Yes, Theriot's 3 interrupted me before I got to Cady! She is definitely a bright spot. And Hooper snuck up on me last night, ending with 20+ points. She seemed to kind of get on a roll when MSU let their guard down a bit. What is the deal with the recruiting? We certainly appear to have some top notch players coming in the next few years. But I feel we really missed out on some good ones recently. I would have pushed harder for Bri Craig, and I really think the Kastanak girl that is at Iowa right now was under-rated. I certainly would have taken her over Tvrdy. I feel she's also a better player than Murren, too.

Some strong leadership would help, too.

And just like that we are buried again. This team is truly frustrating.

I've come to the conclusion Theriot needs to carry this team. Hooper gets pushed all over the court and it affects her shot. Sample can't hit the broadside of a barn. Brandy and T do some good things but aren't consistent enough. Just saw Theriot nail a 3 - that's what I'm talking about!!!

When I have watched Jess play I think of Kelsey Griffin in her final year. Can grab a rebound and go coast to coast, high confidence level, and a good skill level to match. Her ball handling skills are solid and she is comfortable enough she can reach up to adjust her head band while she has someone hounding her. She uses her frame very well and isn't afraid of contact. Not used to seeing that in a girl her age.

Wow, thought LNE would give Fremont a better game. Some other players stepped up for Fremont today. Jess makes it look easy.

I noticed Riley removed the hand wrap late in the game. The freshman point guard for LSE, Karsin Underwood, was having a good game for them. Riley is a very good player so I'm wondering what the hand issue is that is slowing her down. I would say without Jess they are in the bottom half of the HAC, above only Lincoln High and North Star. I'm not even sure who was injured for LSE because it happened while I was in the hallway. I would expect LNE to give Fremont a good game and beat them tomorrow. LNE has a good team but seem to get sloppy once they are up by 10 points. They should have beaten LSW by at least 20 but they made some really dumb turnovers in the second half. It will be interesting to see the class A state tourney this year. Out of the HAC I would think LNE and Fremont should be there. MW and O Benson and ONW, possibly both Bellevue teams. And SSC.

I went to that game. It was much closer than I expected, especially considering LSE lost to lowly Lincoln East the week before Christmas. Riley Cascio Jensen had her shooting hand bandaged up so she wasn't as much of a scoring threat as she has been in the past. Without Shepard, Fremont would still be a cellar dweller, but Jess is just so dominant she can single-handedly take over when needed, and she always looks like she is thoroughly enjoying herself.

I heard it was due to lack of playing time and just wanting to get on with life.

With Katie gone, do we take another recruit for next year?

They probably won't need her for the game against North Star as that team is really young. However, the new North Star coach is Maddie Simon's club coach, so give them a few years and they will be fine. I have a feeling if Jess could find a way to graduate a year and a half early, she could play a lot for the Huskers this January! Wouldn't that be nice?

The other thing with Simon is that she didn't start focusing on basketball until fairly recently. She is also an excellent soccer player and could have gone that route, too. And she is a very good track and field athlete - I'm sure she could receive scholarship offers (and probably has) in that sport as well. She is still developing as a basketball player, and her overall athleticism will help that.

What has happened that has caused Tvrdy to be last off the bench? Sorry, haven't seen them play in person yet. Has she slipped behind everyone else?

Couldn't help myself. Went to the Hawkeye website and looked at their stats through 10 games. Kastanek comes off the bench for 12.5 minutes per game averaging 4.7 points and 1.6 rebounds. She has had 12 assists, 11 turnovers, and seven steals while committing 16 fouls.

Nope, but I believe Fremont plays Papillion LaVista Saturday afternoon at Lincoln East High School, so I may try to get over there and watch. Also keep an eye on Ryley Cascio-Jensen, who transferred from Bellevue East after her father took a job at Fremont schools.

Why was Murren playing instead of Tvrdy? Was she injured?

The only reason I can think of is to better position the feet for the shot. But I know of other clubs that teach kids to catch the pass so when they land, their feet are already in position and they can immediately go into their shot.
