  1. https://journalstar.com/sports/huskers/womens-basketball/quite-amazing-nebraska-teammates-bullish-on-britt-prince-as-she-adjusts-to-college-game/article_a2ac7238-bb5c-502b-aca7-dc0db8a95af6.html Nice article in the morning paper - mostly about 5*BP but comments on/from other players as well. To me, the most welcoming and heart warming comment was about Weidner being 100% and feeling her old self after her 2nd knee surgery. Having her back as she was moments before she took that dive into the camera crew could be as important for this season as the addition of BP. There are some unknowns as the season approaches: Will Hargrove be able to apply the skills and physicality she showed as a small town HS super star to playing at the D1 level? Does Petrie continue to show the progress she demonstrated from start to finish last season? Can Bozan contribute valuable minutes to reduce the load on Markowski and Petrie? What will Rimdal add? Did we really need another big either from recruiting or from the portal? Other questions intentionally left out leaving room for comments from others. Amy definitely has enough players and therefore enough depth. This statement might be a stretch, but this team as a whole might be more complete than any since the one that reeled of 20+ consecutive wins and achieved a #1 ranking. Not saying that such is within reach this year - not saying that at all - but just that this might be the best team since then. Of course they play in the midst of superior competition to the teams from 10-20 years ago. Let's go see!
  2. Nice surprise - coming as it does at the last minute of recruiting. She is enough for this season. But with AM in her last year, we need another one in the next recruiting class - or portal. (yeah, I always want more).
  3. i want to know too. I have looked but can't seem to find it on my own. Help please.
  4. I don't know how long star ratings have been a thing in WBB, but i doubt that UNL WBB has ever had two five stars on the same team. Now of course those two are gonna need some four star front court players to pass the ball to, but two perimeter shooters like Prince and Hamlin, other teams are gonna have to come further away from the hoop to defend.
  5. Just watched her video. She is FAST !!!! I mean REALLY FAST !!! And shifty. I know it's just HS ball and the level of competition is unknown, but her ability to dribble to the basket while making that super slick 30 to 45 degree cut in direction is super impressive! It's the kind of speed and cut that leaves a defender wondering "where'd she go?" Seems adept at the pull up three. She and Prince could be a dual threat back court. Good get!
  6. i am perplexed by this. Of course WBB doesn't get the almost every day coverage that FB gets, but we see stories about baseball, mens basketball, softball, volleyball, track, and even bowling. Meanwhile, WBB - crickets. It's a small and mute black cat in a huge unlit bldg at midnight. Just try to find it!. It is as tho the AD publicity dept has forgotten that there is such a thing as WBB. Visibility is good and WBB doesn't have it. No attempt to drum up, or even re-awaken, interest.
  7. so as for getting help from the portal, do you think that Amy is just happy enough with her existing roster and doesn't want/need any help .... or that she has tried and is trying and has made offers, but just hasn't had any success?
  8. thank you, Papa. Until seeing those hi-lines just now my memory of good she was had actually gone a bit stale. Now I am hyped again
  9. Bugs: There is a lot of complaining (and a little bit of praise) on here about the refs. Apart from the criticism and discontent, what would you suggest be done about it? I mean if it is hopeless, then I guess we just have to live with it and there is little point in whining. In your view is there anything that can be done to make them better? And if so, what would it be? Are there ANY refs out there who, in your opinion do a good job?
  10. that is way too harsh. She is no dunce and of course she has a plan - she is not just napping all spring. That the plan seems not to be producing doesn't mean she doesn't have a plan and isn't trying. As for giving a new contract ... hard to do that to a coach who had a winning season, made the tourney, beat the NCAA runner up, took that team to the brink of a second victory, and has a really good incoming class. After next season, we do lose three (Moriarty, Coley, and Markowski) plus the transfer. For the upcoming season, I think we are fine except for being at risk in the big girl dept. But losing three and adding none in the next class portends an upcoming nose dive. I cross my fingers that something will happen at Creighton and the twins will have a change of heart. I struggle to understand why UNL is not attractive to a quality big - either a soon to be HS senior or someone in the portal. I mean if they look at last year's successes (including one victory and one very near miss over a NC finalist) and the fact that all positions other than a big are "there" ... just seems like somebody would say "I think i can fill the missing piece and have a fun and successful season there"
  11. If no one more comes our way then I fear that the conference in general (and several of the teams) got better and we didn't. Yes, two of the frosh are great acquisitions, but they are after all frosh and their best contributions are probly down the road a piece. Wish we had acquired a player with more experience and maturity. I am disappointed.
  12. but the rule pertains to ... "anyone who disrespectfully contacts an official or makes a threat of physical intimidation or harm to include pushing, shoving, spitting, or attempting to make physical contact with an official." Yes, I have shaken my head a few times when noticing that an official put hands on a player. But I have never seen it as an act of threat or intimidation or disrespect.
  13. is one game enough? I don't think so. I think there should be a THREE game suspension for a second offense
  14. it would be somewhat similar to our losing Potts - which was rumored but thank goodness didn't happen.
  15. anyone here remember if the text messages that AS alleged CL sent her were said to have been on Snap vs some other texting app? I wonder if they are recoverable. whoops. instead of expecting others to look it up, I did so myself. The allegations was that the coach's texts were sent on SnapChat - where messages are said to disappear after they are read.
  16. and not just for depth and toughness but someone with more than one year of eligibility to get us ready for next year when AM will be gone.
  17. sorry to see that she has only one year of eligibility left, but her experience should help stabilize the position in the short term
  18. what is going on at OSU? Is there any known or reasonably plausible reason for all these players moving on?
  19. YES! I made that point a while back but neglected to include it tonight. If she comes along as quickly as Potts and Nissley, she is another asset. Seems like a long wait till November.
  20. IMO, the Huskers did not play as badly as the score late in the 4th quarter might make it seem. Defense played well enough to win. There are always lots of factors, but the three that I think stand out are 3) shooting overall, three pt shooting in particular, and 3) blocked shots. 1) yes, the fade aways have seldom worked and AM could have passed off instead of taking some of the desperation shots, but a lot of quality open look shots didn't go. 2) if three of the misses had gone thru, it's an even game. 3) Some of the blocked shots looked like sure scores ... right up until the block. The game has become SO physical and the physicality is so inconsistently ignored vs foul called .. so much that teams have to have some players who want to be bangers and to have the mass to back it up - and really we don't. Had Mendelson been in the lane today - or against A&M - she would have been a bowling pin. Loved having Jazz. Just loved it. Too bad her last two games lacked the sparkle that she had become known for. I think that, personnel wise, the Huskers will be marginally better next year* and markedly better if Amy can add a banger with some heft and/or a long fast slasher. * losing Shelly, Krull, and White while adding Weidner, Prince, and Williams and a year of development for Hake, Potts, and Nissley will be a net gain. Maybe there will be more emphasis on adding dribble penetration to the offense and cutting down a bit on reliance on the three.
  21. Is there any way fans can ask announcers to please please please .... TELL US WHO THE FOUL IS ON! A few times late in the game they did, but several times it was "looks like that one is going to go against Nebraska". Yeah, thanks, we could that from the direction all players are going .... but it's on WHO?
  22. yes they are! We need one!
  23. Loved having JS here for all three years. She has done so much for this team. Sad to say tho, that I think this was her poorest game at UNL. Hope for bounce back on Sunday
  24. spring break among Big 10 schools varies greatly. Some start as soon as 2/24 and some as late as 3/23. Same with the schedule of final exams.
