Head Coach: Kevin Willard (3rd year)
Location: College Park, MD
Conference: B1G 10
Nickname: Terrapins, Terps
Mascots: Testudo

Line: Maryland by 8.5

Typical Rotation Depth: 9

KenPom rank: 24

Nota bene:

  • Nebraska is 1-7 all-time on the road vs Maryland. That one win was also the only other time the game started at 11 am CST as Tim Miles famously/desperately rolled out a 1-3-1 zone to overcome a 12 point deficit with 5 minutes to go on New Year's day.
  • Nebraska was last at Maryland almost a year to the date, Jan 26, 2024
  • Maryland played KenPom's 364th hardest non-con schedule, dead last

Player to watch: Derik Queen

The 6'10" 246# freshman has been as good as advertised, leading the team in scoring while second on the team in rebounding.

Player to watch: Ja'Kobi Gillespie

The Belmont PG has slotted in well at Maryland, shooting 41.8% from 3

The Skinny:

Nebraska is officially in a funk after dropping their third straight game and their first home game since 2023. Things don't get any easier today against a Maryland team that has defended their home court well.

Don't expect Nebraska to change out the scheme against this dominant Maryland front court. The Terps have a couple of guys who can hit from 3 so we'll see how closeouts look. Defense has been Kevin Willard's calling card and Maryland has been good this season, forcing teams to settle for long range shots.

The Huskers could play near perfect and still lose this one. Expect to be looking for more answers this week.

Prediction: Maryland 84 - Nebraska 71
