  1. I'm from Alliance and watched Peltz play his career here. It's so different watching him play today versus when he played here. As the article stated, he was the leading scorer in class B for 2 years. At NU he doesn't even act like he wants to take a shot. In high school he was thought to be kind of a ball hog and would shoot all the time. I know we don't want him shooting a lot at NU but he needs to take a few more shots just to keep the opposition honest. His parents have said that at the JR. College, the coach told him not to shoot or he would sit. His job was to distribute. Apparently that has sunk in. I wonder if Miles has told him to not shoot or create his own shot? And for what it's worth, he was an above average shooter.
  2. Good thing the big 3 showed up today. I don't know why Cady is inconsistent in showing up every game. We have to have her play big each and every game. Got to give props to Laudermille today. She didn't score a lot but played one of her better games. I thought Theriot even played one of her better games so far. Is Mauer's back problem the main reason she isn't playing?
  3. It was torture watching the game tonight on ESPN3. I don't think I can ever look at a Heineken or McDOnalds chicken McNugget again without wanting to gag. They must of played only those 2 ads for 20+ times. I could see how you could torture a spy by making them continously watch an ad over and over and over.
  4. This game was exactly like the South Dakota St. game. Terrible terrible defense and our offense didn't look much better. The only main difference between last year's team is Kaitlyn Burke is gone and Theriot is starting. Now I'm not saying Theriot is the entire problem but somehow our chemistry isn't there this year. We are shooting horrible this year, especially from 3 point land. Moore is great at 13-26 50% but the rest of the team is poor. Hooper is 28%, Laudermille 3-18 13%, Theriot 2-13 15%, Murren 6-21 28%, Jeffrey 2-15 13%, Cady 2-15 13% (and she seems to not even come close with all her air balls). We have absolutely no inside game (thanks to Yori's recruiting) and won['t win many games if we continue to shoot so poorly. Sadly, you can't coach a kid to be a better shooter from 3 point land. Theriot needs to learn to take the shot when she's open and quit making the ill advised hard passes. Yes a few times she'll make a great pass but there are far more bad ones than good ones. She leads the team with 24 turnovers with 22 min. of playing time. Next closest is 17 TO's by Moore who plays 30 min. Theriot needs to learn to drive to the basket and score or get fouled. All it looks like she's thinking is how or where she can make a pass. I haven't given up on her but I have to say I was expecting a little more out of her after reading her high school profile and listening to Yori. And I know she's only a freshman. She can only improve. Sample had a great night. She needs to continue going to the basket. I wish she could hit a 3 once in a while so they don't just sag way in when she has the ball on the arc. Murren had an earlier game where she hit several 3's and I thought maybe we had a shooter but that seems so long ago and was a fluke night it appears. I don't know what's up with Mauer? Is her back still bad and that's why is so ineffective when she plays? I've always been a huge women's fan from the beginning and will no matter what. But I got to tell you, I think this will be the last time we're a top 25 team this year. Heck, unless Yori does a lot better job of recruiting we won't see a rated women's bb team for a long time. Sorry for the negative rant but I had high hopes for this team this year and it doesn't look like it's going to happen.
  5. I think it's going to be a loooonnnnggg year. After Moore and Hooper there just isn't much in the way of offense. I got to think that Yori's poor recruiting in the last couple of years is reallly going to bite us, starting next year. It would of seemed that with her National Coach of the Year award, brand new facilites and being a top 25 team recently would of produced a lot better recruits than we have now. I haven't totally given up on her, but she needs to step it up or we'll go back to the middle of the pack or lower.
  6. What a great win!!!
  7. I totally agree with you, especially that Connie couldn't recruit one true post player for this year which we sorely need. Heck, we've needed a true post up big player ever since Kelcy Griffin left. She hasn't recruited even one post that was an offensive threat around the basket. With us being a top 25 program and especially right after the season Griffin and company had, I find it hard to believe that Connie couldn't get one better than average big kid. And to think that she has some of the greatest facilities in the country. That being said, I am excited that she has the 6'5" kid coming in next year (can't remember her name right now).
  8. I thought we looked like we took sleeping pills before the game. Wow did we get outhustled all the time, and I mean everyone. Apparently we thought we could just show up and SDS would give us the game. If we're going to win this year we have to have people besides Moore and Hooper scoring. Emily Cady especially needs to step it up. 4 points in 28 minutes just isn't going to cut it. And Hailey Sample seemed to revert back to last year with 3 points in 24 minutes. Our defense was horrible. I've never seen so many uncontested layups. Not sure what was going on but I hope this game was a wakeup call.
  9. Sadie Murren is going to be a real asset for this team if she can continue hitting the 3's. I admit I didn't really know much about her nor did I expect her to come in and play this well. She's going to really help out when they zone us. I would like to see Theriot shoot when she has the shot and not always think she has to make a pass. Moore makes a lot of great passes but knows to shoot when she's wide open. Theriot should learn from her.
  10. Only time will tell how these 3 young ladies pan out. I am mostly excited about Allie Havers. Most of all I like 6'5" and sounds like she can move. I read where she plays shortstop on her softball team. Usually the tall person plays first base. A shortstop has to be able to move fast. Anyway, good gets for Connie Yoir.
  11. This was a nice win but we are not going to win a lot of games shooting 23-71 (32%), 3 pt. 7-29 (24%) and 11-19 (57%). Good thing our defense played great. Defense is one thing you shouldn't have off nights like you can on offense. Hallie Sample has really stepped up her game.
  12. I hope you're right Bugeater. Since she only took 3 shots it's hard to say. I remember when Moore was a freshman and she almost never shot because she didn't need to with all the offensive weapons we had. We don't have the offensive weapons as we did then so I think she's going to have to give us some offense.
  13. After watching my first game on huskernside this year, here's my initial thoughts. First of all, we need everyone to stay healthy, especially Moore and Hooper. We are not a good shooting team from beyond the arc. 5 for 26 tonight and many of those shots we didn't even come close to hitting the rim. I was hoping that miraculously everyone would improve from last year. Hooper is Hooper. Some nights she'd on and other nights like tonight she's way off. If's she's on, we have a good chance of winning. Thankfully she does so much more besides scoring. I don't know what we'll do next year when Moore graduates. We don't have any guards that can create a good shot (and get fouled) like her. If she goes down this year, we are in trouble. Cady didn't have a big night but I'm sure she'll be okay down the road. I thought Sample played a lot better. I liked to see her be more aggressive on the offensive end. Jeffrey and Laudermill seemed about the same as last year. You never know if they are going to do something good or not so good. I still get a little nervous when Laudermill gets her hand on the ball. Tries to force things a little too much with mixed results.I think Williams will give us solid minutes like she did last year. It's too early to comment much on Theriot. Hasn't practiced much and I'm not sure what Yori wants from her yet. She had 5 tournovers with bad passes. She really didn't look to score. I'm hoping she can create some offense this year, and don't always look to pass off. Take the shot when she's open. Murren played ok tonight. Mauer to me plays like she wants to be a shooting forward instead of post player. I was hoping she would learn some post moves and be effective around the basket. Simon is probably not going to get much playing time again this year. So like last year, we are going to have to play great defense all the time and hope it creates some easy baskets. I hope our shooting will keep improving.
  14. Having seen all the other players, I'm curious to see what Theriot brings to the table. I'm hoping she's well rounded on both offense and defense because we're gong to need it to be successful this year.
  15. This could be a pretty good season if everyone is healthy. However with the injury bug on several key players it could get ugly.
