Bugeaters1 Posted February 15, 2014 Report Posted February 15, 2014 If the big 10 tourney were to start today, with having Nebraska and MSU being tied for second how would the tie breaker work out and who gets the second seed. Quote
cyinne Posted February 15, 2014 Report Posted February 15, 2014 Per Big 10 website: IV. In case of a tie for any place finish in the regular-season standings, the following tie-breaking procedure shall be followed in order to seed teams in the tournament bracket: A. Two-team tie: 1. Results of head-to-head competition during the regular-season. {EACH TEAM WON ONCE} 2. Each team's record vs. the team occupying the highest position in the final regular-season standings (or in the case of a tie for the championship, the next highest position in the regular-season standings), continuing down through the standings until one team gains an advantage. {MSU LOST TO PENN STATE IN ONLY MEETING- WE HAVENT PLAYED PENN STATE YET..... WE WOULD WIN TIE BREAKER ON THIS STIPULATION IF WE BEAT PSU} a. When arriving at another pair of tied teams while comparing records, use each team's record against the collective tied teams as a group (prior to their own tie-breaking procedures), rather than the performance against the individual tied teams. b. When comparing records against a single team or a group of teams, the higher winning percentage shall prevail, even if the number of games played against the team or group are unequal (i.e., 2-0 is better than 3-1, but 2-0 is not better than 1-0). 3. Won-loss percentage of all Division I opponents. 4. Coin toss conducted by the Commissioner or designee. Bugeaters1 1 Quote
Bugeaters1 Posted February 15, 2014 Author Report Posted February 15, 2014 Thanks Cyinne, I should have looked there I see that the win percentage between MSU and the Huskers and see how the Huskers had split wasn't sure where the tie breaking issue began. Quote
cyinne Posted February 15, 2014 Report Posted February 15, 2014 It is also worth noting that if we win out and Penn State wins all remaining games except our game we will win tiebreaker for league title since we beat PSU head to head. Could also add Michigan State to that if they would win out too. If there is a 3 way tie for league title (NU, PSU, MSU) we would still win the tiebreaker because of best winning percentage amongst the three tied teams. We would be 2-1, PSU would be 1-1, and MSU would be 1-2. Quote
