OFFENSE: A Eighty points on 44% shooting from the field and 37 of 48 on free throws. Five Huskers in double figures led by Terran Petteway with 26 (14/19 FT). The offense looked sharp, players were making good cuts and a number of good passes to get buckets or draw fouls. Huskers never trailed. Couldn't give the A+ because of the 08:38 - 2:42 first half drought from the field. Game wasn't close for long after that, but that lull kept PSU around longer than necessary. DEFENSE: A+ Huskers were working hard on defense all game long. There were a few blown assignments, but Big Red was scrapping and challenging even late when the lead was secure. PSU had a ton of shots and missed a lot (35% shooting) due to the Husker's intensity and on-ball effort. The two big threats for PSU, Newbill and Frazier were a combined 11/33. The Huskers were blocking shots and harassing the Lions. Rivers and Parker add to this team with their defensive effort and accomplishments. Team defense all around. REBOUNDING: C+ Seemed like it should have been a better grade with the effort the Huskers were putting forth, but with only a 39-37 tally and with PSU getting 16 offensive boards, the second chance opportunities would have put the Huskers in danger if the Nittany Lions could have converted their shots. Rebounding by committee with Smith, Rivers, and Pitchford all pulling down 6 and Webster adding 5 BALL HANDLING: C Tai Webster is coming on. Strong game for the freshman with 3 assists and 1 turnover, but a number of other passes that should have been assists but wound up as foul shots instead. The rest of the crew needs to grab ahold. 13 NU turnovers to 6 for PSU was disappointing and there were a ton of fumbles that, even if we recovered, took us out of good scoring opportunities. COACHING: A++ Huskers came out strong, stayed strong, and finished strong. With the eyes of Huskerland and national attention on their momentum, it would have been a typical Husker Hoops night to struggle and maybe even lose this game, especially with the nit-picking negatives (rebound margin, drought, and and turnovers) but I can be picky because Coach Miles got a superb effort from this team against an opponent they might have overlooked. PSU is not a powerhouse, but they have been a much stronger team this year and had some buzz coming in, but while the Lions were crying and giving us technical free throws, the Huskers executed. The second plus is for the right side of the bench for the PSU dive, way to take a charge coaches! See, Miles has everyone thinking strong D! OVERALL GRADE: A Mission accomplished, no letdown after the MSU win. Controlled game throughout. Rattled PSU into misses, technicals and turnovers. Another All-B1G night for Terran Petteway. I know individual honors are secondary, but having an all-conference player and POY candidate is huge for our brand. On pins and needles about the Pitchford injury. Heal quick Walter, we need you! Go Big Red!!!
