Row6Seat10 Posted April 24, 2013 Report Posted April 24, 2013 In the what could have been catagory I know some along with myself were actually hoping last year when Husker volleyball player Shelby Winklemann announced that she wanted to concentrate on starting a college basketball career instead of playing volleyball that it would be with the Huskers. If you remember Yori offered her a scholarship and she pondered the idea of playing with the Huskers but in the end picked Division II Central Missouri over the Huskers as it's where she grew up. I heard prior to leaving for CMU she averaged 35-40 points a game when she played on a co-ed intramural basketball team after volleyball was done in a league at Mable Lee. Anyway, for some reason I thought about this this afternoon so I looked up to see just how she performed for Central Missouri this past season. Shelby only got to play 8 games for CMU because she suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in her left knee in early January. Her stats for those 8 games she did play though were off the chart. She started each game and averaged nearly 18 points per game and almost 6 rebounds. She was named conference player of the week after she poured in 42 points against Emporia St and pulled down 11 boards which incidentally was the game right before she injured her knee. In those 8 games she played though she shot a mind boggling 60% from the field. 70% from behind the arc playing around 25 minutes each game. She probably would have been fun to watch with the Huskers but you win some you lose some. Hopefully she fully recovers from her torn acl and can get back on the court for CMU. HB 1 Quote
