  1. This may have been the only game I get to see live, and I noticed a couple things that the radio and TV don't show. This team is crazy slow off the ball. This can be fixed, but the hustle isn't there. The set offense is a well oiled machine. Despite a lack of real speed, double screens and fakes are really good. T' is a really fun on ball defender. I love watching her frustrate a dribbler.
  2. Another scoring win despite troubles from beyond the arc. Glad to see that scoring is still coming from other places, but I hope these poor perimeter numbers aren't the new norm.
  3. Great to have a strong showing against a good team, regardless of their injuries. That said, I think the better takeaway is that despite a poor showing from beyond the arc, the offense rolled. Last year, the ladies lived and died by the three for much of the season, (happily, a lot more living than dying) so it's nice to see that not be the case from day one here. I didn't see the game, but from what the radio guys were saying, it sounds like T is continuing to be a great source of energy off the bench. That's another great sign, and I hope she continues to love being a leader despite not being a starter.
  4. There seemed to be a lot of moments when OSU's bigs could have just taken it to the hoop without issue, and instead they flipped it outside to avoid making an effort. And they didn't really seem to want to get in position on rebounds. Just seemed like a lazy game from the Buckeye perspective. Great game from the less celebrated Husker players though. In the first half especially scoring was distributed throughout the offense. Even Katy Simon made some plays.
  5. Here are my thoughts on the game: http://huskerhoopthoughts.wordpress.com/2013/02/14/game-preview-huskers-v-buckeyes/ Obviously success shooting threes will be important. I also think OSU might take it to the Huskers inside, as they've got a pretty big size advantage. The battle of the winning streaks should be an interesting one.
  6. Shooting percentage will be a big factor in tonight’s contest. The Buckeyes rank 1st in the Big Ten at 46.1% shooting from the field. If they are able to get hot early at home, it could be a tough night for the Huskers, who rank 11th in shooting defense at 39.7%. If Nebraska can’t force tough shots from Ohio State, the sharp shooting Buckeyes will have a strong scoring night.
  7. I have to agree. I think this is a symptom of Hooper's increased notoriety this season. She's getting defended more consciously this season, which has led to her having fewer shot opportunities. I think when she gets them, she wants to make sure she gets a clean shot off, which causes her to rush them. This rushing has been pretty wide spread at times, with the swinging of the new offense not always delivering open looks.
  8. I've been impressed throughout the game with the play from Cady and Theriot. Cady really stepped up in the first half when Hooper wasn't getting great looks, and Theriot has been lights out in the absence of a good scoring night from Moore. Even bench players like Laudermill and Simon have had great moments. Great showing overall so far.
  9. While the defense on the drives wasn't great, the defense did force plenty of turnovers and made sure to protect the perimeter enough to keep the lead. On a night when you're shooting lights out from beyond the arc, that's all it takes to get the win. More importantly, the Huskers showed they could shut down a strong player and help force foul trouble, which is evident when you look at Morgan Paige's night. This type of effort and ability to key in on a good player will be important later in the year.
