I looks bad now but I think we will play out to be a decent three point shooting team over time. Kavas and Green I think are good shooters who need to get comfortable here in this offense. Cross and Curtis (who I think is our best 3pt shooter) will develop into plus shooters from 3 and Cam will probably always be a streaky low 30% guy. Burke / HC look to be decent mid 30s shooters as well. So not great but better than we are used to for sure

now the free throws baffle me and have no clue how we are that bad

Cam being over the top when things are going well isn't a problem...it's when he's over the top when things aren't going well that's an issue for this team with adversity problems. It's like hey man, no shit you just had a bad play and now you're acting like you were caught murdering a puppy...how many more bad plays in a row would you like that to lead to?

I made this tweet that I don't consider an anti-Cam tweet at all.

Someone made an obvious Cam Mack "stan" account to sort of chew me out and 3 other people at like 6 am Saturday morning before deleting the tweets. Our point guard seems to be a dramatic person surrounded by people that feed that. This isn't necessarily a good nor bad thing.

I appreciate the passion, i do.  Will he be able to channel it to make this team better when things are tough?

This is the reason why I truly feel they need to get rid of the "verbal". commitment altogether.

Especially for any player before his or her senior season.

We are talking about 16, 17 or 18 year old kids who really aren't ready to make that long of a time commitment at this time in their lives.

Just sign them on the day and everybody wouldn't lose their minds so much.

Would kill a bunch of " experts" careers though.

I'm actually at his pro day as we speak just watched popovich walk right past me.
    Wasnt pop actually.
I'm not sure who that guy was it did look similar too him.
And the guy got out with a whole damn spurs entourage lol also saw that same guy pull Isaiah off to the side real quick as the players all walked through and shook hands saw Riley do the same to the kid from belmont lol.
There was waaaay to much to watch what was going on everywhere. The execs nearest too where we sat were the spurs mavs knicks nets grizzlies 6ers and golden state I tried to watch those guys mostly.
All in all just a big practice with a helluva lot of talent.
It got pretty physical at times as well in the 3 on 3 drills. I'll share a link this weekend my friend that I went with used too train Isaiah in high school and said he would put one out for Robys pro day this weekend.

gobigredbrah reacted to throwback in Miles is retained what does the team look like
Exactly. You never retain a coach based on what a roster may or may not look like the following year, especially in modern college athletics, where players transfer just as often as they stay.

The coach being retained or fired should be based entirely on results up to that date.

It's better to rip the Band-Aid® off and start anew than try to project what the team may look like if he stays ... because by the time the transfer dust settles, you may be starting anew anyway, even if the coach is retained.

(The Band-Aid® brand approves this message.)

I just don't think he's good enough and won't be good enough. I'm not sure he has the work ethic to improve ENOUGH to play at a Power 5 level. He's not the greatest teammate and seems to have a bit of a me first attitude ... that isn't fair to say I guess ... I should say he seems to allow his fear to get in the way of competing at the highest level he could. He tends to get in foul trouble because he tries to block EVERYTHING. And he has received a lot of technical fouls, often at inopportune times. It's almost like he takes himself out of games because he fears his best isn't good enough.

His post up game is a bit non-existent. He tends to roam around the floor a bit too much for someone his size, but that may be because he was trying to prove he has range to recruiters. I just don't see any level of dominance at his level of play currently, especially on offense. Don't get me wrong, I can see all the potential. He can get up and down the floor well for his size and has great length and height and there's a lot of room for improvement ... which are all good things.

His lack of weight has led him to be a bit passive on offense and he really laid an egg last year in the state tourney. He looked disengaged from the game and a bit scared of the moment. The team seemed to play better when he was off the floor during that state game. I hope I'm wrong if he ends up coming here, but it seems like a bad choice to offer him imho.

Maybe he's really improved since I saw him during the year? Word is he held one of the top big man recruits in Vegas to a reasonable number of points and that's what helped lead to getting more offers of late.

Basically Creighton isn't sure they have space for him next year as of right now, so they want him to go to a Prep School or the like. Let's see how he responds to that because Creighton is his school of choice all things being equal. He's a bright kid, so academics aren't going to be an issue.

gobigredbrah reacted to Norm Peterson in 2017 SG - Thorir Thorbjarnarson - LOI
Watched the first half (skipping the parts where Thor wasn't in the game) of the FIBA European U20 Champs earlier this summer where Iceland played the Germans.  Several observations:

    1.  Some people were concerned about the level of competition he was playing.  These German dudes are good with guys like Mo Wagner from Michigan and a guy who played at St. John's before becoming a Euro pros and some other German pros who could have probably played D1 in the U.S.
    2.  The offense they're running on the U20 team featured a 7 footer who was the primary target of their half-court offensive sets.  Thor is basically playing with the older kids here and he's no longer the focus of the offense.  The way he's being utilized might explain his bad 3-pt shooting numbers in this particular tournament.
    3.  I still see him pushing the ball in transition and he still was running the floor very fast.  He also drives with his right hand and was attacking the rim, so fear not that he can only use his left hand.
    4.  Defense needs work.  But then, this was a national team playing in a tournament at a level above where he's used to playing, and so he's not playing with the guys he's used to playing with nor playing a role he's used to playing.  That probably has an effect.
    5.  I think he'll make the transition to D1 and I think he's worthy of a Power 5 conference scholarship. Not saying he's a lottery pick or that he'll be in the starting lineup the moment he reaches campus.  I'm just saying he looks to be the part of a D1 scholarship recruit.  I don't think he's the reach that some on here might fear.

I think it's more of a postmodernism thing, in which one's own worldview preempts any standard "moral" worldview of any particular institution, tradition or authority.

In practical terms, it looks like: Why shouldn't I look out for me? You're going to look out for you, and the most powerful among us always look out for themselves without fail. If (insert celebrity/politician/sports star here) gets his or her own way by always being tactical and always looking for the better deal - and is celebrated for doing so - why shouldn't I try to get mine? Isn't that just being a good consumer?

For parents, it's: Hey, I want my kid to succeed, and yeah, you say success looks like him being a good teammate, but it doesn't get him any headlines, or the special treatment, so why shouldn't we look for a situation where he gets that? Why shouldn't he get to play whatever he wants and get whatever he wants? You would if you could.

To be clear: I reject this worldview for faith reasons. But I see it, and I empathize with it. The people at the top seem to get whatever they want however they want it, selflessness is on the wane, and a natural question tends to be: If they won't, why should I? If everybody's out for themselves, what do I gain by being in it for others?

I think there are good answers to that question, of course, but I'm not sure they're answers that a postmodern America - especially in sports - want to hear.

Facing these issues head on and discussing them/allowing discourse is a lot braver than avoiding them altogether.  There are plenty of marginalized groups in this country--particularly black people--who have every right not to salute oppression.

Coach Pop is the greatest basketball coach of all time, in my opinion.  One of the reasons why is because he's extremely honest and he empowers/challenges his players intellectually.  Here's his response:

Oklahoma really learned their lesson when they retracted their offer to Hammond. I don't know if they will ever recover.
That said, I think it would have been best for both parties if Arop had taken the prep school offer.

I got a chance to see how some of the kids looked this weekend. Bratton and Isaiah Poor Bear Chandler looked like they've made the biggest jump in the offseason. Bratton was trying to expand his range last winter, but still had some room to go. He was hitting some turnarounds from 15+ over the weekend and showing some ball skills. And he's still the most physically ready guy of the 2017 guys, imo. Looks like he's 30, kind of like Shawn Kemp used to in college. He's still at the that tween size, though, not quite big enough to play 4 at a high level, not quite quick enough to play 3. Definitely a Summit level guy at this point, with a chance to move up if he can hit 3s regularly. I wouldn't be shocked a higher level program took a chance on him.

Chandler is impressive. He's strong and he can jump, has pretty good skills around the basket. UNO's offered, and he would be my top candidate for "kid who does well with the Mavs, sparking message board chatter about why we didn't offer him." As with Bratton, I wouldn't be shocked if he got high offers at some point. He physically reminds me of the big guys that team like Georgetown and Pitt like to put at the 4. Definitely could play some center, too. I don't know a lot about him personally, other than there used to be questions about him asserting himself. He's doing that now.

Regarding the debate about Aguek's offensive abilities, I don't think they matter as far as playing time for freshman year. They're good enough. He has the ability to be a big-time defensive player. His hands and feet are so quick, and he's so strong that he'll play. The only guy who gave him any problems over the weekend was Marques Wilson, the Oklahoma kid who plays with the local kids.

Chang's a funny kid, great personality. He's playing some with Aguek's team this summer, but he doesn't try to take over. But there are moments when you see things that nobody else does, and it's easy to figure out the high-level interest. Even if you guard him successfully with your feet, he can get off the floor so quickly, and his arms are so long that he always seem to have an open shot.

So fwiw, I'd watch Bratton and Chandler play in the top tourneys this summer and make a decision after that. I'm not so sure I wouldn't offer Wilson right now, although homestate OU and OSU haven't so what do I know? Here's a recent video:

Pretty entertaining to see so many good local kids in the gym at the same time this weekend. Might have been a dozen D-1s between the 2017 and 2018 classes.
