CJ needs to find a spark. He looks like a deer in headlights. Passing up open 3's to dribble into traffic and miss a contested shot or turn the ball over ain't cutting it right now. Have Lawerence start in his place and let CJ come off the bench. Just frustrating watching the young man continue to struggle every game.

Hoh boy is this team fun. Lotta fight in them and the tend to play down to opponents. Maybe we're just this bad! Who knows. What is certain is that they're giving us entertainment value to make up for being bad this year. Probably a lot of B1G losses in our future this spring but I'm sticking with them every game I'm going to, and I'm excited to watch these guys get better under hoiberg. Damn this is a crazy life we live as nebrasketball fans. Not putting an expiry date or "get gud" by date on the Hoiskers. I'm in for the long haul! Boy the college kids sure do like to scare us and play like crap sometimes but that's one reason we watch for this kind of craziness. #novembermadness

I mentioned in the HHCC thread that I have very low expectations for this season.  So, it won't take much for me to be happy with what I see. Some reasons to be a little chill about last night's debacle:

Hoiberg built an entire roster from scratch in a roughly 30-day stretch ... in the spring ... when things were pretty well picked-over These guys have never played together before They don't ideally have the types of skillsets HCFH would recruit if he had more time to build a team So you had to figure there would be bumps in the road
We start a 17-year-old center who is younger than half of the high school seniors playing basketball in this country right now We have three true-freshmen in our regular rotation all of whom played in their first official college games last night Our starting PG is a only a sophomore, and a juco to boot, and it generally takes jucos at least a semester to adjust We only have two seniors on the entire roster
So, we're young, inexperienced, and undersized this season. What were you expecting?

I was wondering the same thing.  I checked out one of the Michigan fan boards linked from the thread on this board.  I'm guessing 95% of posters were all in on Howard.  Not surprising, that's the same percentage of the people who have to use the "F" word in their posts.

Culturally, we don't fit in the B1G, especially the East Division.  Don't get me wrong, I don't miss the big12.  The money here is great.  I'm just waiting for the day when we kick these mother f****** rear ends in football AND basketball.  ?

Amen. I'm all about family first -- and him missing a game for his daughter's wedding actually makes me think MORE highly of him. I wouldn't have even minded him missing Friday's game if need be. But you really mean to tell me he couldn't have attended a basketball game on Thursday afternoon and flew out right afterward?

Instead, only showing up to the Rutgers game gives the appearance not of support but of an expected loss, which AGAIN he continues to hammer away at. I work in PR. Last season's statement of a need for consistency, and pointing out the 14-15 season right after one of our winningest seasons in school history, used the language of a poor expected outcome. I said so at the time, and will say so now -- that should be for the fans and media to point out, but not an athletic administration trying to put itself in a position to set a tone of optimism and winning. It was absolute incompetence. It stands out even more when you contrast his behavior and language over the last year to his behavior and language when talking about Ernie Kent -- who by any metric was an absolute failure at Washington State, yet he kept extending him and talking about his accomplishments in glowing terms. Now, we have someone you actually CAN make a case for, and instead the disdain is palpable even to the national media.

I've made it pretty clear I'm no Bill Moos fan. This is why. The man is utterly incompetent when it comes to even giving the impression of leadership, and my criticism extends to those in his communications division putting out this nonsense. No matter what he does now, he has eroded the fanbase's trust with his inconsistent policies and disinterest in this program, and created his own conundrum with his visible lack of support for his current staff. To me, both as a fan and someone who does this for a living, his handling of the basketball program is absolutely inexcusable. It isn't that hard to at least give the impression that you'd prefer to see your team win. (I still recall Sipple writing that someone made a "he better get this back on track" statement in December -- WHO in their right mind would say something like that, at that point, to one of the state's most well-known columnists? I remember thinking at the time that no matter how much I dislike Creighton, you would NEVER hear Rasmussen or his staff say something like that.) Instead, he (and his staff of "communications" buffoons) made themselves absolute laughingstocks and it is mind-boggling to me how poorly they have handled not just this situation, but the entire last 365 days.

I just feel lucky that we have the basketball savant that is Marc Boehm getting to work with and oversee his soon to be 4th basketball coach. He’s done such great work here. Consistent winning. Lots of NCAA Tournament appearances in his 19 years. Continued domination of Creighton. Player after player into the NBA.

Marc also helped oversee the magnificent handling of Connie Yori and ensuring our women’s team lost the one great thing it had over the last 25 years.

Marketing wise, Marc helped lead this program into all of our hearts. Constantly with the hottest basketball gear for sale. For example, I love that we can find the shirt with Herbie spinning a basketball for sale that literally every Husker fan wants. And I love that we’ve had bobble heads for basketball.

    Oh wait, never mind.

I just hope the next coach, whoever it is, works as hard through adversity as Tim Miles does.

The writing has been on the wall for awhile.  It would have been easy to just cash in his chips and phone it in the last few games of the season.

Thomas Allen is out with injury; Nana Akenten chooses to repeatedly violate team rules and you're forced to suspend him; you're down half a dozen players across the season and now you're down to 8 players available, including just three of the original starters and three other guys who weren't even rotation guys.

And yet he's still arguing with the refs in the Iowa game and doing whatever they can to gameplan for Rutgers.

We might get smoked by Maryland today, but it won't be because Miles and the staff quit on the team or on the season.

He has a lot more character than a lot of the guys who are calling for his head.

This is already going to happen anyway just by speaking up cryptically. There's no real value in saying "hey, he's looking for someone really good!" if you're concerned at all about getting "labelled". You walked into that trap by bringing it up. If you actually have a decent rumor, just spill the rumor and run your qualifier up the flagpole. "It was X, and it might not happen, but that's who I hear he's gunning for". If it's X, you look like a genius. If it isn't, hey, you warned everyone. What you've done now is fall into the same pit as half the internet--you look like an attention seeker or troll. Is that really a preferable fate in the labeling department?

But I suppose the silver lining is you did get the attention and you did advance the thread another page! So that's something. I'm not trying to be mean here, either, by the way. At all. I'm simply suggesting that your logic at withholding this supposed information doesn't strike me as all that sound.

This basketball season is lost.  No ifs, and, or buts about it.  But this is one of those days for me that puts life into context, and in a good way.

My wife and I have been foster parents to a joyful little boy for the last 678 days.  We've been in and out of the hospital with him with a variety of issues, among them two cranial reconstruction surgeries.  It's been a long, long journey, but in a few short hours he will be ADOPTED.  He is my son.  He is home forever, and we are eternally grateful.

So even though we're mired in the middle of the most Nebrasketball-ish Nebrasketball season ever, all is not lost in my home today.  All is found.

Classless fans can stay the efff home. I’m as frustrated, sad, and even angry as the next. I cut out of work early, busted my tail to go pick up my son, skipped dinner, sped down I-80 to Lincoln, parked up by the baseball field, and walked for ten minutes in the freezing cold to see ineptness and sloppy play. But I’m going to do it again. I did it under BC and DS, and I’ll do it again. But anyone who takes pleasure in seeing someone fail, lose their job, affecting families and kids, and then spouts off as a keyboard/twitter warrior calling Miles a POS and a loser, needs to look themselves in the mirror and ask “why am I a verified d-bag??”

Not to defend Tim Miles - because he certainly deserves his share of blame for this mess (and the most) - but I’m interested why Marc Boehm continues to safely have his job and coasting into retirement. He was/is here to “oversee basketball” and he’s overseen three men’s basketball coaches, lasted three athletic directors and the worst period of basketball in Nebraska history.

Yet he has a secure job and keeps cashing those big checks into retirement? Why exactly?

You could even argue his handling of Connie Yori was a debacle but that’s out of my “line of expertise” so I’ll stay in my lane on that one.

Get this guy out of here. I don’t want him anywhere near the 4th coach under his watch as the titanic sinks.

And local media reading this - grow a pair and stir this topic up.

I've been thinking these guys are too soft and way too laid back for a long time. Body language and blown leads show it. Gotta have a "killer" or 2 on the team that can back it up. We don't. Tired of JPJ driving and expecting a foul instead of expecting to score. I get that he wants to draw fouls. That's fine and dandy but make your damn free throws! That crap don't play in the NBA my man.
