One of the things missing last year was that swagger and display of personality. Fans wanted more emotion and personality. Glynn Watson, I loved him as our PG, but he was quiet and rarely did I see him get fired up.
Cam is going to have a monster dunk this year on someone and I’ll be happy to see it.

Honestly, in a best case scenario barring a miracle Yvan was going to pan out in year 2 or 3 regardless of what happened this year.  He's freakin' young to be doing this and he has the look and talent to make some B1G noise if he keeps moving forward with that talent.

Having him and Stevenson together at the 4 in a couple years should be a major luxury and it isn't rocket science to imagine both on the floor at the same time throwing some weight around... with Stevenson popping out for a 3 to keep the D honest.  I'm looking at Stevenson as Chuck Barkley-light... and that's not the worst comparison I've seen (and it's a heck of a player).  Yvan SHOULD play well with a player like that given a year or so of growth.

As far as I'm concerned, if Fred's bringing in players like that, let them do what they want for their country in the summer.  It won't hurt us.

To be honest, if we're as good as last year's team pre-injuries, we are a top 3-5 team in the conference.  I'm not ready to jump THAT far.

However, being slightly worse is nothing to be ashamed of... and would be ... say... .500 in conference and a fringe ncaa team.

I CAN see that... fairly easily, specifically if a certain transfer eligibility plays out in our favor.

If this team gels correctly, we could make some major noise in the B1G tournament and that's definitely good enough for me in year 1.

I just think it's fun to know we will probably average in the low 80s offensively.

Even if our defense sucks that'll be a fun brand of basketball.  And with doc I doubt it will suck.  Average would probably be good enough to be a very decent team.  83-75 type scores.

    Yep...

Sadler will make our d above average by the end of the year at minimum.

The gelling process... if it is half as fast as this recruiting insanity, this team is a sweet 16 team and a very difficult ncaa out due to guard play

Nobody has a clue because I cant think of a team that has ever turned over like this with this kind of talent.

Yeah, like i said it depends on gelling etc.

I'm seeing a team roughly as talented and deeper than the pre Copeland injury team.

Doesnt mean we won't suck.  But you absolutely have to be impressed by the quality of the turnover.

I'm pretty vocal in dislike of the obnoxious husker fans in any sport -- and yes we have them.  The last 20 years or so it has been the purists who (sometimes rightly) have undercut coaches of the football and basketball teams.

Even when they were right that doesnt make them any less obnoxious.  It made it significantly worse more often than not.

Those of you who dislike the cardinals in baseball and Patriots in pro football.. yep you get it.  And I'm a cardinal fan.

Sit down, shut up and enjoy the ride (or even better, get up and CHEER.  Loudly.)

It definitely looks like we just hired our Devaney or terry pettit in mens basketball.  Finally.

One of the big things that bugged me about her letter (and again she has every right to her opinion) is that she made it sound as if there are two sides to a certain debate.  Further, she fabricated a story-line (in my mind) between the silent majority versus a vocal minority.

I guess I never thought of myself in either category when it comes to Husker sports.  I am a realist that is a staunch supporter and provide donations, likely small in comparisons to many others.  I supported Joe until he passed, I am embarrassed by my actions towards Moe, and I have supported every other coach we have had sense then.  When they move on, I move on.

Now to the current point.  I have zero problems with players choosing to leave, and I have no problem with a coach recommending to players to move on.  Real world!  Players come, players leave.  Coaches come, coaches leave.  The constant is the program/school and the fan base.  I say fan base because a portion of the fans come and go as well.  If I were to buy or form a business, I would want to surround myself with employees who support my philosophy and are loyal to me and what I want to accomplish.  If a coach comes in, he should have a similar philosophy.  Attempting to force square pegs into round holes is not fair to the pegs or the holes.

So come on, whether you are vocal or silent, what this staff is doing that makes sense.  Coach Frost has done the same thing, and for this basketball team to climb the ladder, changes were going to happen.  Think about this as well, Coach Miles, for the majority of the season, relied heavily on five players.  He did not have a lot of faith in the bench either.  Granted Amir was hurt or sick or both, but for the most part, he would have pretty much started over as well.

So here we are.  Live with, and if you are a fan, jump on the wagon, this is going to a fun ride.

74% is a lot higher than 50% in 2 point shooting lol...

get zion and you win is the message... :P (or just get good players -- period)

i like good inside play too...  but you can win (and win big) with lots of good shooters so if that's what we're going to do I'm all for it.

it's very similar to all the people saying mike leach can't win in football because all he does is pass.  it makes some manly ethos' angry for some reason because they like 3 yards and a cloud of dust and good defense.

hoiberg's way works, and it's been proven to work.  and frankly, at this program we have zero room to nitpick on styles of play if the coach is going to win while doing it.

If you use a little analytics you'll understand why he doesnt necessarily care about height.  In theory anyway.

This isnt the pros where you are going against 7'0 like durant every night.

You need enough height for some rebounds.  But you need shooting from everyone.  Shoot 40% from 3 from 4 positions and you'll be fine.  A 3 is 50% more efficient than a 2 by definition.  That forces the other team to shoot 60% from 2 to keep up.  Even with "bad" defense it isnt that easy.

    In theory anyway.

It ends up being a lot more inconsistent is the issue.  But can be very fun to watch if you pull it off with a couple stretch 4s in your lineup.

Biggest thing is emphasizing what you do well and not playing scared.  Classic ncaa tournament runs are usually defined by guard play for a reason.

If that's the case... good riddance.

Frankly, the fact that we're going out there and getting a coach is a breath of freakin' fresh air on so many levels.   it was the exact same thing with frost.  we aren't 'settling' and paying a middling amount and stagnating anymore.

Attitude (good or bad) starts at the top and there was 10-15 years where we didn't have the wherewithal to sack up at the top.  And it showed.  Frankly, if he didn't want to pay for a coach he shouldn't have been involved in the decision process on any level.

reasoning?  Guard heavy with maric inside.  the guy was a beast.   three high end guards would drive opposing coaches insane and strickland would flat lock down the top guy at any other school -- and i pretty much mean ANY guy.  he did it in the NBA.

Miles played in the post season 3 out of 7 years (2 NITs, 1 NCAA), finished 4th in the Big 10 twice in 7 years.

Bold Prediction: IF Hoiberg stays 7 years, he WILL NOT accomplish the same, and it WON'T be his fault.

NU, as great and passionate as it is, is NOT a perenial basketball power.  You do not have to submit to what you've always been, but you have to accept who you are in the landscape of college basketball.

A much of possible fit Mile's comedy act would be at UNLV, he'd probably be run out of town when he doesn't win, just like he will here.

If you told me someone (Let's call him coach lue) could get lebron's kid and 5-10 other kids to come with within 2 years of starting and we'd be in at minimum a sweet 16 in the process....  well... i'd throw 8-10 million/year at him and not bat an eye.  And we'd be happy we did it.

    Having said that...

I have no idea where to stop and start with this beyond saying that whoever it is better have a plan that includes 5-star talent.  Raise the money levels until someone like that listens.  Big enough dollars and they'll pick up the phone.

I'm cynical.  Money talks.  And at end of the day, we've got more than most problems.  if we can't get that kind of guy it is because we aren't trying.

So at this point, I don't want to hear excuses.  That's all they will be.
