I hear you, I'm just saying, there was an awful lot of optimism around here before things fell apart that year. That was about as much fun as I've ever had watching this program.

Given the brutal conference and limited non conference i would be ecstatic if we make .500

This team won't win every game but we definitely do not suck.  Given our schedule, I'd be damn happy at .500 this year and looking forward to next.
 
Ball movement comes with trust.  If one or two guys hit the open 3, teddy will look when he's doubled and tripled.  Which will happen at some point.  They're going to make him make that pass in B1G play.
 
If thor or someone makes a couple in a row against a good team he's going to keep looking and this team could explode for a half or two.

Nevada will be a good test.  But this was fun.

Regarding last season, after losing the opener like we did and checking to see how our non-con opponents were doing early on I didn't know if we could win a game in conference play. So only winning 7 games didn't really come as a surprise. We were over matched in every conference game and we were rarely more talented than the opponent during the non-conference portion of the schedule. We had several players that weren't a good fit for the system and unfortunately some of those were guys we were counting on the most (Green and Burke in particular).
 
I've always been an optimist when it comes to Husker basketball. I just can't help it. Having said this, I think there are reasons to believe we will be substantially better this season, primarily the upgrade in talent on the roster but also a lot of these guys have something to prove. I know it remains to be seen how good this group will be, but I certainly don't think we will finish near the bottom of the standings. Of course we will have to wait and see. 🙂
 
 
 
 

I certainly didn't expect us to win 7.   I thought we'd be in the 11 or 12 range last year....so in that sense, it was a let down.   But I also was expecting Shamiel to be eligible, Jervay to pan out, Kavas to not get hurt and miss half the year and Mack not be a flake.
 
I'm not going to talk myself into thinking we are a top 4 conference team.   But I do think we will finish alot higher than 13th or 14th.
 
Padilla pointed out some of the teams above us earlier in this thread.   Northwestern is bad.  I think Penn St is going to fall off a lot, losing Watkins and Stevens and the drama with their coach.   I've been waiting several years for Purdue to fall apart again and think they lost quite a bit plus Hunter is out for 2 months.   Turgeon has never impressed me much, and I don't know if they have enough talent to overcome him this year.   Michigan will have talent, but not sold on Howard yet either and think they fall off a bit.   Minnesota was just okay and they lost their player.   So that right there is 6 teams that I'm not overly high on, on the surface.   Not saying we will be better than all of them.   But I can easily see us getting up to the 8th-10th spot in the conference this year before a breakout year in 2021-2022.

B1G All the Way.  Sure I miss playing the old Big 8/12 (North) teams that I grew up with, but that conference disintegrated long ago, never to return.  While the B!G isn't the same conference we joined either, I like the point made by @kleitus, that we CAN exert influence; and I'd rather exert that influence by being in favor of 'playing' that is, competing, instead of being 'shrinking violets.'  While we are pretty much the 'runts' of the league in several sports (volleyball excepted) that too may be about to change!
 
Then there is the financial stability and academic benefits attributed to being associated with the B1G.  Who knows, maybe the other schools will even support UNL being re-admitted to the academic union.

I can see their point.  I just don't think it's going to happen on many levels and I'd rather have Moos etc. go back to the B1G and say "if you want us to be quiet then stop being jackasses".  Why?  Because there's a lot more involved than just one football season.  and while i'm glad they're raising a stink, i'm also glad that we're fully vested in the conference so we CAN raise a stink and not have them find a legal way to boot us out without extreme consequences.

to be honest, the adults in the conference boardrooms need to step up.  they aren't visible right now.  How much of that is on warren I have no idea but he's going to be the guy to take the fall for it.
 

To me the current issue seems to be that Kevin Warren probably wasn't the right guy to lead this conference, especially during a pandemic.
