jdostal reacted to HB in uneblinstu's postgame chatter: vol 15, prologue: @ Colorado
Only because his ADs cut his nuts off. He didn’t have remotely the same situation as Fred. And the end came on suddenly. Going into the season, and especially after we blow out Creighton no one is thinking this. Collapse was quick and brutal and there it went.

I know you’re just reporting what Washut said, but Williams was on campus taking pictures with Hoiberg 4 different times April - September. The timing with Teddy’s commit makes me believe Williams wanted to be top dog and priority one, and needed a reason to decommit beyond “its looking like l won’t be top dog from day 1 like I’d hoped”. Seems highly unlikely that Hoiberg would reach out to Williams the day after he was hired saying he wanted him, visit him the day after he tore his ACL saying they still wanted him, have him on campus 4 times summer - fall, and be willing to use a valuable scholarship on him — all while ignoring him.

Loved Glynn so this isnt a knock on him but imagine the assist numbers Mack would have put up with a supporting cast of Roby, Palmer, Copeland, and Thomas Allen 🤯

Those are probably the same exact people who used to complain so loudly about how much of a waste it was to give Thor a scholarship. They used to post here about that very thing...loudly.
I'm pretty glad Thor has stuck around, and I hope Jervay does the same.

jdostal reacted to jimmykc in Jervay Green
It seems like Green has become a latter day version on Sec Henry who was never able to really connect with the fans despite having a pretty good skill set. Hopefully Jervay and Kavas will be able to adjust and contribute as time passes because it is naïve to believe this seven man rotation will survive through the grind of the league season with anything left physically or mentally by the end of the year.

Quite the gamble by Doc with that game plan, but we lucked out.

Iowa fans be like: How much longer before Thor graduates? Seems like he's been there forever.

The good news for Arop is that if the Rutgers game is any indication of how the rest of the season will go, he will get PLENTY of clock 😂😂

If we're talking pure run-jump athleticism, Stevenson is probably the only one who can compete with Akol. Banton is more skilled and longer, but I think Akol is probably more explosive.
That was the least meaningful part of he comment, though, and it wasn't meant to speak to his spot on the depth chart at all. Obviously the coaches aren't going to publicly say he's not good enough and has a terrible attitude, but Gates spoke highly of how Arop is handling this season and what he's bringing to the locker room. Anybody who watched him play before signing knew he was going to be a project to play at that level, especially in Hoiberg's system. Fred saw enough to accept his commitment, however, whereas he pushed almost everybody out like Penitent pointed out. There's a decent chance Akol doesn't finish his career at Nebraska like there is with any player these days, but I don't think him failing to crack the top 8-9 right now means he'll never be able to play.

jdostal reacted to The Polish Rifle in 2020 G Donovan Williams
Disagree on this. It’s not like we pushed Williams out, or he has ill will or feelings against Hoiberg or Nebraska. He didn’t see a path to immediate playing time, so he’s gonna pick a school that fits that want. Sallis may pick KU or another school but I doubt Williams will be a huge factor.
-
jdostal reacted to The Polish Rifle in 2020 G Donovan Williams
Williams said Teddy’s commitment “definitely, definitely, definitely played a part”. Which puts Hoiberg in a really tough spot, if Teddy makes the team better we gotta take him. Williams being committed didn’t deter Teddy, but Teddy’s commitment deterred Williams - so that’s the way the cookie crumbled. We wanted both.

jdostal reacted to The Polish Rifle in 2020 G Donovan Williams
Hmmmm I like Donovan a lot, so this sucks, but can’t really blame either side here. Let’s not spin this as Williams not wanting to play under Hoiberg or Hoiberg not wanting Donovan. Hoiberg obviously wants guys that will be immediately ready to get us to a tournament and Donovan wanted to be the alpha dog from day 1. With the commitment of Teddy it’s obvious that Donovan wasn’t gonna be the alpha dog from the start.

When Yvan is your age, do you think he will regret his decision to play for his country? Or will he look back fondly on that decision?
Personally, I don't think it really matters in the grand scheme of things. I understand your point, but look at it from the perspective of a 17 year-old kid getting ready to move to America for at least four years. Playing for France may have been a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

I was curious as to how this year's struggling conferences were stacking up to last year's historically awful, might as well be the Missouri Valley, B1G conference. The BEast and SEC are currently worse than the B1G finished last year. It'll be interesting to see how much those conferences are punished.
And obviously the Pac 12 deserves Bill Walton talking about getting high during their games because the basketball isn't really worth watching.

Trusting what he's doing and agreeing with how he's doing it are two very different things, and I think that's why there's been pushback.

The timing of this is about it being Finals week not necessarily who we have lined up. It's not like there has been any point where we have been full on scholarships

As an alum, and someone who attended almost every home game during my FR and SO years, I will be watching and rooting extremely hard for the OMavs.
They tip off at 8pm on ESPN2 against North Dakota State tonight. They beat NDSU 90-77 at Baxter and 58-50 on the road during conference play.
Just wanted to start a thread for anyone who is interested in discussing it. Put it on the main page for people to see. Feel free to move it to College Basketball forum later!

Right now, social media is laughing at all the dumb jerks on social media who relied on rumors on social media to assume something was amiss. Or amoos, if you'd rather.
So, now, social media provides us the answer that what was said before on social media was just a vicious rumor, showing once again that you can't trust social media.
Unless Moos leaves on his own accord. In which case, maybe social media was right? But … which social media? ?
In other news, I'm surprised Ronnie and Hank didn't say "we won't comment publicly on any coach or athletic department official until the season is over. Or a couple weeks after the season, whichever is later. Unless we comment earlier."

I save all my boos for the refs.?? To paraphrase Herman Melville if Davison draws a charge today: He piled upon the ref's striped back the sum of all the general rage and hate felt by his whole race from Adam down; and then, as if his chest had been a mortar, he burst his hot heart's shell upon it.
