Hunter made a mistake going to Gonzaga and having to be a role player there. One of the articles posted indicated he got to the point where he wasn't even going to try to score in games and would just settle into a defensive role because he didn't want to get yanked and chewed out by Mark Few. He would have been better served to come here and develop with a lot of playing time where he had a greater chance of being a focal point of our offense instead of thinking he had to just pass the ball to everyone else. But he's having a good time at Wake now, so I guess good for him.

I’d want Kal’el Ware from Indiana.  That guy is a beast and is a serious rim protector.

Two players I noticed from our non-conf schedule back in December that I thought might be good transfer prospects were Max Jones (Jr) of Cal State Fullerton and Jared Frey (So) from Stoney Brook. I posted on them after those games.  Well it turns out they played about their best games of the season against us.  Jones had 30 pts and Frey looked like solid all around player with a good looking shot.  Here are their stats for the year:

Jones: 15.3 pts, 3 reb, 2 asst, 38% FG, 33% from 3, 79% FT (volume shooter, not great 3pt shot)

Frey: 6.5 pts, 2.4 reb, 2 asst,  39% FG, 37% from 3, 78% FT (came off the bench later in year)

Long story short, I don't have a very good eye for spotting future talent.

I’m going to break the rules and name two juniors that I would love to have.
1 would be Julian Reese from Maryland. 6’9”, 230 pounds, physical, athletic, and active. Averaging about 15 and 10 this season, a consistent double double guy. Could compliment Reink’s skill set, and Mast isn’t an elite rebounder by any means, Julian is.

2, And I’d like some input from those who know his game better than I do, but how about our backyard and getting Frankie Fidler??
6’7”, 210, his season averages have gone from 12.8ppg frosh, 14.7ppg soph, and now 19.8ppg jr year. I think he’s a good shooter and could perhaps be a Griesel type player, though I do t think their games are identical.  I’ve heard some on the board say they’d take him…
    @basketballjones what say you??

It's also 4 more wins than Scott Frost ever had in five seasons at Nebraska. Just for some completely unrelated but seemingly humorous context.

Ouch.  As if they weren’t having enough problems this season.

I kind of figured Howard would ruin this team eventually but he has exceeded my expectations this year.  I hope they give him as much rope as we did Frost.

In response to the Wisconsin school classification convo. Pewaukee is in Division 2 (and ranked #2 behind Knueppel’s team). But they actually have played 3 of the top 6 ranked schools in Division 1 (largest classification). They lost to the #1 team, and beat the #3 and #6 ranked teams. Nick scored 30, 34 and 45 in those games, respectively.

Regular season is now over. 31.7 ppg, 8.7 rpg, 4.1 apg, 2.0 spg. Led team in every statistical category.

To be fair, I’m sure most of Keisei’s shots are considered bad… but there’s very few shots he takes where anyone is upset.

Any win over Indiana still means something with 5 natty banners hanging overhead. Doesn't matter their present situation, in my mind. Gotta keep beatin' I.U. -- that's probably how Indiana feels about beating NU in football, tbh.

I thought about starting a new thread for this, but royalfan said it perfectly.  No Sit Sunday was a big deal for the Husker program and what Tim Miles did here. You can't recreate that.  However, these next two Sundays can catapult the Husker program into areas we dreamt about in the early 90's with Danny!  Everyone in attendance has to do their all to make sure Nebraska wins these games!  I know you will!  GBR!

Beating Kansas could’ve been our ticket. I remember conversations in December after that loss about what a huge missed opportunity that could end up being. That’s the reason why I said before the Purdue game this year that we HAVE to win this game. Without that win we wouldn’t have a very strong argument right now.

That's an issue I have with some metrics, there is no factor made for the human performing said action, not every shot Steph Curry takes is advisable, same can be said for Keisei Tominaga. I think the efficiency of "what a specific player is capable of" ought to be considered.

Yeah, definitely not arguing that from any former Missouri Valley fan. The old Big East is arguably better. But the new Big East has some high quality teams that I've enjoyed watching over the decades. I'm sure that's just a fun hoops conference to be part of. But to come out to say a conference is averaging 3.2 bids a year is laughable.

I am curious to see how BPI conference rankings will differ from tournament play. It was noticeably wrong in college football bowl games this last season. Should be a fun one.

Love it. I had NU at 21-10 and 11-9 going into the season, and hardly anyone had predicted anything more that number of victories. I am now hedging on that as a bottoming out at that number. It's basically 2-2 for the remainder of the regular season. I'm hoping for A LOT of wins to close it out, including the BTT. This is our year, LET'S DO THIS!!

Two years ago, we were coming off the worst three-year run in the modern history of the program. Maybe ever, but I'm not going to go back to the beginning to verify. Twenty-four wins combined in his first three seasons here and I'm of the understanding Fred thought he was done, which was why he didn't schedule a youth basketball camp that summer after his third season.

The only thing that probably saved his job was a potential need to keep our powder dry in order to fire Scott Frost at the helm of the flagship football program.

That spring, we picked up a portal commit from a Lincoln kid who wanted to come home and play his last season of college basketball in front of the hometown crowd. Turns out, that pickup was transformational, as Fred recently acknowledged in comments about Sam coming back to watch our game against Penn State. Sam Griesel, according to Fred, changed the culture of the team. It was unselfish ball, and it allowed people (including potential recruits) to see what the finished product was supposed to look like when we ran our system instead of running hero-ball.

There was another Summit League standout who was looking for a new home that same spring. A kid who grew up just west of here. We tried to get him to Lincoln. And he was gracious in turning us down. He observed that, while we're starting to build a culture here at Nebraska (which was a nice way of saying we didn't have one), another team just east of us already had one established. Hard to hold that against him. After three of the worst years in program history, it would have been a tall ask to get anyone to believe we were on the cusp of turning things around. You could get a local Lincoln kid to spend his last season of college ball here because it's literally his home. But drawing a kid with more extended eligibility was obviously not as easy.

Last season, though, we, as fans, could get a better glimpse of how the pieces fit together when the system was run the way it was intended. And so could recruits. Big men and backcourt players alike could watch our film and envision what their role would be in a Husker uniform. We have a system. We have a culture. We finally have an identity.

So, a little more than a year ago, I suggested the following:

Fred has said the way things played out last year and the success on the floor that we had at the end put us in position to land guys like Rienk Mast and Brice Williams. And, frankly, Ahron Ulis, but that's a different matter. We got everything from the portal that we needed -- a skilled post to replace Walker, a solid point guard to replace Griesel, and an athletic wing to provide some scoring punch -- we just didn't plan on the extracurriculars that would keep Ulis from participating this year.

And now, this year, it's hard to argue the trajectory of the program. And, again, potential recruits can watch our film and -- IMPORTANTLY -- they can easily see how they would fit within our system. I think that's huge when it comes to recruiting. It's like sales. You want the buyer to envision driving that car or drinking that beer. And I think kids will be able to imagine how they would fit in our program and how they could contribute.

And the doors we're unlocking with the way this season is playing out ... the NET might not factor in the story lines, but kids hitting the portal sure will.

All of this is just to say I think we'll enjoy our portal experience this spring. We have a FAR better chance of landing the kinds of players we were just missing out on a year or two ago.

busticket reacted to Norm Peterson in So, what does everyone think of the new starting lineup?
This is exactly why I'd go with Lawrence over Allick in the starting lineup. That and the issue of Brice getting into the offensive flow.

So, mark me down as not a fan of the new lineup. I'd go back to JLaw starting at point, Josiah off the bench, and Brice in his natural wing spot.
