  1. or since we've been more successful has the board become more negative? It appears to me that there are a larger quantity of mean-spirited posts. Maybe there are just more posts so its not the percentage but the overall number. It just seems to me that there is less free flow of discussion because someone seems to jump in with a completely insulting post which kills the thread. Things got ugly at the end of Doc's tenure and some did get spiteful, but the majority seemed to have reasoned discussion of differences of opinions. Not so much anymore.
  2. I'm not understanding you because what it sounds like you are saying doesn't sound like a travel to me.
  3. Bobby Knight said you have a system that you modify to emphasis the strength of the players you have in the system right now. He played man but adjusted his pick up point based on the players in the program. Quick feet he picks up at 92 feet, slow feet and he picks up at 18 feet. Sort of the pack-line defense before there was an official pack line.
  4. You seem to be missing some vital details after how you plan on lining up.But I have complained to a co-worker all year it isn't just our inbounds vs a full court press - it is every time we have to inbounds the ball. We seem to have one BLOB play that is effective and everything else is please let us get this in before the 5 count. btw - still thrilled to death with the way the season has gone. http://www.coachesclipboard.net/4AcrossPressBreak.htmlNot all the details and I prefer to move them to the top of the key....lots of variations off this line up...it forces spacing, and allows you to attack not be passive. I like the four across press break (but not really any of the options on your link - IMO unecessairly complicated.) I preferred just teaching them how to break a trap instead of a specific press breaker. Find out where your opponent wants to trap and get someone under the trap, one splitting the trap & one over the trap & the goes to your basket to spread them out. I taught how to split traps & things like the reverse x-over dribble to get traps going the wrong way but it appears to me that Nebraska's trouble is just getting it in which your four across is good at fixing. If they match up it is now a m-4-m press at least on the inbounds. I like just a point breaking hard to and then through the baseline on an arc. If they defense ends up behind even slightly the point can get the ball on the dribble already attacking. If they hold the full front stop right at they baseline & lock them up for the throw over the top. If they don't guard the ball & deploy that defender to take away this over the top pass then I would have my point stop right on the oob's line. That puts the defender out of bounds. Hit him with the ball. The rules read that coming in contact with the ball across the line can result in a technical. I realize getting hit in the butt was not the rules intent but it still counts. There was a coach who loudly proclaimed this action unsportsmanlike as we walked down to shoot the technical foul with 2 seconds left and a tie ball game. See, I have always been a little bit of an asshole.
  5. Really??? I hate Craft but have to give the kid his due as he is a very good defender. He finds a way to defend and not get calls against him for some reason. You can't blame him for that. I hate Craft and Grant Gibbs the most of anyone else in the country but Benny is not about the same as Craft. Craft is absolutely an elite defensive guard, but that doesn't mean he isn't getting away with murder... Getting away with murder can make a good defender an elite defensive guards. He's elite, period. Good use of the "period" I guess that means the discussion is over huh? Craft is bigger and stronger than Benny and that gives him a big advantage but it has been my observations that Benny has better feet and and should receive fewer blocking calls than Craft but he doesn't. Craft is allowed to bump ball handlers on the drive and get away with it on a consistent basis. I'm sure you can find posts I made last year whining about the same thing. Michael Jordan was a great defender made even greater by the fact he was allowed to reach put his hand on players hips and was strong enough to bring people to a stop that way. He also used it to great effect on offense. (ask Bryon Russell ) That doesn't mean MJ was made by the officials. He made himself and then the officials began to give him every questionable call making him even better. There is no doubt Craft is a very good defender. He is made better by the fact that for some reason the refereeing gods have decided he can get away with murder.

  8. So a rumor we have one committed or a rumor we want one? Swan might be talking about a hint dropped by Brian Rosenthal a while back at a time when the Georgetown kid -- Wittington? -- was still a possibility. I think most people assumed that's who he was talking about. But I haven't heard anything further about that rumor since then. Certainly nothing appears to have gone anywhere with Wittington. I don't know if perhaps Swan had someone else in mind or a different rumor in mind, but that's the last of anything I've heard. Whittington committed to Rutgers but from what I heard didn't enroll for this semester. The goal was spring and summer sessions so he would be eligible right away next year but he will have to sit somewhere now I think.
  9. I was reading this on my phone and if there is a way to down arrow on the mobile site Idk how. I don't think I've ever given a down arrow on purpose (sorrry to the two who I accidentally hit the wrong button on) but I had to find a computer as soon as I could just so I could give it my first on purpose down arrow.
  10. Which is why I drug my hungover ass to buy 20 breakfast burritos. Only to find no one there. At least my house is fed this morning. Way to take one for the team. Get a plus in the good karma column for that one.
  11. There were pictures tweeted at 5:00 AM of students lining up at the Vault.
  12. He has now been officially been arrested. I feel sorry for the kid's parents if they worked to send their boy to college.
  13. Our school has an eligibility rule. Any kid with two or more classes below a 63% (D) can't participate in any extra curricular activities (athletics, drama, dances, etc).If 63% is a D, what do you have to do to fail?Sixty or below. Call me old school but I think you should have to reach a descent freethrow shooting percentage before you can pass a class.
  14. I posted this somewhere else but proud of my son for his perspective. He asked last Saturday to go to the game like we had decided many game days before. When I told him that now that the team is winning you can't just walk up and get tickets. His response was something like, "That's not fair. Anyone that actually watched Nebraska lose to Maryland Baltimore Shore Coast State or whatever in person should be able to get tickets to any game they want to.
  15. Word I heard today is the idiot was a junior and will be expelled from school. I'm sure his parents are very proud.

  17. Don't forget you have to have somebody be the shot clock operator. Some might volunteer to do so, but most of the time you have to pay that person too. So that's an added cost. Just have the guy who runs the possession arrow take care of the shot clock. He's already sitting there getting paid. You don't need a whole separate guy. That guy is already running the clock and keeping score
  18. That certainly wouldn't be a bad place to start... Because there is nothing better than bad basketball played faster? Pace and lack of success are not one & the same. I'm not talking about success. The better the player the faster you can play. The games seems slower to those who have a high skill level. There are very few D & C teams that are ready to speed up their game. And while I'm at it there are quite a few A & B as well. I saw a little bit of Aurora this year and they certainly are not ready to play any faster. I'm not talking about success. When two bad teams play one of them has to win. Players and teams with lower skill levels do not need to be pushed to play faster and I would say that would cover the majority of high school teams in the state at all levels.

  20. I can't fix his shot but he can. That's the Catch-22. He's not making buckets because he lacks confidence. With confidence he will be shooting fine. He needs to make buckets to gain confidence. Hence, the catch. But maybe we've created this problem in our own minds. I could look it up (but won't), is his shooting percentage really that much lower than last years. Might he just not be taking near as many shots?
  21. Life is not all or nothing. We weren't great yesterday and we aren't terrible tonight. Ray's playing great defense and is always one of the hardest workers in the motion offense. For one thing he is not getting anywhere the number of shots as last year, partly because he isn't getting any sets run for him this season. That is not his role this year. It would be great for him to have a break out game. It may or may not happen, he has always been a streak shooter. Ray can play a bit. He has his weaknesses but I'm sure he could destroy anyone on this message board. He has dealt extremely well with going from being the go to guy to accepting his role off the bench. Most, and I mean most D-1 players couldn't deal with that. I'm sorry you feel bad about THEIR loss tonight, but insulting Ray is just childish. If you ever played I'll bet you were a finger pointer there as well. From what I can see, Ray is a great teammate. I'm sure he feels much worse than you because he is physically, mentally and emotionally invested as part of the team. As a fan I'm sorry they lost as well. Ray plays hard. He plays with heart. He is one of our guys. I'm rooting for him. Us Always.I stand by my statement. Right now Rey is not good. And hasn't been for some time. I realize we don't really have any other options and are just going to have to hope he can hit a few shots down the stretch. No you don't stand by your statement, you sit behind it at the key board with a fake name. Standing by it would be saying it to his face. I would never call anyone "not good" unless I could personally beat them. If I can beat you, you aren't good. You can't beat Ray. Ray is a D-1 basketball player on what we hope is a bubble team. They don't let "not good" players play on those teams. He knows his role because it has been spelled out to him by his coach. I'm not part of the team but I take exception to someone who obviously thinks putting the ball in the hoop is the only thing that makes you a good player insult a team player on what I like to think of as my team.

  23. My son last Sunday, "Hey dad let's go to the Nebraska game." "No tickets" "We can just walk up" "Not any more. Nebraska is winning and tickets are now hard to get" "That's not fair. Anyone that watched Maryland-Eastern-Baltimore-Coast-State or whoever beat Nebraska in person should be able to get tickets to any game they want to go to."
  24. There are lots or rope ladder and plyometric stuff but what gets overlooked a lot when discussing speed and quickness (two totally different things) imo is getter stronger. For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. You have to be able to drive your foot into the ground with force or you will get no return no matter how quickly you pick it up. Lots of SAQ guys are now talking about shorter strides so you can keep you foot on the ground longer to create more force. You feel slower but move faster. Bottom line is your right, there are lots of things you can do to improve speed and quickness.
  25. Not all over AGAIN!!! For many Nebrasketball followers this tournament chasing thing is a first time experience. That makes it deja new
