Did you see the different angle. There was a camera angle from the baseline that showed he didn't double pump that was him getting hit on the shooting elbow.

The last shot they showed of the play from a different angle showed they solidly hit Burke on the shooting elbow.

He has scored, or gotten really good shots, consistently every time teams have left his defender to handle him alone on the left block. He effectively uses a Barkley or double drop move, middle to baseline. He struggles with recognition when the D doubles down and digs. He tends to get it taken away too often in those situations. The double-drop counter seems to be his go to so his counter becomes the middle jumphook. He misses bunnies because there is no follow through on the shot. Yes you still need to follow through on palm to the basket layups and certainly on the jump hook. Without the follow through his shot doesn't have the soft backspin and sort of floats up and too many times bounces out. He does fade away from contact too much almost exclusively on the right side of the basket. I think part of it stems from him not willing to go into the defense towards the middle meaning he would have to use his left hand. I am aware of two basic ways to teach the jump hook and I think the one he uses exacerbates his lack of follow through problem. Danny Nee taught the "V." Your shoulders never rotate, the inside arm goes up when the hand comes off the ball to protect and when you shoot your arms form the V as you hook or flip the ball up from behind your head. This is not a natural shooting motion and when your shooting hand just stops with your fingers still pointed to the sky, which it tends to do with this technique, the ball becomes a knuckler with no spin. Same thing that is happening to many of his bunnies. That means if you hit any iron you have no idea what is going to happen next in relation to the bounce. That's what is happening to Yvan. The method I got from McDermott is a more natural shooting motion. You still get your toes parallel to the basket when you go up protecting the ball with your body. Both hands are on the ball until the top of your jump when the inside arm comes off and you rotate your shoulders to the basket. That means you are clearing out with the off arm and as you rotate the shot finishes with your regular form including a natural follow through at the end. Now you are putting up a much softer shot. One that has a better chance of dying when it hits the rim and falls in. Defensively we are playing behind posts. I'm sure to put us in better rebounding position since that is a weakness well documented. We doubled against Indiana and Purdue but have usually left them on their own against other teams where the posts do not scare us as much. When we get hurt is when we don't start playing defense early enough and let them seal us too close to the basket. If you are going to be successful with this technique you need to go to work early and push the post as far from the basket as you can. We relax or get overpowered, or both and the defender puts us too close to the basket which almost always ends up in 2 for the other team. The post from North Dakota did a great job of this. He sealed low and then we had no answer to his jump hook. He used the clear out, rotate the shoulders and had a nice follow through on every shot. He has been the best fundamental offensive post player we have faced this year in my opinion. That is not surprising due to their head coach spending some time with McDermott as a GA at Wayne State.

I like Green. Word on campus is he and Mack do not see eye to eye. Could be Mack's personality or that Mack is getting most of the pub, but he will usually pass you the ball when open. I do remember one play Green was running the wing and calling for the ball when Mack pulled up for a no pass three. You could see that upset him but it would have upset me too.

With the 3 or 4 players leaving last week, he’s pretty much made it “his” team.

He played pretty well last year when given the opportunity. That comes first. You have to get on the floor to be a player. Second, CONFIDENCE. It had to be a shot of confidence when he was the only player Fred wanted to come back. Hoiberg continues to trust him while the opportunities grow and Thor has certainly taken advantage of the chances given this year. Painter actually mentioned Thorir in his post game press conference.

He also said Nebraska was awful at the beginning of the year. He didn’t want to show his team our tape. He was hoping the team that got its doors blown off against Creighton showed. He also said if they came back and won it would have been a shame because Nebraska out played them. Said Cam was the best player on the floor.

Fred is an excellent X & O coach. The play to get Burke an open 3 to take us into over-time was executed to perfection. But we shouldn't get carried away. Nebraska ran dribble at action last year under Tim Miles. That's Pete Newell/Pete Carril stuff. You can probably find a bunch of elementary teams doing the same thing.

The T fouled him out. You go shoot the T and then the second free throw is shot with the lane cleared. Made or missed dead ball after the shot and your disqualified player goes to the bench. Made FT goes to the defensive team and I believe on a miss you go to the possession arrow. Regardless, there are rules in place for such an occurrence. The biggest culprit in this situation was the guys at the scorers table that are supposed to keep track of that stuff.

How many dudes 6’7 or taller with long arms do we face in any year that are playing guard? Or wing for that matter.

No. Lots can be done defensively based on yesterday’s game. We gave straight line drive after straight line drive to the basket with help arriving late or not at all. That’s a mental break down and should be fixable IF the players want to work hard. And I lost track of the “and ones” we gave up that were silly stick the hand in weakly, not stopping a shot ever, foul or concede, make up your mind, type of fouls. I could go on but even the rebounding can be greatly improved with more physical but mostly mental effort.

They switched from jumping or what he called blitzing ball screens. They were getting hurt by slips so they went to playing ball screens flat with Cam sort of in permanent help.

I believe the rule is he gets to shoot his free throw and then goes to the bench.

We cleared the lane for Mack's free throws and when he made the first he instinctively reached out for fives but no one was there so he extended a hand to a WSU player. He was embarrassed and trying to cover. Not a T. Fred didn't think so either.

There's coach speak and then there's coaches being themselves. Izzo doesn't write a forward for just anybody that asks. He and many in the coaching community sincerely held Miles in high regard. That obviously doesn't always equate to success.

Who are we dismissing? I believe they were called "The Big Five" for a reason all year.

Yvan on Copeland? Cope scores as many as he wants on that matchup. Last year’s team vs this year’s team at this time of the year? I don’t see that as close at all. Call me a pessimist or a realist but my expectations for the year are not high. Maybe watching OSU play football has left me with a Husker hangover but we simply don’t have the Big 10 bodies. Our perimeter players were attacking the basket against almost no defense and had no one to meet them at the rim except our undersized bunch. Like always we have the ability to steal one here or there (mostly here) but if we have a game where we shoot like we did in the scrimmage there is no one in conference we can even stay close. I think by being realistic you can get a pleasant surprise and you can skip the sky is falling fire Frost, bench Martinez stuff during basketball season.
