I watched the 1st half of WU-WSU last night.  He started and looked exactly like he did at NU.  Made a couple of buckets but had 3 fouls in 1st half.  He always looks like he's right on the edge of being out of control.  Kind of like a gangly kid who's not really sure what his body is going to do at any given moment.  Doesn't really look like he's made much improvement.  He would probably be better suited to move to the mid-major level.  They did beat WSU on the road to deny WSU a chance for a share of the Pac-0 regular season championship, though.

He hit the floor on five consecutive possessions - 3 on D & 2 on the offensive end. He seems to have gained some weight and it has not helped his game.

Eh, they’re playing incredible ball since his comments. Which were obviously meant to motivate his team, and it worked. Sometimes being a prick is the right button to push.

But yes I could definitely see Simeon transferring to Lincoln. Would be cool.

In hindsight he’s trying to play it off as he was trying to motivate them. If you watched in real time you could tell he was just angry and lost his

shit.  Seems to have done some excellent damage control.

Kesei has been pulling the string on his 3 point shots the last 6 games or so. He won’t be sure he elite shooter that he can be if he doesn’t fix his mechanics. I don’t recall exactly when it started but he hit the game winner 3 with poor follow through mechanics and it has continued the last 3 games. He had a couple of wide open ones tonight that he didn’t have to hurry to get off and had bad mechanics. Got to get it fixed

Watch the tape. He has always shot that way. Always seemed odd to me but if it works...

  4. Both very good players but I don’t think TP and Palmer could co-exist for a season. I think 17-18 by far the most talented starting five but had no bench. My combined would be:

    Watson

    Keisei

    JPJ

    Roby

    Copeland

We play an 8 1/2 man rotation now. Rice the 1/2. So my bench is:

Mast (might send  Roby to the bench vs big teams)

    Gary

    Thomas

    Shields

Everyone could shoot the three, size, physicality, Mast is the least athletic which means you’re solid.

  5. I don't think Keisei had a bad game, he wasn't given a game. I'm not second guessing anything, especially looking at how things turned out,  but he has had plenty of games start like that and then explode. Defensively I think he was Keisei. He got his hands on a couple balls and fouls were called that weren't really sending him to the bench. He only took 6 shots the whole game. I'm sure Ohio State would have been excited going in if they knew Keisei would be held to 6 shots. We don't need him to carry the offense this year and that's a good thing, but he can still carry the offense if given the chance.

Okay, I am now better prepared to provide my opinion as to the rotation as we are now in the meat of our schedule.  I am more concerned with who is playing when the game is on the line rather than starters.  So these appear to be the the players with my estimated minutes [200 total minutes]

    Front Court

    Mast  30

    Allick  25

    Gary   25

    Front/Back Court

    Williams  30

    Wilcher  20

    Back Court

    Lawrence  25

    Tominaga  25

    Hoiberg     20

    Outside looking in

Coleman - needs to reduce turnovers

Rice - defense needs to improve

Diop - strength and basketball acumen

***Lloyd, Grace, Burt, Blaise, Cale, Ulis will help us get better.  And then, you never know.

Gary may have been our best player since he came back. He and Mast need more minutes than Allick. Big gap between those two and him. And personally, I’d like to

    see more Keisei.

There may be seven more teams, but the game is global now. There is so much more talent in the league from Europe, Asia, and Africa that it easily makes up for an extra 7 teams. I watched the league's heyday in the 80s through the Jordan era of the 90s and there is *no* comparison to the talent and athleticism in today's NBA. None. Zero.

Now, I'm not a big fan of the way the NBA game is currently played and officiated, but I couldn't be more impressed with the sheer talent on display in that league.

That was my comment earlier - it’s all subjective. Whether people want to admit it or not there is no way of really “proving” anything.

Not saying they weren't elite shooters, but each team now tends to have several elite shooters. I grew up on 90s basketball, so I'm not ignorant to great players from past eras!

I admit to age bias,  everyone thinks the music and sports were better in their day. The league used to be 23 teams. We are now at 30. That’s over an extra 100 slots.   From my perspective I see players that start or are big rotation players from championship teams today that wouldn’t be good enough to even be on a team in a 23 team league.

There was a stat that just came out which said:

"The league-leading 2016-17 Warriors' offensive rating would rank 17th this year. Offenses just keep getting better and better."

    Offensive Ratings:

114.8 for the Warriors in 2016-17

    115.0 for the Warriors in 2023-24 (#16; Timberwolves 114.0 #17)

Or… the same stat could be used to show the defense is getting worse. It’s subjective.

To me, the biggest difference with Keisei this year compared to the end of last year is his cutting.

Seems to be less crisp on his cuts, maybe a step slower, which is all it takes to change an easy layup into a 6 footer trying to finish in traffic.

Now, is it lingering ankle issues? Or could some of it be not having the same connection like he & Walker had going? Probably some of both.

I think the difference is  no Walker. Same cuts just no delivery. Mast is Ok but not Walker and  Allick looked at a couple cuts that KT was wide open on and just didn't pull the trigger. A couple were so obvious that he could hear the crowd make a collective groan.

Juwan Gary was short & long. One of his corner 3s was way long, another clanked off the corner of the backboard. It was definitely due to launching and hoping. Not a sustainable shooting motion. He needs to attack the glass more often.

CJ also hit the side of the backboard. Gary needs to go to the basket more I agree but he has a completely different shot than last year. His FT’s are just under 70% and after the last game he is still shooting about 38% from three. Even in the last game he shot 33%. So attack the basket more but he still can catch and shoot within the offense.

I would not be surprised if Dest never gets another cap. That was unforgivable behavior. Completely inexcusable.

Horrible judgement, yes. Unforgivable, yes.  He’s also one of the US top 6 or 7. Take his punishment whatever that is - probably won’t get called up for the next camp because he can’t play with the red. If we have any chance to be competitive in the Copa we need a well-heeled Dest at left back. If we can smooth over the Gio controversy, we can make this work as well.
