Everything changes.  That’s a constant—which is on steroids these days.
In sports, coaches and teams must adjust or fade away.  That’s why the long-standing blue bloods don’t like the new way and are at risk: their old way of prevailing no longer works.
And that’s one thing I love about what our new athletic director said at his introductory speech: “Today it’s NIL.  Tomorrow it will be something else.”

Word on the street is that two of them are staying-with or going-to Wisconsin.  I've heard no street word on the third.
So . . . we had the same discussion a year ago about Chucky.  Who thinks there is even a remote chance of Chucky (or another Bellevue West grad) coming to Nebraska this second time around?
As to the two in the portal, they are both excellent players, and we'd love to have them.  But if they don't want to come here (or if they aren't our highest priorities), there are other excellent players available.
Further, it's amazing to me that a Nebraska player would go to another B1G school, instead of wanting to be the next Sam Griesel or Josiah Allick--with all the love and notoriety they have achieved across the entire state and its loyal fans.

Perhaps.  But each was supposed to be a one-and-done—and both rarely saw the floor.  Signing a 5 star brings with it a responsibility to use and develop that talent—like Hoiberg did with Bryce McGowens.  Signing a 5 star and relegating him to the bench seems like a breach of trust of some sort for that player.  And it’s likely the last time a 5 star signs on with that coach?

Ha!  Yeah.  And that’s what everyone said when we beat Purdue by 16 this season,

I will admit, I actually shed a small tear when Purdue won.  Well deserved and well earned.  Plus, we beat them which further confirms, we are not that far away.

Interesting hearing Van Gundy compare college ball to the NBA.  He indicated that college refs allow play to be much more physical.
Whether true or not, it sort of blows my mind.  I remember the NBA during the bad boy era.  Even before with Moses Malone and a host of others.  They had a ton of bad mo fo's on the court.  High School and college was much more finesse and skill oriented.
Now pro ball is the most hands off level of play...goodness gracious.
By the way, high school ball is WAY out of hand.  The administration and referee association has to fully address and alter foul versus non fouls.
So back to college, maybe holding Keisei is now a perfectly fair and normal way to play the game 🤷‍♂️

The more I watch this ncaa tournament the more I feel like we just got the worst possible draw. There’s countless teams in the 6-10 seed range I feel we’re better than.

Illinois lays another egg in the Tourney.  I didn’t watch the game.  What happened in the second half?
It’s like the reverse of our game against Illinois in the B1G Tourney.  We were ahead by 15 until Illinois went into its running back style of play (but without helmets and shoulder pads), and the refs let them do it.

Alabama is in the Elite 8 with 5 of their top 6 scorers starting their careers at a mid-major school.

Mid-majors are basically the new JUCO. Coaches should expect if they find/develop a diamond in the rough, they'll only have him for 2 years max.

I personally had no problem cheering my butt off for Brice Williams, Rienk Mast and Josiah Allick. Just about 12 months ago I had no idea who Brice Williams or Rienk Mast were. It didn't matter to me. If you choose to come play for Nebraska at any point, then welcome. So in that sense the roster turnover doesn't bother me too much.

But I would say that this changing teams every year is ridiculous and needs to stop. Professional athletes are not even allowed to do that. You can't just have a great year and then declare yourself a free agent and go play for the highest bidder the following year. There are things called contracts in the real world, and the TEAM owns your rights to play. We need to fix this system because it is outrageous.

Grant Nelson (Summit League) for Alabama, Baylor Scheierman (Summit League) and Dalton Knecht (Big Sky League) for Tennessee have been stars for their NCAA teams after transferring. I have to wonder whether they would have been able to develop their present skills as fully sitting on the bench for a couple of years at their present schools had they started there originally. It seems that the way to success in today's system is being able to spot the upcoming Mid and lower major talent early and harvesting them first. Are coaches able to approach this potential well of talent before they declare for the portal, i.e. poach them, or is it breaking some rule?

I guess I'm in the minority here because I think this is fun. Would have been nearly impossible to dramatically improve the roster pre portal days.

Sign me up. 4 years to play 4. Skilled big man!  I’m not worried about the MIP and the weed. Just freshman mistakes, to me that’s not a sign of character concerns. I got an MIP my freshman year in college, but that doesn’t define who I am. And I think I turned out fine, never been in trouble again.

We are in a significantly better place in terms of landing guys out of the transfer portal than we were last season. Hopefully that means we are able to land an even better group.

OK, guys, hear me out here:

I know that you can't do the "what if" stuff and it works both ways, BUT ...

In the first half, they waived off a Keisei bucket and clearly incorrectly called him for travelling. Count that basket. Now, we're only down 12 at half.

In addition, Josiah Allick missed 5 layups in the first half. Point blank. If he makes just 3 of those, now we're only down six.

For the game, they shot an unbelievable 13 of 23 (56.5%) from beyond the arc. Let's say they just shoot a torrid 40%, which is still 12% better than their average and 5% better than they shot against Houston. That's 9 of 23. That's 12 points difference. Maybe they get a couple of offensive rebounds off those misses and get 2-point put-backs. That's still 8 fewer points on their end.

So, instead of losing 83-98, that puts it at 91-90, good guys on top.

My point is we weren't as bad as the final score made us look AND the game really came down to them being way uncharacteristically hot from deep.

And to add to this point, that same team, shooting a more ordinary 35% from deep, just took a #1 seed to OT.

    That's who we lost to.
