Huskerone got a reaction from 49r in Gutless statement from Moos
Wow, listing it all out like that really hits it home for me. Great post. This tells me Miles is the least of our problems. How can an athletic administration be so lacking. And folks think we're going to get a top coach to come here?

I mean... it's been detailed pretty extensively throughout the board over the last few weeks, if not last several years. But off the top of my head:
- This statement, both in its content and rollout. Why was it necessary? Why was there no statement of congratulations? Regardless of personal opinion, it was a point of contention both in the fanbase and the national media, and that adds to our perception of indifference if not actual incompetence.
- The athletic director's lack of attendance at games, at home and at this tournament
- The randomly-enforced "rule" with regard to outside consultants
- The lack of contract extensions, as well as their rollout. Again, regardless of personal opinion, any time you can use the term "twisting in the wind" to describe the relationship between athletic director and coach, it's a bad thing -- and that's something that Miles has had to deal with not once but three times now, twice by the same (current) athletic director. Even if you think the lack of extension was the right move, the perception nationally is not good, and the rollout of it was an unmitigated disaster.
- The recruiting issues that Kent alluded to, as well as Robin Washut in previous years
- The ticket office apparently forgetting (?) to send out postseason ticket information -- it's either that they forgot or they intentionally chose not to, but either way, it isn't a good look
That's all been in the last year alone. I'm not even counting the Roburt Sallie thing, the Shim Shams thing (and the underlying ambivalence that led to it), the relatively low spending compared to the rest of our conference, the lowballing for the new facilities until donors got involved, or the fact that it took until 2011 to actually build one in the first place. Individually none of these things really hinders our lack of performance when it comes to NCAA tournament wins. However, I do think it demonstrates a pretty noticeable trend of athletic department indifference (at best), and this is all just what we see publicly. So I think it's also fairly safe to say that the department's commitment to men's basketball is pretty lacking. It's possible to win in spite of that, but why would you not just work to get everyone invested, rowing together, and clear away the obstacles rather than create them?

You want to know why Nebraska is never any good in basketball, look right at the administrations. From the coaches they hire, to the administration support for the coaches (i.e. tim miles the last two years), I'll even throw out the Roburt Sallie mess (which doesn't happen if he is a football player). When our administration starts to take our basketball program seriously, then I will. Rant done.

I just feel lucky that we have the basketball savant that is Marc Boehm getting to work with and oversee his soon to be 4th basketball coach. He’s done such great work here. Consistent winning. Lots of NCAA Tournament appearances in his 19 years. Continued domination of Creighton. Player after player into the NBA.
Marc also helped oversee the magnificent handling of Connie Yori and ensuring our women’s team lost the one great thing it had over the last 25 years.
Marketing wise, Marc helped lead this program into all of our hearts. Constantly with the hottest basketball gear for sale. For example, I love that we can find the shirt with Herbie spinning a basketball for sale that literally every Husker fan wants. And I love that we’ve had bobble heads for basketball.
Oh wait, never mind.

This was my concern with Moos and basketball. All his incentives are tied to fixing football. Pretty much every other way outlined on this board would have been a better way to handle than said statement. Miles deserves better. Nebraska basketball deserves better. Nebraska basketball fans deserve better.

It will be a fail of epic proportions if we get rid of Tim and hire another Mid-Major. Period.

I agree. I know people want it faster and i agree with those that say we could be consistently a much stronger program, but as AD I would support a good dude that is filling the place and starting to consistently "knock on the door" of the breakthrough we need for our program.
I don't want to spin the mid-major coaching wheel for another build, our cupboard is not bare.

What I think is unfair is that if you know you are firing Miles, then just fire him sooner than later so he can find another gig, if he wants one, and before they all get filled in the coming weeks. I know that Miles is under contract and obligated to coach as required by his contract. However, if you are holding him just to buy time or let him finish the season in the NIT, that just seems like bad business. Fire him and name Lewis interim coach if Miles is gone regardless. Miles deserves better than this. He has been nothing but classy and has never done anything to embarrass the University...read between the lines on that one. This was so predictable of an administration that has given two shits about this team and coaching staff for the last couple seasons.

Huskerone got a reaction from Swan88 in Nebraska (16-15) vs. Rutgers (14-16) Game Thread
Pretty graceful stumble at the end. Even the head coach leaving it all out on the floor today. If that was me, I probably stay down with a broken hip or bruised ribs.
While Maryland may very well beat the brave 8 tomorrow by 30 (we have to run out of gas at some point, right?). I give the team a lot of credit for their effort tonight.

I'd bump NQS to 2.
I'd also find a spot for the first game against Florida Gulf Coast, probably number 5 for me.

How about Pete Bell? I heard he's learned from the recruiting mistakes he made at Western University. Might want a chance at another D1 job.
