J-Law quickly vaulted up my list with how genuine he greeted my bro and I after such a painful defeat in Memphis. He was so kind and gracious with his time (while his own 'bro' waited...) that I leaned in for a hug. He wished us well on our journey home. Wow, that's an impressive young man. He could have been surly and sulked, he chose to be a great human being. And that means a lot to a big NU fan, I'll sing his praises as long as I live. That's a good dude, J-Law. GBR Always.

So far the only departure that I did have on my way too early depth chart for next year was Blaise. And that’s just because I wasn’t sure if any coach other than Hoiberg would give him a scholarship and honor it at this point, and we’re gonna need a few good locker room guys who are ok with being on the scout team.

That's basically my same thought process. We'll always have that magnificent comeback this season against UW (well, it happened the prior yr. too) but this past season CJ literally willed the team to victory with elite shot-making in that 2nd half. Thing of beauty against those pesky Badgers. GBR Always.

I was really looking forward to NU-KSt. Too bad that Bolt doesn't tend to re-schedule, that's the one worth doing tbh.

The conversation over in recruiting about which guard spot Janowski is going to slot into helped me solidify how I feel about the portal this year. I thought I wanted someone who can get to the line, and someone who can defend at the basket.

Now, I’m just hoping we are able to get guys we need to fill all the roles on the team, whether they’re the highest rated or not. If Fred and company see them fitting in a role, I want them. Come the first game, I don’t want our starting lineup to have anyone playing out of position because we NEED them to.

Last off season we were really one, maybe one and a half deep, at the point guard spot. That one player was ruled ineligible around August (?) and we didn’t have a solid backup plan, and had Lawrence as our starting PG. He did as well as could be expected given the situation. But I don’t want him, or anyone else, in that situation this year.

There will always be injuries, suspensions, and in the NIL age players could bolt at anytime. I hope through the portal this year, we’re able to build a roster that is robust to the inevitable player getting hurt, suspended, leaving etc. I think about how much it felt like our NCAA chances were gone when we thought Gary tore his Achilles. I don’t want a single incident like that feeling like we can’t overcome it.

Kudos to the coaches for milking 40 minutes of PG play out of a few different players and still getting us to the dance. Let’s go build a roster now that can just work on getting better together, instead of having to learn how to play new positions.

Huh? Michigan is not good this year, Ohio St and Indiana are in free-fall, and we're playing most of the best teams in the league, at least based on RPI so far. Rutgers is probably better than all the teams he mentioned, other than Maryland, and we have to go to New Jersey. NW on the road this weekend will be no picnic. Odd take.

It's a scheduling 'gift' in terms of having a chance to keep our RPI high, but it's not a gift in terms of trying to win the league. Iowa got that. They get Rutgers and NW at home, they don't play Maryland or Indiana. They do have to come to Lincoln. Now, Iowa's schedule doesn't look quite as soft as it did in the preseason, but it's still a far easier slate in terms of trying to win the league vs what NU has.

Maryland has to go to NU, Rutgers, and NW. They don't play Minnesota. They may end up with the toughest schedule.

Big week on tap - a win at K-State would look really good on our resume by the end, as KSU (and KU) are going to continue to get a nice Big XII bump in the RPI all season. And I can't imagine NW is going to stay Q1, but they're vastly improved from a year ago, which is stunning considering the turmoil they've had in that program. Even winning Q2s at NW is helpful, thanks to it being on the road.

Big opportunity to go on the road & truly establish ourselves as a regional host contender this week.

This is a schedule to this point that gives a northern team a chance to host a regional, even if we lose a few of the projected Q1 games to Q2. Even our B1G opponents should help us in RPI, based on who we play on the road and who we miss. Huge jump by C of C the past two weeks has been a big help to our RPI.

As far as the back end, Minnesota did its part this past week to get far away from Q4, and now we need Indiana to get it's sh*t together at least a little bit to limit our Q4 games as much as possible.

We're at the point in the season where we're trying to string 3-1 weeks. If we can go 3-1 every week from here on out, we're going to be around 41 total wins and we'll be around 18 B1G wins, which often is enough to win the league. With this impressive start against a pretty salty schedule, we put ourselves in a position where we don't need a bunch of unbeaten weeks.

Stringing 3-1s isn't easy, and we'll probably have a clunker of a weekend at some point -- hopefully not this week, as this will be a tough one. But we've done a helluva job to this point to put ourselves in this spot. Most years, we're hoping to string 3-1s at the start of B1G play just to have a shot to win the league and to squeak into a regional, so this has been a tremendous start.

Interesting how we seem to have so many players that come in as somewhat marginal guys and come out with us saying "man I'm gonna miss that guy".  Says a lot about the development abilities of our coaching staff.

Makes me excited for our future thinking about that.

Finding one's identity is certainly a take. Building off one's success is another take. Honing the team around the best of the best we just saw in Memphis seems more than prudent. No one's saying that NU will completely change the paradigm. A slight adjustment needs to be made, that's why I say that Juwan is likely replaceable more than BRICE or RIENK. NU needs a dude or two who can unequivocally get a bucket at the rim, often that wasn't Juwan. Allick tried to be a dude, but a few times he just seemed to fall slightly short of that task. Not due to effort or anything inherently wrong. Elite athleticism can be coupled with elite shot-making and elite passing. They're not mutually exclusive. I think Fred & Co. will find a way to make the team better and more athletic at certain spots. Obviously Keisei was a unique guy, so maybe NU needs a 6'-5" shooter who doesn't have to take such difficult shots because the taller, more athletic dude can just rise up & shoot it.

Fair enough. I don't know how much longer the Cook fam et al will be around, that's what I was referring to. I wasn't trying to diminish their roles as much as wondering who will be the next leaders to step up in the Husker Kingdom, and I suspect it will be a much younger crowd who might want the vision that Trev had laid out for S. Stadium... just ruminations I've had, that's all... appreciate the clarity on the current state of affairs with the Peeds et al. I should have been more clear on why I brought up the 'old blue-hairs'.

It's fun to talk about a return of KT30, but I highly doubt that it happens. In fact, NU needs to assume he's not there... and somehow find a way to make room if he suddenly becomes a 6th super-duper senior. I wouldn't hate it, but I ain't losin' sleep over it occurring. Man, what a concept: Language as an obstacle. It's not the worst argument, especially at a remote JUCO with Billy 'Clyde' Gillespie as his coach, who should elicit empathy from the wonks for the kid already.... dare to dream. lol
