I gotta be honest. There are a lot of people out there to worry about and care about and hope they're doing well and worry for if they're not. I don't wish for anything bad for Cam, but I'm not going to pretend to care where he goes or what he does from here. He doesn't seem to care enough to make sure that he doesn't make bad decisions and get suspended, so I'm not going to give more of a shit than he does. That might sound harsh, but I'm just being honest. I have a little bit of care fatigue right now and I'm a lot more concerned about all the bar and restaurant owners and workers (among many others) who don't have a livelihood right now.

All I can say is it's good to be back. Good to be able to enjoy warm showers again. Looking forward to all the off-season improvement our returning players are going to have. I'm especially looking forward to the improvement in free-throw shooting acumen by significant rotation players like Dachon, Jervay and Cam Mack.

Now, let me dig into some of the threads I missed out on and see how the season went.

This thread isn't about Nebraska Basketball, but, maybe there are some parallels.

I want to give an update on my son Seth's health.  For you new to the board, he has a condition called MDS--basically it's a form of leukemia.  His body has an inability to produce red blood cells.  This disease normally attacks the body's ability to produce white cells, but not in Seth's case.  He's an anomaly there.  Let me cut to the chase:  A new drug was approved for the treatment of MDS and Seth has been on it for the last 9 weeks.  We didn't know if insurance would cover the cost ---$2000 or more a month.  They did.  Since his last transfusion two weeks ago, his red blood cell count has actually risen.  That's never happened in the last seven years!  Thanks for all your support and prayers!

As for Nebraska Basketball?  They'll be fine.  The mountain of low performance is a one year deal.  I can't wait for next year, and the rest of the years in the Hoiberg tenure!

I wouldn’t call it spinning.   It’s just reality.   Way too many are in denial about how bad it was after 20 years of Perlman trying to run the athletic department, and several years of his minion Eichorst and his ridiculous choice of a head football coach.   Also in denial of how hard it would be to get back to respectability.

    I agree HB!

Our fan base needs a reality check as to where our basketball and football programs are and where. When Moos was hired our football program was in the bottom 4 of the conference. Our fan base fails to grasp how bad things were. Everything for administration, nutrition, strength and condition, culture, talent evaluation etc. We were bottom feeders. That cannot be flipped in 2 or 3yrs. Nobody can flip that in 2 - 3 yrs. This is a long term building project that is going to require years of talent infusion and depth and that's if everything goes as planned. I get a kick out of people who say they are going to give up their tickets. Go for it. Don't let the door hit you on the butt on your way out the door and don't come back. A culling of our our fan base is long overdue.

The sell out streak is not real. Corporate sponsors buy unsold tickets. Lots of them. Everybody in the media knows this is true, but they can't say so publicly for fear of hurting the feelings of the fan base. The sell out streak is the 3rd rail of this program. It feeds into the collective ego of the fan base. Take that away and you take away the superiority complex of the fans. We are the greatest fans because we keep coming to games and selling out Memorial Stadium blah blah blah. It needs to go away officially to humble a fan base that desperately needs to be humbled.

My bona fide on this is that a buddy of mine and I each have pair of season tickets One pair in row 22 of the north end zone the other in the first row of the upper east balcony. We each have our own for family and friends. There a times when we can't hardly give them away. The secondary market on the street is $5! Many times they have gone unsold on stub hub for a 1/3 of the face value. From those upper balcony seats you can see the entire landscape of the crowd and what sticks out always is all of the areas of empty seats. Lots of them. Students don't even fill up the student section. University knows that they can't take them away and sell them to the general  public because no one will buy them. Every wonder why stadium capacity went from around 92+ K to to about 88K? To protect the sellout streak. I wouldn't be surprised if the stadium capacity was shrunk to around 85K in the next few years to further protect the ego of the fan base.

As an aside the student section for the NWU game on Sunday (senior day) was about as bad as I've ever seen. Large empty areas of seats behind the benches. Not a good look.

    Devaney 1, Moos 2, TO 3.
Each one of them have done, are doing, good things.

Devaney was forward thinking enough to hire TO and took a chance on Nee and it paid off. He was also very fiscally sound. He kept the AD in the black and devoted the most  resources to the most important things. Think of the weight room and the building named after him that is still in use today. He also contributed important intangibles. He will always be #1 in my book no matter what anybody who follows him does.

Moos is at 2 because the book is still out on his hires although from purely a perception and fan base unification standpoint they are important. Our fan base has been extremely divided for a very long time. His hires had to be home runs. They had to check all of the boxes and for Football and Basketball they have certainly done that. He has taken a page out of the BD model and allocated the most resources to where they need to be allocated. Despite what people think he is not ego driven. If he was he would not have made the hires that made knowing that some people would view those hires as a no-brainer, that anybody could have made. I can promise you that neither Frost nor Hoiberg would  have come here if we had a typical empty suit as an AD i.e Byrne, Pedersen, Eichorst.

TO is very important, because from a financial perspective he brought us back into the black. Pedersen had cooked the books and we were in a financial mess when TO took over. Many people don't realize how bad it was. Most importantly, his name, and his name alone got us into the BIG. If as the AD, he was't involved, we would not have been asked into the BIG, which has set us up financially for a long time into the future. Don't think there is a PBA without TO either. He made some very strategic moves along with his backing of the PBA being financed with public/private money, and in Lincoln people know how difficult it is to convince people to do something like that. His hires, while not program changing set us up well for what we have now. Pelini, like him or hate won games. Miles got us to an NCAA tournament which somewhat reinvigorated interest in the program. Nothing that follows would be possible if not for TO, similar to if we don't have The Bob nothing that follows is possible.

Hankins isn't a former Nebraska football coach, player, or AD at another school.  Hiring someone without that sort of background regardless of whether or not he was on that track at Iowa would be out of the ordinary and if any current coach is going to have influence over it, it's Frost.
