  1. I also agree with the thought of going zone, especially since OSU was out of time outs. Miles should've broke huddle and lined up in man to man defense and then called timeout and switched to the zone. Not sure if Buckeyes have a go to zone out of bounds play but showing the man and coming back out in zone may have been enough to confuse them.
  2. I posted this in the game thread. This loss goes directly to whoever designed the out of bounds defense on game winning shot. The ball was being taken out of bounds at a point where Jacobsen has to cut off the angle so that Buckeyes can't have a lay up. He needed to be playing off the inbounders left hand about 5-6 feet and in line with the basket. This cuts off any lay up chances and also takes away any long passes that way as backboard is blocking any potential for a long cross court pass. And by playing off it also gives him time to read and possibly knock down/interecept a pass in that direction. In any last second defensive situation you want to force the offense to catch the ball moving away from the basket so the defense should've been forcing any potential shooter towards the OSU bench. I could've handled getting beat by a 15+ foot fade away but letting them drop the ball in the basket is unacceptable. I don't blame Watson at all. If Jacobsen is in the above described defensive position the pass can't be delivered to that spot and in bounder has to look for another option. This one falls directly to whoever gave defensive instructions in the last time out.

  4. Anybody else concerned about Gill returning at full speed? According to what I've read he can't resume normal activities for 3 months and sports activities for 4-6 months. And there is no guarantee he comes back full speed. There could also be a little bit of a mental block on his "trusting" the knee. For some reason I just have bad feeling about this injury.
  5. The point I was trying to make was the start time may have affected the crowd demographics. On Thursday, people with young kids probably didn't bring them because it would be late when they got home so brought someone who was more likely to make some noise. While on Sunday those same people brought their wife and/or kid(s) since they would be home before supper.
  6. I try to stay in the game but I'm just too damn old (low 50's) to try and yell the whole game. At the Iowa game there were 4 guys in early 20's ahead of me and 2 in mid to late 20's behind me that were really into the game and didn't give a dang if anyone told them to sit down. Today I had a guy with his 3 sons all probably 10 or younger ahead of me in those same seats and a 30 year old guy with an old (80's) guy with him who sat the whole game behind me. And the 30 year old was complaining because Jordy kept shooting with his left hand. Also noticed more really young (10 and under) kids around me today. Maybe since Thursdays game was so late that nobody brought their kids out and so more people used todays game as more of a family outing. Did have husband and wife 2 rows behind me and that gal was cheering the whole game. She had good verbal jab at the officiating that made me laugh but can't recall what she said.
  7. I really enjoy coming back and reading the game thread after attending the home games. It's amazing at how those that are watching on tv or listening on radio are feeling the same emotions that those of us at game are experiencing. After watching the game again I get even more wound up at the 3 guys that called themselves officials. I want to comment more but I'm just going to enjoy the win over the "Idiots Out Walking Around".
  8. Seemed like the crowd was into it when NU made run at beginning of 2nd half only to go dead after the run ended on Iowa timeout. And then they got back into it after Watson hit a deep 3 right after Jok made one. The overtimes were very back and forth momentumwise. Hell, I threw my coat down about a half dozen times thinking we were beat/thinking we had it won.
  9. After rewatching the game (crapfest reffing contest), Bardo got an explanation. Bardo was told and says, "The shot was up in the air and the foul was called so the basket counts." By that explanation none of the dumba** refs even saw the ball get tipped in. If anyone wants to check to see if I'm understanding it right and they have the game DVR'd it occurred with 1:51 left in 2nd OT.
  10. Because you feel scorned and truly believed AWIII was going to be a difference maker. But like a cheating spouse he went where he thought the grass was greener only to find out his new lover has credit card debt, a jealous ex and won't shut up.
  11. Wahoo and coach Kevin Scheef use a lot of 1-3-1 and have had success with it. Somehow they make it look like cross court pass is open but get a kid to step in front and steal it. Humphery St. Francis and coach Eric Kessler use it and are so quick that when someone tries to penetrate they tip the ball away or get dribbler in a bad position that creates turnover. Both teams use their athleticism and fundamental skill set to their advantage. I realize I'm talking high school and they don't have the length and athleticism that division one schools have but they have adavantage (I believe) because most schools play man-to-man at high school level in Nebraska. Teams may have played a lot of games seeing strictly man-to-man and all of a sudden they are playing against a well run 1-3-1 and struggle because their scout team doesn't imitate it even close. Sorry to turn this into a high school thread.
  12. A hs coach who liked to run a 1-3-1 said the best way to attack it is at the elbows because you are forcing 3 guys to make a decision. If those 3 aren't working in sync or understanding what others are doing it can leave people wide open. Before the 3 pointer was introduced teams would pack it in with 2-1-2 or 1-2-2 defenses and force teams to beat them with long 2 pointers. But If you noticed when Roby got ball versus Indiana he created problems with his length and ability to put ball on floor creating openings in the zone or finding open outside shot. A zone needs to be attacked from inside out.
  13. Not to mention his attitude influencing them and how they treat and work with teammates.
  14. I've always been a fan of switching defenses. Even if it just for a possession or two. Gives the other team something to work on. And even if you only have 1 guy on other team get confused it helps. And maybe Miles thought why not try it. Huerter was killing it from 3 and that 1 possession he stepped in and shot jumper from just behind elbow and missed. And maybe that got his mind to wondering instead of shooting. Had a coach tell me years ago the best way to slow down a talented player is to make him think. That split second of thinking can be huge.
  15. Just happened to go browsing around a Syracuse message board. One poster said "AWIII would've been better off staying at Nebraska." And another one was saying how their sanctions probably cost them a shot at getting Huerter. Interesting how things work out sometimes.
  16. Per Rosenthal it was 1979-80 versus Iowa St. and Colorado.
  17. To be completely honest I gave us 0% chance to come back. I so love being wrong!!
  18. With this bad officiating NU needs to be careful with that high screen. You know Teddy and Kelly are just waiting to call an illegal one on us.
  19. "Did the Americans give up when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?.... Who's with me"
  20. Geezus I can't take it anymore. Bonner is freaking idiot. It's a 12 point lead and Roby slipped out of bounds. How the heck do you not see that on replay.
  21. Announcers blowing about Dodd's 4 offensive rebounds. Every single one of them is from him missing point blank shot and getting his own rebound. That makes it much easier.
  22. Amazes me how a player can get bumped and forced out of bounds with no call and then there is minimal contact that doesn't affect play and it gets called.
