  1. Their press is porous. Not good at all. Even with our lack of ball handlers, we should be taking advantage and getting easy buckets.
  2. Gameday! I don't expect a win tonight. But I expect us to scrap and be competitive. Feels good to have that expectation again. Been awhile.
  3. Dalano got the start tonight and is playing great. 14 points at halftime.
  4. Cinderella. Bill Self was real high on Carte’Are Gordon before all his issues. 4 years later and he’s finally getting his first shot at Division I hoops at Grambling.
  5. CJ learned how to do a spin move in the offseason and now does it nearly every time he puts the ball on the floor, whether or not it's necessary.
  6. My hope is that in 2 years Frankie Fidler is going through senior night festivities at PBA.
  7. Could be looked at as a good thing. Not many kids decide to redshirt, develop their game and wait their turn. If that's his intention, I love it. His dad redshirted (after transferring schools) and was a much better player after that year of development. However.... I didn't like his body language on the bench in the Colorado game. And it'd be hard to imagine a kid who had celebrities and NBA players at all of his high school games is ok with sitting out a year and being out of the spotlight. You guys are probably right.
  8. Man, I hope we get Walker back soon. He and Griesel are very similar in their on-court demeanor. It will be really nice to have solid, steady, mature players at the 1 and 5 spots. Everyone else needs to work on making better decisions on both ends of the court.
  9. We are going to turn the ball over a lot this year. We are also going to force a lot of turnovers this year.
  10. This starting lineup went .500 in conference and finished 18-13 overall. They averaged 64 ppg. I'd rather watch an undersized, under-talented group like this scrap and claw and overachieve their way to some wins, and be very competitive against many ranked teams, than watch any of Hoiberg's and most of Miles' teams underachieve, get blown out by most ranked teams and finish near the bottom of the league. Bill Self, Kelvin Sampson, etc did not look forward to the dogfights they knew they'd be in for when coming to Lincoln, even though they knew they'd likely come away with a win. My hope is that becomes this team's identity. And I think it will happen. Cookie Miller 5'7" 7 ppg Steve Harley 5'11" 10 ppg Sek Henry 6'3" 8 ppg Ade D. 6'5" 12 ppg Balham 6'8" 2 ppg
  11. That's the one that got the ball rolling for us. I was going nuts in the second half when Petteway couldn't be guarded. Still remember the BTN announcer yelling, "OH MAN, THIS GUY IS NAILS!"
  12. He was on the bench in street clothes and looked to be in good spirits during the Colorado game. Not sure if that's relevant or not.
  13. I do like that Colorado team, though. I think they'll be solid. Apparently they handled Wyoming in their scrimmage a week ago. Wyoming is in all the preseason bracketologies as an at-large team.
  14. "Try and offer a rebuttal to the statements made if you dare... It makes you look dumber than you likely are." Ok, here goes. Keita wasn't a first team All-American. He wasn't even second team, third team, or honorable mention All-American. Shoot, he wasn't even first team All-Jayhawk Conference - 2nd team all-conference last year and did not make the all-conference team his freshman year. Even so, it is an anomaly when a JUCO player (even a first team All-American) excels at this level, or even plays at this level. It seems like your own lack of knowledge is the source of your anger here. 2020/21 first team All-Americans and what they did in the 2021-22 season: Deng Dut - Wyoming. 0.7 ppg 0.8 rpg Tyem Freeman - UCF. 5.0 ppg 2.1 rpg 0.9 apg Tyrel Morgan - Texas State. 4.2 ppg 3.2 rpg Rivaldo Soares - Oregon. 4.7 ppg 2.7 rpg 0.7 apg Matt Mayers - Robert Morris. 6.0 ppg 4.4 rpg Dalen Ridgnal - Missouri State. 2.7 ppg 2.9 rpg Linton Brown - Coastal Carolina. 3.0 ppg 1.5 rpg Malevy Leons - Bradley. 9.9 ppg 5.9 rpg Dashawn Davis - Oregon State. 10.9 ppg 3.1 rpg 5.5 apg. Then transferred to Mississippi State.
  15. To be fair, Kent asked the question quickly as Fred was leaving the table. Fred answered quickly, then walked away. A lot of thought wasn't really put into it.
  16. Preconceived notions. Husker hoops fans seem to have decided they hate this team prior to the season. Can't say I've ever seen that before. Usually it's the opposite. Like I said before, I think many of these negative nancys will fall in love with this team before too long.
  17. Colorado is clearly more talented, as expected. But we are fighting, as expected. Gary is gonna be a guy who we love one possession, but will make us want to pull our hair out the next possession. But for the second straight game, we've had zero energy until he and Dawson come on the court. Love how unselfish Dawson is. Ramel looked good in the first half. Can handle the ball, had a nice drive and kick and a nice pass to Oleg on the break for a layup. Griesel is a solid player. The announcers love him. Wilhelm and Bandoumel are painful to watch with the ball in their hands. We need CJ and Keisei to make shots.
  18. Ramel looks much more comfortable than he does handling and passing the ball.
  19. Bandoumel playing point guard looks like a JV player trying to handle the ball in a varsity game…
  20. So Juwan Gary could be a part-time starter for 6 seed Alabama but couldn't have a roster spot at Creighton or any team in the Big Ten? McDermott tried to get Griesel this past offseason. Baylor is a better player, but Griesel certainly outplayed him in the Summit League championship game. I believe he would get playing time on just about every Big Ten team. Ohio State was after him hard. Every Big Ten team would gladly take 6th year senior Derrick Walker who knows his role and shot 68% from the field last year. I'm not sold on Bandoumel yet, but he did start for SMU. Keita and Lloyd would still be on a Power 5 roster if they didn't come to Nebraska. Unless Shatel is assuming every one of Creighton's freshman is better than all of our players, I have no idea how he came up with that. I do think Creighton has 4 players that are probably better than all of our players. But Shereef Mitchell's 3 ppg would not translate to being our best player. It's also not about the best or most talented player. It's about the right player. That's why Kevon Looney, who's 6'9 220 lbs, can't jump over a phone book and can't shoot or dribble, starts over prototypical NBA big man James Wiseman. Derrick Walker is the type of guy that would start and average 6 and 6 on a championship contending team.
  21. Seems like the type of player we need to avoid at this point. High volume, very low efficiency (sounds familiar). Poor three point shooter. A lot of turnovers. Wasn't in the rotation on a bad Marquette team two years ago.
  22. I thought the same. That lineup (with Bando) has the potential to be extremely tough to score on. I also thought Keita moved well and has good balance for his size. At least compared to many of the bigs we've had in the past. Was impressed with the play where he caught the pass on the run from Keisei in transition, gathered himself without traveling, was patient and made the layup. Jordy and Yvan would've either traveled, fallen down or darted the shot off the backboard. He'll have some growing pains for sure, but he looks like he belongs at this level. That lineup did play well together yesterday. But our best lineup this year will definitely include Walker.
