One of my pet peeves is when the offensive player TRAVELS into contact, and a foul is called on the defender.

I wouldn’t give up on high schoolers entirely, but I know what I would do… only recruit them if they’re from around the area. Like 500 mile radius max.

The probability of someone like Lawrence from the east coast staying more than a year or two are so much lower than a kid who is within reasonable driving distance of home.

When there were two refs, I knew each of their responsibilities.   Now with three refs, I am unsure what the responsibilities are for each position.
But as the three refs rotate, they each shift responsibilities and they each have their own nuances and they each see things slightly different.  Then you factor in their egos, the speed of the game/players and the size of the players.
Contact should be a foul.  That is what the rule book says.  But hey, let's tweak the rule book and yet not change the rule.  We will simply judge whether or not the contact actually impedes the player, and oh yeah, it different if it is big on big, or small on small, and is completely different if it is small on big.  Traveling, oh yeah, I remember when it was a violation.  We will only call 3 seconds a couple times a year, we need to let fans know we can count...lol.
I keep hearing how difficult refereeing is, hmm.  Adherence to the rules is hard.  Thank gawd police don't have that issue, right?
If it is too hard for humans, computerize it.  It can be done.

Some athletes are able to return in six or seven months; a realistic time frame is about ten months.  So yes, softball is certainly a possibility.
I sort of said the same thing about Allison.  These players are tough.  They will do anything to push the time frame.  You almost have to hold them back.

I'll predict that we'll get better guys in the portal than those who left.

The scholarship is gonzo.  It certainly can be renewed if he comes back; but a return is not a given.  The school can say no go, and the player is left on the outside, looking in.  Or so I have been told.

The thing I wonder about this a few weeks later is that I find it odd that a guy who spent a lot of the year jacking up 3pt shots didn't take one against a team that gave up 3s at a higher rate than most anyone in the country.

That's how I see it also. Maybe not a push but "this is the ceiling of your role here in the program." Lawrence taking so long tells me he was debating it for a while and torn on it. It'll be very interesting where he ends up.

I’d guess >50% for sure. The successful transfers get all the attention, but seems like for every successful one there are 4 players who aren’t in the rotation at their new school. Everything goes in cycles and I do believe the newness of the portal will wear off and the negative side of it will come to light eventually.

Pretty soon the “new thing” that wins out for both players and coaches will be consistent player retention.

I said this in the other thread but you have to wonder either what we have lined up or what we think we have lined up for guys out of the portal because we're a school that all of a sudden has added winning to everything else we have to offer.  As much as JL would have a role on this team next season we absolutely have to be recruiting over him.  Seems like a guy after his first couple of years here who would look at a smaller school and less NIL in exchange for a situation where he's the priority.

Colin Cymbalista is finally showing what he can do on a baseball field. Next year he’ll be doing it at Nebraska.
The catcher/first baseman at Hutchinson (Kan.) C.C. committed to the Huskers on Sunday following a hot start that has the sophomore among the more well-rounded producers at the junior college level. He chose NU over finalist Penn State and a host of other interested schools including Gonzaga and Western Kentucky.
