hoop_head reacted to Huskerpapa in Texas A&M (19-12) vs. Nebraska (22-11) Game Thread
Really?
I thought the A&M coach was awful. They had an athletic and physical team; but schematicaly did nothing to leverage them. The ex-A&M player turned announcer kept referencing their injuries without referencing our injury. Amy never panicked and despite an underwhelming 4th quarter, pulled out the win. This Nebraska coach, who many bash, now has a team, that leverages the entire roster, in the top 32 in the entire country. A team that is now in the top 10% in the country. A team that had, arguably, it's best player in foul trouble within the first 3 minutes, yet prevailed.
I'm really, really unsure what people want or see when the see this Husker team compete. But for me, I see a few exceptional players typically perform at a high level, and I see role players who work hard plugging gaps and oftentimes excel when asked.

Oregon St won’t be as quick on defense. That really bothered us tonight.

This a clown show or a real game? This is just dumb.

The upside is that we can listen to our radio broadcast unlike the men's game. That was a darn shame. Edit: They've GOT to make the broadcast rights more reasonable for the small guys. I jumped in the car here in west Nebraska and I could only find one AM station airing the men's game.

This was a fun game to watch when the whistles weren't blowing. One of the whistles wanted to drag this sport back where it has been in prior years. Where we watch and see who the best actors are.
Coach Williams has sure put a fun product to watch on the floor. I'd watch a Nebraska game no matter what team I cheer for. Just good clean fun.
All credit to the players, the team, who really played a great game despite some challenges.

She's been a valuable member of this team and will continue to be. Hopefully She's the kind of teammate that just wants to win and is prepared to play.

Clearly this was a smooth transition and coach Goehle deciding to pursue ministry full time. We have a great coach and staff that represent NU very well. We had an excellent team last year pre injuries to Sam and the acl to weidner. We still were decent even after losing them. We had hardest schedule in history of NU womens bball. Played 9 games against teams that were a 3 seed or better I believe -Indiana Ohio state iowa Maryland and Virginia tech. That’s essentially 9 games against top 12 teams. Plus Drake Creighton Mississippi state and ku were all good too. Plus whole big 10 league was good for the most part. Nobody on this board wants to win more than the players and coaches. They would be first to say they want to and expect to do better. But some of the comments on this board at times are not well founded and speculation that we would go into recruiting season a coach short was nonsense. They have known about this transition and the new coach for several weeks I am sure. We have a fun product. Enjoy it

The B1G is getting tougher as these schools are making a serious investment in WBB.

Anyone who thinks Clark is going to need to worry about money or getting rookie WNBA money is pretty funny. She's going to make endorsement money.

Tried to root for CU but didn't like their team. Had to be a Czinano fan for the day.
The B1G has done well. Felt weird to see UCONN knocked out by Ohio State. And convincingly. You can't bring just your sauce in the B1G in any sport these days. You better bring the extra spicy every night.

I was at the game and it was great. One interesting lineup that we had towards the end of the first qtr was Maggie,Issie,Sam, Kendall M. and Jaz. They played together for about 5 minutes and went on an 8-0 run. Then Sam got hurt. Looked to me on replay it was either a high ankle sprain or possibly an achilles injury. The rest of the team really stepped up. These are good minutes for the younger girls as we advance and continue to practice. Looks like Kendall M. will be starting going forward. Great opportunity for her. Teams keep getting tougher. The most reliable player on our team right now is Issie. She is playing by far her best basketball this season.

Saturday morning rant...
When Trev was looking for a new head coach, replacing Scott Frost, he mentioned expectations. Among them were the level of work ethic, ability to recruit, organization/communication skills, etc. Most Husker fans are optimistic, Rhule is the guy. Are the expectations the same of other Husker head coaches?
That brings me to our WBB program. Why isn't it more transparent? What kind of work ethic do they bring to the table? Do they spend the needed time on the road recruiting? Are they hosting official visits? Are they building relationships with local coaches? Are they making official offers? Are they holding clinics, attending clinics? Do they have open practices? What are they doing? The lack of information, makes one wonder. What kind of effort is being made to improve this program? How are you going to increase interest, sell more tickets, if nothing is shared? Is this a lack of effort by media, or lack of access by staff? Hard to get on the Amy bandwagon, with so little information to go on.

I think Weidner's situation could be worse. She was back on the sidelines so hopefully just a bad bruise. Hopefully Coach can shed some light.

If folks missed the radio call with Matt and Jeff it's worth synching up with the BTN replay if you hadn't heard it. Same with Kent and Jake in the win over Creighton. Monkeys off backs indeed.

Generally yes, but this year, at DS, not so much. This is where the loss of Akana hurts us. We lost a server and defensive specialist in Knuckles. Hames can serve and dig well. Evans can't play front row at all. He's trying to fill with an outside hitter playing back row (Batenhorst), and doesn't bode well against elite 8 and better competition. He's missing extra back row chair parts this year.

Thought Markowski played her tail off. Absolutely put in work when the game was in doubt.
