  1. I also can't remember what my first game was but had to be in the mid-1980s as I was a huge Brian Carr fan. Some games I'll never forget.

    1. Danny Manning dribbling off his foot in 1988. I think the Jayhawks ended up okay that year. And Sports Reference says we finished 2-10 after that game.

    2. Being there for "the shot" against Michigan State. Was a freshman in high school. My all-time favorite team until this year.

"Talk about Nebraska being the Big Eight Conference basketball patsy ceased on Wednesday night, when the Cornhuskers -- courtesy of Beau Reid's three-point shot in the waning seconds -- outslugged Big Ten Conference bully and fifth-ranked Michigan State 71-69.

"'We believed we could win and went out to do the things that it took to win," said the senior guard, Reid. "It wasn't a fluke. We played them tough from wire to wire."

Was too young at the time to remember my exact first game - but would have been in the late 60's in the Colisseum.  Parent had season tickets.   Remember watching Leroy Chalk, Tom Scantlebury and Bob Grattop in those days.   Al Nissen too who is still in Lincoln I believe.

Man, was so hoping I'd see Bob Grattopp in this thread. My grandfather was his high school coach in Geneva. Heard so many wonderful stories about him. Always remember going to the Sports Center growing up and finding his lifesize picture on the wall with other all-conference players.

Neither "Not so Sharp" Sharp nor "3 Sheets to the Wind" Shatel know what they are talking about...period.

If there is a player that is wanted by our coaches we have enough to be very competitive. We are also not going to get into a bidding war for a 5* player. There is a certain amount of financial responsibility that has to go into NIL.

I am kind of starting to wonder if you DON'T want to do this to build a good, quality, consistent program. Starting throwing money and guys and they are start running the program. But get good, solid players in here that appreciate and get what Fred is doing and wants to build and you have something.

  4. This morning Joe has us, Northwestern and Michigan State all on the 9-line. That said, I am not sure Joe's bracket passes the bracketing rules as it would have us meeting Illinois in the Sweet 16. Was always my understanding that one of the bracketing rules was that unless a conference had more than 8 teams in the field, they would not meet until a regional final. He also has Texas and Kansas in the same pod (2 vs 10) and I don't think the committee would that either. This could have changed, however.

Almost looks like he is not even trying.

I’ve seen it stated that teams who host their conference tournament have those games counted as home games for the purpose of quads. And their opponents count it as a road game.

Does anyone know if this applies to Minnesota this year? It’s not in their arena but it’s darn close.

Believe they number they are using this year is three home games at the arena the game is being played. So Minnesota will be neutral. This appears to be affecting St. John's for the Big East tournament. All St. John's games will be home for the Johnnies.

Does that mean they'd most likely try and not put us in Omaha as like an 8-9 seed?

I do remember last year that Auburn was a 9 seed but played in Birmingham, which was a 2 hour drive from their campus.

While it happens occasionally, I'd be shocked if this occured. But you make a great point there about last year.

Yeah, I had already mentioned this notion on page one, it's also my understanding that CU couldn't play in Omaha but if NU were to be a top 4 seed-line they certainly would be available to do so. That'd be sweet to see, oh to dream! DREAM BIG!

This is true. Basically, the Selection Committee sends you to the site closest to you based on seed. So, you'd assume things like Purdue goes to Indianapolis, UNC goes to Charlotte (and likely Duke if they are a top four seed), Houston could be a Memphis or Omaha selection, the SEC champions is likely in Memphis as well. UConn likely to Brooklyn. You get the picture.

They also will AVOID a reverse home court advantage for those two rounds as well.

We gotta prove it on the road. We lost a huge opportunity at Rutgers so we're going to have to dig deep the rest of the way. Best opportunity is coming up at Maryland. They're talented and athletic but don't play as a team when I've seen them. Gotta get that one.

It would be nice to get that one, no doubt, but you don't have to get that one. Just gotta be tough and stay the course. It's really, really hard to win on the road in the Big Ten (and elsewhere). Of the Power Seven conferences just 14 schools have winning road records (and only one Big Ten school does, and Nebraska beat that school at home).

I might have shared this before. If so, I apologize.  Starkweather's route to Wyoming was on Highway 34. No I 80 back then.  My family had a farm and a farmhouse right on Highway 34, just outside of Hampton. They drove right past our house.  I say "our" me being a gleam in Dad's eye.  😉 .  You just never know.

There was an old story that went around that Starkweather ate a Helen's. Don't know if it's true or not.

I think it's important though that he maintains in the same role. I don't think this "works" if he starts. Then he has expectations and needed statistical output. Coming off the bench as a back-up PG fits him nicely. Interject some serious energy, dog a guy defensively, attack the paint, maybe hit a big shot, etc...

Sam is the definition of what kind of basketball player you want coming off the bench. Defender, energy giver. And might make the team BETTER when he is in the game.

Don't recognize the player or the uniform.  The gym looks like  Hordville, but I don't remember windows in that gym. All I know the acoustics were horrible and that place was loud. The only other possibilities are Marquette, Bradshaw and the piece of crap gym in Monroe.  By the looks of the people in the stands, I'm guessing this had to be in the late 60's to very early 70's.  I believe it was 1972, Hampton got new uniforms which had the number inside a circle with a vertical stripe running through it. Did the Baltimore Bullets have that jersey? Anyway, thanks for the walk down memory lane!

Truly amazing uniforms. We were STILL wearing these in junior high in 1989. Eickhoff wouldn't get rid of them.

  12. I loved watching this game last night. 😉 One thing I am very curious about going forward is how Fred is going to handle Keisei in these games with physical teams. I thought Keisei played well, I love his moxie (even if over the top every once in awhile). But it't not often you get a great win like that and your leading scorer was -3. That says a lot for the rest of our dudes and how they played. I feel like we definitely guard better when 30 is out and most of our winning run came with him on the bench. Please don't take this as a knock on 30, love him to death.
