I don't know if this is what you are talking about as well, but based on information that I have heard a while back, I think it's ok to still be critical of Moos and his handling of some situations during the Miles tenure.  I think you can be critical of Moos and his handling of situations during the Miles tenure while also pointing out that this was a great hire for the basketball program.  It doesn't have to be an either/or.

Hoping. But what the heck. Arizona could be swept up in the FBI thing. Hoiberg was away from the college game just long enough to likely not have been even potentially an object of investigation and represents a safe landing spot.

Further, his NBA experience means he has cred; his being a new hire means he’s not likely going anywhere for your entire college career; his proximity to your hometown means your family could make it to some games.

Hoiberg has some things to sell here, and there’s no ink on an LOI at this point. Why not?

I was in a group chat with some Creighton Fans (sorry, I am a Prep grad) and the consensus was Nebraska overpaid. After about the 3rd text containing WAY OVERPAID, I replied .    "yeah we could have bought a lot of Brian Bowens for that...."

No. It would be like Scott going to the NFL and failing and then going to Iowa state to be their football coach while we are stuck with a guy taking us to the Alamo and outback bowl every year after Scott had just missed taking us to the college football playoff because Adrian Martinez broke his foot in the B1G championship game.

I understand their feelings a little. It would be sad to see you beloved player/coach go somewhere else and be stuck with a mediocre guy that isn’t half the coach your ex was.

I’m not going to apologize for supporting Miles until the end.  He deserved it.  He is part of the reason today happened.  He was a good dude.  More than that, he was a Husker through and through.

I said at the beginning of the year that it was NCAA or bust for me and that if we did get rid of Miles, we had to have a home run hire.  We managed that.  It’s a good day for Nebraska basketball.

Now its put up or shut up time for Nebraska.  There isn’t no “hope” Fred can get it done.  Fred has to get it done.  We HAVE to give him time.  We HAVE to take out bad lumps without jumping off of a cliff.  This has to be the time for us to get it done.

With being a great hire comes expecting great results.  This is uncharted territory.  Will be a fun ride.

I should add there have been guys who I thought were going to be and/or deserved to be fired but I've never liked joining in the public piling on.  After we lost to Creighton in Barry Collier's last season, I knew he was gone and was astonished when the AD didn't fire him.  But even though I was on-board with canning Collier, I got sick and tired of the constant "fire this guy" comments on every thread after every game.

I loved Doc Sadler, but it got to a point where he had no recruiting momentum and wasn't bringing in the players he needed in order to compete at this level. And while I thought he was a good coach in basically all other respects, I knew his recruiting had become his undoing here, and I accepted that he was going to be on his way out.  Still, I refused to join in the public celebration of a guy getting fired.

I think Tim Miles had this program on the cusp of getting where we hoped to go.  Some people want to call me a "Miles apologist" even when I've readily admitted he has holes in his game. And I wasn't about to be satisfied trading Tim off for some other rising mid-major-type guy to come in here and fiddle around for 6 years before being shown the door.

As I said above, this is the first basketball coach we've hired in my lifetime who we aren't pinning our hopes on potential. This guy's been there.   He's done it.  And I'm good with that.

I said in the past and I'll say it again: I back the guy who's currently at the helm of the program I've been cheering for since childhood.

I'll miss the hell out of Tim Miles. I think he was a great face to put on the program.  But Tim will be OK.

Looks like Hoiberg is the guy now.

Like Frost, there's a Lincoln connection.  You'd expect him to be a "cultural" fit in the sense that he would know and understand the kind of people we are who go out and cheer this team on, game after game, season after (heart-breaking) season.

I guess the biggest thing for me is that there's no wondering if he can do it at this level.  This is the first coach we've hired in my lifetime who's actually done it at this level.  So, this is not a case of trading Tim Miles for whatever's behind door #3.  We've picked up more of a known quantity this time around. I think that's a good thing.

Time to see what he can do. Beginning with recruiting.

Wow, amazing story. What a night!
Regarding the Miles country club dinner, I may have attended that with you. Tim was great in that setting, and treated the fans awesome with great insight, inside info, and shared his basketball knowledge (contrary to the loud minority, he knows his X's and O's).  I believe donors tried to have these dinners with Doc and Collier - just can't imagine that it would have been any fun...
The good news for the future is that Miles has left everything in good shape.  It's not like new coach is taking over 5 or 10 win team.  22 wins and 19 wins, just one step short of tournament.  The new coach doesn't need to "turn around" anything, just needs to take the next step.

I've been searching for a thread to add my thoughts...

I am truly disappointed in how this has ended for Coach Miles. I wanted him to succeed in the worst way and it pains me to no end that sometimes, the good guy doesn't win.

Coach Miles has done more for Nebraska Basketball than any coach in the past 20 years and I sincerely like the man. I've had a chance to meet him and he will always be a part of simultaneously the best and worst night of my life:

Back in 2014, I was invited to a private dinner at a country club in Omaha where the guest speaker was Tim Miles. He was phenomenal that night, telling stories and genuinely having fun. At the end of the night, I had a chance to ask him about his version of the motion offense. 15 minutes later, he had diagrammed multiple options for me on the table using empty beer bottles. It was fantastic and something I will never forget as long as I live.

It turns out though, that 15 minutes was something I couldn't really afford to give. Returning home that night and pulling into my garage, I was approached on either side by 2 men pointing guns at me. Without going into a lot of detail, they forced themselves into my apartment and ransacked the place while I lay face down on the floor.

Like I said, the best night ever talking ball with Coach Miles turned into the worst night of my life, wondering if I was going to be shot in the back of the head.

I wanted to share that story because it is an incredible memory, both good and bad. Thank you Coach, for all you have done for Nebraska basketball and for providing fans like me more access to the program than I ever dreamed possible. While it didn't work out in Lincoln, I look forward to cheering for you at your next stop.

Like it or hate it, that's his job. If he fires Miles and hasn't gauged anyones interest, then we're sitting here holding our pud. Everyone said if we can't upgrade with a proven winner then keep Tim, well how would Moos do that if he has no idea who would have interest in the open Nebraska job.

    Statement from Coach Tim Miles:
“Thank you to the University of Nebraska for a remarkable journey. It was a great honor to represent this University the past seven years. I am extremely proud of what we were able to accomplish during my tenure, most notably developing relationships with so many fantastic people associated with the Huskers.

“A special thank you and deep gratitude to our players and parents who have been with us and supported us over the years.  Thanks to our coaches, legends, alumni and to all of the support staff who interact with our program on a daily basis and made the experience one I will always cherish.

“To the fans, students and supporters who make Pinnacle Bank Arena such an incredible venue, much respect and thank you as well.

“My family will always be cheering for the Huskers and look forward to seeing #Nebrasketball make history in the near future. GBR!”

He's been nothing but classy about this -- acknowledging it's a big boy business and saying nothing bad publicly about Moos whatsoever. I hope Husker fans can be as classy if/when he departs.

Please don't be the jerks some of you were when Doc Sadler got fired.
