I know yiubare looking into the agreement on if Coach will get his bonus money for being coach of the year. PAY HIM! His peers chose him and the media winner even said Tim was the guy. Coach Miles has earned it and I want to thank him for everything he has done. He has jolted this program and fan base to a level I never imagined. Walking in and out of the raikyard yesterday was like a football game day...it is 30 hours later and I am still on a high over this win. This guy gets it and we want him a very long time. I get Tim Miles has tons of money and other bonus money coming. Pay him to reward him for never allowing a grouobifbkids to be defined tobwhat the "experts" say. Tim took this team and had some challenges early...he stayed the course, they played together and us always is 100% their motto. One of the most special things I saw last night was the reaction to Peltz proposal... The entire team before the biggest game of their lives were there as a family to greet he and his fiancee. I have seen many husker teams and been apart of a few on the inside. There has lacked a family vibe ....we have that now and that is because of Tim, his coaches and his captains. It starts at the top and I am proud that the coach of the year in the big ten is our guy.
Thanks Coach for a year for the ages and let's not stop now!
    Go Big Red!

Those of us back here knew you were getting a very special coach in Tim Miles. I think we're all amazed at what he has accomplished in so little time. A lot of us still stay in touch with Tim and are closely following your team as a result.
We waited until Tim's 5th year at CSU to go dancing. You only had to wait two years. But you know what's cool? The best is yet to come.
    Enjoy the ride!

I am sure glad I get to find out.

    A record breaking night:

1st win ever against the Hoosiers in Bloomington in 5 tries
    1st 10 win conference season since 1999
1st winning record in conference since 1999
1st upper division finish guaranteed since 1999
1st time we've won 3 conference road games in the same season since 2009

I guess you could say we should party like it's 1999!

After getting home from the game, we found we had received a letter from the Husker athletic department. As a long time season ticket holder, I made the only logical conclusion based on years go experience and told my wife "probably an order form for a possible NIT home game."
    WRONG!!!
It was an order form for possible NCAA tournament games! While I know we have a long ways to go to make the dance, how exciting it was to FINALLY receive a letter talking about the dance! And yes, if we make it, we are going! It doesn't matter where we play, I'll be there dressed in red and yelling "Husker Power" during the opponents starting lineup introductions.
Full disclosure, there were NIT forms in the envelope too but I'm hoping we don't need those!

My wife and I share season tickets with another couple and yesterday was their turn to have tickets, so I went to buy a single ticket and was about ready to leave to watch it at home as there were numerous people looking for tickets and no one selling anywhere! Right when I was about to leave, a man with his wife and daughter asked if I just needed one ticket and I said yes. He said he was buying them from a scalper and he was paying $60 each for four tickets. He asked if I would pay $50 and I swallowed hard and said yes. This was the best $50 I ever spent!

Let me back up quite a ways. The first time I remember Nebraska basketball was in 1958 when I was 8 years old. They played in the old Coliseum. The game I remember best was December 12, 1964. Number 1 Michigan U. came into town and they had Cazzie Russell. They finished the year second to UCLA. Nebraska finished the season 10-15 overall with a 5 and 9 record in the Big Eight.

My dad and I sat in the very last row up at the top of the Coliseum. The only lights in the place were over the court and there was a thick haze of cigarette smoke in the building that you had to look through. As I recall, MU led from the very beginning but only by one, two or three points, never more. There was almost no room for the players to inbound the pass on the sidelines and NU fans were pulling the leg hairs of the MU players when they would inbound the ball and that caused more than one turnover during the game.

Cazzie Russell had scored 29 points (he averaged 31 for the year) and MU had a 1 point lead with just seconds to go. Fred Hare, a great but troubled baller from Omaha Tech got the rebound and dribbled the length of the court and put up a 15 footer that bounced around the rim and out. However he was able to rebound it three feet from the basket with his back to the basket and he threw it up over his head facing directly away from the basket over Oliver Darden who I believe who was 6'7. Hare was 6'1. The ball bounced on the front of the rim and then hit the back board and dropped in as the gun sounded in what has been called one of the greatest upsets in college basketball. Hare got kicked off the team and ended up playing for the University of Mexico, not "New Mexico", but Mexico the country for many years. I believe he was paid a tidy sum to play for them.

I tell you this because there hasn't been much to cheer about other than a year or two when Danny Nee was here but I have been a fanatical fan for 56 years. I went to Denver University to play D1 baseball and ended up living in Denver for six more years after I graduated. While there, I lived with two other high school buddies who were just as loyal NU football, baseball and basketball fans as I was. We would all get in my 68 GTO with a case of adult beverages and drive about 60 miles east out of Denver at around 5:30 at night on week nights until we could catch the KFAB signal. And we had to keep driving east to keep getting the signal. One night we ended up in Kansas by the time the game was over. We did this even in snow storms. God, we were stupid but dedicated Husker fans all the same! We went to every NU-CU game in Boulder and we usually won those games even when we were not very good.

I tell you this because I have suffered through disappointing season after disappointing season as a Husker fan and my four children have now suffered through a couple of decades of crappy basketball to and we are finally able to hold our head up high and enjoy the rewards of better recruiting, better facilities and better coaching!

When Petteway hit that running four foot shot off the backboard with his left hand against Purdue like it was nothing and when we had two alley oop dunks and when Bennie tied up Hammons twice and when Rivers swatted 3 or 4 of their shots away I had to almost pinch myself to see if I was dreaming.

This team really plays for each other. One of my co-workers has a friend who is a professor at CSU where Miles was coaching and he said that there are quite a few CSU fans that are Husker basketball fans because they live Tim Miles and what he did while there. We need to keep him happy here at good ol UNL!

Buglem reacted to PimpMario in Home court advantage; where does it come from? Do fans matter?
I was thinking about this last night after reading the board a lot.  People seem to think that since we are playing well recently and we are a "home court" team that wins against Penn State and Purdue are foregone conclusions.

So I started thinking about the concept of home court advantage where the advantage comes from.

First I thought about this team.  We are 11-1 at home.  But really we are more like 5-1 at home because aside from the Miami game all of our home non con games were against 150+ RPI teams.  Miami is 111 so it is not like they are exactly setting the world on fire.  But still we are 4-1 in top 100 RPI teams and that is pretty good.

Maybe we should just schedule some easy road wins next year.  Why not go to the Citadel if road record matters so much?

So I would say that we do indeed have a home court advantage.  Although I could see someone making the argument that we had more road games to start conference and that we may just be a good team now who can win on the road or at home.

The real question is why do we have a home court advantage.

Is it player sleeping in their own beds?
Is it knowing the rims, hoops and being accustomed to the depth perception when shooting in their home arena?

    Is is the fans?

    Is it the locker room?

Obviously it is some combination of factors.

On Big Ban Theory Leonard pointed out to Penny that "why do sports fans say "we won;" when people watch Star Wars they don't say "we defeated the empire."  I think the obvious answer is fans view themselves as an active participant in sporting events.

    Do home court fans matter?

That is what I really want you guys to expand on, do we matter and affect the game?

If we do matter than doesn't our attitude and feelings going into the game matter?  In other words, if we go to the game expecting to win isn't that going to affect how much we sit on our hands vs try to actively help the team?

Icedraggon, can't believe I'm getting draged into this, but here goes ...

    1.  The dismal of Correy Hilliard.  Where do you get the information that he wasn't involved?  In the cell phone.  And what makes you think that was the ony think he did wrong  He had two thinks he did wrong and got in trouble with polise but you just heared one.  So Miles had no choise in the mater.  Correy had too go.  If Miles just wanted to cleer space on his rooster, why din't he just get rid of David Rivers to?

    2.  Scheduling the Charleston Classic.  I agree this was bade because playing good teams a the Charleston classic helped our rpi and make us look better now since we didn't win all the games.  but beat Georgia and lossed to Massachuets.  So really that helped are rpi now but that only helps if we make the dance or the INT.  So if we win few more games then that was good that we went at Charletson because it helps our SOS but if we don't win few more games then we don't have to make NCAAs and then that's bad.  So that's bad because we could have won better against badder teams and give us a good record that has bad SOS all over it.  So maybe it was good going to charletson.

    3.  Not excepting trounemant offer.  Well, you half to remember it was not the same team last year that it is this year.  If we had went to trounement like CIB lsat year its Ubel playing and we play 7 guys and the only guys coming back from that group were benny Parker and Rivers and Ray and the tall guy who doesn't play to much.  And shavon.  Shields.  So it probably doesn't help to much that we play in a trouenemtn last yaer  If we could have played last year with Petway and Pitchford and Tai and al the knew guys, then playing in CIB would have been gooder than not but since we didn't have them I guess not.

    4.  Deverell Biggs.  You want to reserve judgment?  REally?  Why?  You already said it was wrong to dismiss Hillyerd but not Biggs?  Hillyard didn't do anything for us He just played few minutes frehman year. but Biggs scored points and so he ment something on this team.  If Miles didn't have reason to dimiss Hilyerd (2 criminal complaints) then why could he dismiss Biggs who only had one that he was given more hcnance after that.  Makes no since.  I think miles shuld have dimissed both Hillyard and Biggs because he was right to do it.  And thay did wrong stuff to so they should go.

No, that was never supposed to be fixed.  It was predicted on here going into the season that it would be even worse then Devaney due to the parking situation.  And the predicton has, of course, come true.

If everyone wants to let the fact that some fans leave early make them miserable, hey, go ahead.  You'll be pissed off for the rest of your lives, 'cause it ain't stopping.  (Kind of like me and the  refs  )  For me, I am focusing on how cool it is that after several seasons of having between 4,000 and 8,000 people watching the Huskers, we have well over 15,000 for every conference game, despite being a game out of last place, crappy weather, and every game being on TV.  Well done, Husker basketball fans!

    2. Pettaway was the worst player on the floor for the first half and he came out and hit 2 of his going right, high off the glass runners in crunch time. I respect anyone that played that bad to not be afraid of  failure and come out and want the ball in pressure situations. I've seen far better players wilt in those situations.
