Went about how I expected it to go. Our guys were not ready for that level of intensity and atmosphere.

Hope they learned something that will benefit down the road, although I can't imagine the next 2 will go any better. Hopefully we take a couple of baby steps in those games, because there weren't any today.

At least there's a little hope Friday. After all, Assembly Hall is our PBA East. 😁

Serious question...when Creighton vacates this win in a few years, will this retroactively impact the 2019-2020 HHC prediction contest?

    Whatever happens, happens.

We need a team that has chemistry, and I worry a bit that this team is lacking in that category.  Supporting evidence includes the necessity of an early season team meeting in the Caymans and the recent player departure.

I am not saying that this is Cam's fault whatsoever.  But i do get the sense that the players and staff are not all on the same page.

Nothing surprises me these days.  But I do believe the roster will look different again next season.

Mississippi Valley State will get through their payday games and start playing SWAC opponents so their margin might get better. Nebraska will start playing conference games in the most physical league in the country. So....

A buddy of mine went out to Manny’s Steak House in Mpls last night with Tim after the DePaul/Gopher game. Said Tim is doing great, loves the new job, & is just biding his time until he finds the right opportunity to return to Coaching.

Don't think there was a show last week due to Nebraska being on the Cancun trip

    Dec 2nd, 2019

    Show #5 - Hoiberg

Head Coach Fred Hoiberg gives an overview of the tournament

Caller John asks about FTs woes, former Huskers that were a tough matchup for HCFH as a player at Iowa St (Pike, Strickland), and finally asks for encouragement for the football team.
Caller Tyler asked about the resort (so he can humblebrag about being there) and asked about the team struggling in the 2nd game.  HCFH briefly talks abut the team meeting held after the second game.
Caller Chris asks about what does the staff do to keep the players focused when they have a big lead.
Sioux City Scott asks about Mack coming off the bench though specifically mentions he doesn't need to know why. HCFH talks about how he handled it well in game three and how he has been practicing well since the return from the Caymans.
Caller Tom asks HCFH about his thoughts on Mack crossing a guy over and pointing at him. HCFH thinks the team plays better with swagger but had a talk with Mack about it.

Greg and HCFH talk about the play of the centers and HCFH refers to Kevin Cross as being a 6'6". Went into detail about Cheatham and Burke stepping up lately.
Youth coach John asks HCFH about the mechanics of shooting.
Kyle in FIlley doesn't have a question but notes beating Creighton would be fun and just stops.  After a pause HCFH delves into Creighton on a high level and then notes Georgia Tech is the focus. Kyle then asks about what attributes he looks for in a recruit and who he is looking for in this cycle.  HCFH notes we have one scholarship open and then lists talent to play in B1G, athleticism to play fast, shooting, and then guys that come from winning programs.
Delved into Stevenson and the sit out transfers.
Finished up the show touching on the 2020 tournament at Myrtle Beach and then looking at the upcoming schedule and playing zone at the end of the South Florida game

If Stevenson is as good as we think/hope, would you rather have him:
    A. Play the remainder of this season, be a major contributor, & bump our win total from fair to middling. OR
    B. Redshirt & have two full years to play when Banton & Walker are both onboard & the entire roster has “earned their spurs” so to speak...
I’ll opt for B, tho I’m sure he’s ready to play right NOW & is tired of sitting around waiting in some kind of an NCAA Twilight Zone. Hopefully we’ll know soon.

Definitely was A&M, because Bill Byrne made a big deal out of it after he left NU. Nebraska had about a 17-point lead in that game, too. Horrible snowstorm that night....

Ohio State stole one at Nebraska when Glynn Watson fell down on an under-basket inbound play for the Bucks. That was fortuitous for them, indeed.

Yeah that's interesting.  According to KenPom:

    George Mason
    Patriots · Fairfax, VA
Home games played at EagleBank Arena (7,860, 146th largest in D-I) Home court advantage: 2.9 (238th in D-I)

    Nebraska
    Cornhuskers · Lincoln, NE
Home games played at Pinnacle Bank Arena (15,000, 29th largest in D-I) Home court advantage: 4.0 (18th in D-I)

Also interesting...one would expect an historically awesome, high fan support program like George Mason to appear above Nebraska in this list:

But they don't seem to be anywhere in the top ten.  Crazy.

Did Kavas get jumped by the Monstars on his way to Lincoln? His 3 pt shooting is down 15% from the last 2 years. If he gets on track and can hit those open looks our offense can open back up in a hurry. I'm not banking on that right now, but tomorrow I'm seeing shades of that Honolulu tournament during Doc's first year where NU went W-L-W, Doc got tossed in the second game vs Hawaii, and NU came back to win on the tourney's last day. Get the W tomorrow and NU did what it needed to do in the Caymans.

Hey!  Look at that, we got 3 W's in a row up there now!  But it's tough to get too excited about that yet, our Strength of Schedule rating is a pathetic 329.  The next couple of weeks is gonna fix the hell outta that though!

I may have spoken too soon about Penn State.  I guess I keep forgetting who their coach is.  These next couple games at Barclay's Center will tell us a lot more about the Nits.

Michigan State craps the bed (again) against Virginia Tech and stay at #1?  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It warms my heart to see Wisconsin continue their downward slide.

Ken has upgraded us to double digit wins now.  Projecting a 10-20 record.  That number is still gonna change as he hasn't added tomorrow's game into our schedule yet.  With all that said, here's today's KenPom update.

Nice of them to give the Mavs some love, but we beat Wazzu by 11, Omaha only beat them by 8, so by the infallible law of comparing scores, clearly NU is #1 in the state.

The Counciltucky Bluejays clearly are not part of Nebraska - just waiting on the Unicameral to do the right thing and redraw the state border.

Mr. Red reacted to basketballjones in uneblinstu’s postgame chatter: vol 12; 5 vs. Washington State
In the first half the guy defending the big was blitzing the screens (kinda trapping them), forcing defensive rotations on our backside, and a guard having to check the rolling big. We weren't doing... terrible... per-say, but it certainly wasn't creating any advantages for us and it was overworking us. In the second half the defender of the big just shadowed the ball while still staying relatively attached to his guy, until the guard could recover. Just took away any confusion and need to rotate on our part.

With Mack, they had him on a guy who couldn't shoot, so they stuck him in the middle of the lane while away from the ball, and let him check rollers and help drivers while everyone was recovering. Wash St did a poor job of adjusting to this. That guy should have been ball screening or cutting while Mack wasn't looking.
