They appear to be very meaty inside but may not be allowed to jump over us if we block out like some Big Ten refs often seemed to ignore.

Wonderful memories, guys. That's what makes sports important. Not being a native Nebraskan, I'll have to use the first game I saw at Allen Fieldhouse as my contribution. I went with my Dad to the NCAA regional, March 14,1959 when Oscar Robertson's Cincinnati Bearcats played Bob Boozer's Kansas State Wildcats. (K-State won in overtime after Oscar missed a free throw that would have won the game).

I'm going to step into it here. I don't know how the women's committee works, but imo the men's matchup was just a fluke. I've been tracking bracketology for weeks, and this matchup has been out there waiting to happen. I checked right after the Trev news and thought, "oh, boy."

The committee had a hard enough time figuring out who was in. Then it had to avoid matches through a couple rounds among Mountain West teams (4), Big Ten (3), SEC (2) and Pac 12 (2) in the 7-10 slots. Bracket Matrix had us paired with 9 seed Michigan State. Go up a line, and we're paired with Northwestern. Those don't work, so go down a line and ... TEXAS A&M.

Please try completing a seed list without regard to conferences and then get them to fit into a bracket while avoiding conference matchups for 2 rounds. If you think that sounds like too much work, then try doing it by committee. The committee members were up until 2 a.m. Sunday completing the field, and it's hard to believe they spent any time discussing how to arrange this matchup because it fit some kind of narrative.

Finally, what would be the motivation for the matchup?
Committee members hate Trev? Seems like he gets along well with his people, aside from the entire state of Nebraska now.
TV? I hate to break it to you, but 95%+ of the viewers don't know about Trev or care. His departure is a big story here and that's about it.

The women's process is not as transparent, and there aren't many bracketologists. But I'd guess their committee faces the same difficulties in the process and would not spent a lot of time on "interesting matchups."

Looking at the NIT schedule makes me glad that we weren't forced to go that route. Lots of unhappy teams playing with chip-on-shoulder attitudes (especially those huffy Big East elite types). I note that Indiana turned it's invitation down-yet another team we broke! I wonder why Pitino turned down a chance to play on his "home court" for the championship? Scared to lay a NYC egg?

Now I'm sorry I made the tongue in cheek prediction that we would be matched up with A&M. It sounds like they have two veteran guards who are twin Shannons and all of their big guys have vacuum cleaner arms to get all the rebounds. Yet somehow, I think this team will find a way to overcome. To all of you who are going to Memphis, drive carefully and be sure to say hi to the ghost of Elvis. Take along a copy of "Win it for..." to read between games.

I just wanted to say I am happiest for you guys (and others who I unintentionally neglected who have been following Husker Hoops for way more years than Matt & Scott & I).

EVERY SINGLE PERSON HERE - I feel great for ALL OF US.

But man... I'm so happy for those who have been around since Cipriano and Iba and even before.

I just wanted you guys to know I was thinking about you today leading up to the selection - especially you, Jimmy. I haven't met some of you but I consider you friends.

OK, off to watch a Nicholas Sparks movie with all this sap.

As soon as the Illini run into a group of referees who don't let Shannon act like an NFL running back their NCAA trip will be over. My own goal now will be to last longer than them in the NCAA tournament. But that's just me-and some sour grapes.

I agree about 1988, and not just because of KU. I remember the Jayhawk cheerleaders giving out pom-poms to the crowd before their game and watching Will Perdue scarfing down a big box of homemade cookies by himself like they were M&Ms as he sat in the bleachers after one of his games.
