jimmykc got a reaction from hhctony in I watched my first Husker basketball game ...
Wonderful memories, guys. That's what makes sports important. Not being a native Nebraskan, I'll have to use the first game I saw at Allen Fieldhouse as my contribution. I went with my Dad to the NCAA regional, March 14,1959 when Oscar Robertson's Cincinnati Bearcats played Bob Boozer's Kansas State Wildcats. (K-State won in overtime after Oscar missed a free throw that would have won the game).

Thanks, Dave! What a long, strange trip it's been. While you guys are in Memphis cheering on the Huskers, we will be here declaring and decreeing the Huskers going to the Sweet Sixteen! I've already started. A&M and Houston have no idea what's headed their direction!

We used to have a poster here named sideburns jones who was into mopping the floor. One of my favorites. I think @jimmykc took a hankering to him, also.

Quit messing up with all of our conspiracy theories! I suppose now you are going to claim we actually walked on the moon!

National Civil Rights Museum | At the Lorraine Motel Anyone with time to spare might want to check this out. Not exactly a pleasant experience but certainly of historical significance. The definitive book on the subject is Hampton Sides' "Hellhound On His Trail".

As another movie, "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance", states "When the legend becomes fact, print the legend".

NU was good that year and as I remember played in the NIT. I was privileged to watch them be beaten at Allen Fieldhouse that year 110 to 73 though. The rest of that KU team consisted of Delvy Lewis, Ron Franz, and Al Lopes, with sixth man Roger Bohnenstiehl. They would have beaten Texas Western in the regionals except for a phantom call of Jojo stepping out of bounds on a winning shot.

By far Cipriano's best team, from what I've read. I was only 5 at the time.

My first game in the Coliseum was the great Tom Baack, Grant Simmons, Willie Campbell, Nate Branch and Stuart Lantz team in 1966 against a Tex Winter coached Kansas St. That Husker team would have been an NCAA Tourney team and would have won a tournament game but only conference champions qualified. Kansas had JoJo White and Walt Wesley. It was fun for a High School Freshman to witness. Texas Western was the champion in 1966.

They appear to be very meaty inside but may not be allowed to jump over us if we block out like some Big Ten refs often seemed to ignore.

Wondering if KT will get grabbed and pushed and tripped like usual or will the refs let him play basketball?

Now I'm sorry I made the tongue in cheek prediction that we would be matched up with A&M. It sounds like they have two veteran guards who are twin Shannons and all of their big guys have vacuum cleaner arms to get all the rebounds. Yet somehow, I think this team will find a way to overcome. To all of you who are going to Memphis, drive carefully and be sure to say hi to the ghost of Elvis. Take along a copy of "Win it for..." to read between games.

Early dementia? That should make him eligible for a Big Ten ref next year.

For anyone wondering, he is either 64 or 65 years old now. Sounds like he may consider himself the Satchell Paige of referees.
