  1. To answer the col with a very obscure basketball reference, it is Lloyd Bernard Free's jock strap. And , by the way, all votes must be in before today's games to count. Adieu.
  2. I'm pretty sure Almeida will go for Brazil, Balham for France, Neimann for Germany, Van Pohlgeest for the Dutch, and Standhardinger for the country with the most public parks, but how about you?
  3. I think one of the observers may have an elbow deformity. Perhaps a closer inspection will be necessary.
  4. Or the big lump in the other one.
  5. But, every team we played has been better than the one before. Is Belgium better than Germany?
  6. I don't see Miles and McDerm really rooting against the other program. They both probably see the "rivalry" as being a good thing for basketball fans in the state and may play up that aspect. Sort of like fighters hyping the gate before a championship bout. This take is coming from one who comes from a state which has had both true rivalry hatred of other programs ( KU-KState, and "old" KU/MU) and "meh" rivalry KU/Wichita). So let the (head) games begin.
  7. Do not worry. Herr Doktor Klinsmann will sign your excuse slip.
  8. George Raveling appears to have landed an excellent gig after a number of underwhelming head coaching opportunities. Guess that means there is still hope for Kevin O'Neill. And ,yes, I came with a full bandoleer of potential biting comments.
  9. Mon Dieu! Sacre bleu! C'est incroyable. Le defense etait fromage Suisse!
  10. I wonder what the reaction at Conlees must have been.
  11. Did he eat the German goalie?
  12. Refreshing to hear that redshirting is ok with him if coach feels it would be best. Could be another Ubel type and I still wish he would have redshirted.
  13. After watching part of most of yesterday's matches, I will now admit that World Cup futbol has become my sixth favorite spectator sport, nudging aside golf, bowling, and NASCAR and taking its rightful place behind basketball, football, baseball, boxing, and the Bachelorette. I just don't like when it becomes a bunch of guys playing keep-away. No wonder Dean Smith likes it since it resembles the old four corner offense.
  14. I think that I am beginning to have some insights into soccer (or futeball as I now call it). Lesson # 1 : Wearing wooden shoes strengthens the feet.
  15. This is a great example of an overhyped headline and a need to write some sort of column. The preseason "best sixth man in college basketball"???? At this point it is impossible to predict whether Leslee will even be the best sixth man on the NU team.
  16. I thought Hammond was from Duncan,OK?
  17. Agree, trickey, but I'm also sure that it will take awhile before Missouri or Colorado become the poster children of their respective conferences. Very appropriate reference to Zager and Evans regarding the timing of adjustment to the new alignments, by the way.
  18. Actually, i thought he should save the visit to Cawker City for an August trip home when he could catch the yearly twine-a-thon at the same time.
  19. Dissing the Sunflower state? The drive from Western Oklahoma through Kansas is full of interesting stuff i.e. the Dalton boys hideout in Mead, the world's largest hand dug well in Greensburg (if it wasn't blown away in the tornado a decade ago) Eddie Sutton's hometown in Bucklin, boot hill in Dodge City, the Eisenhower museum in Abilene, Knute Rockne's crash site in the beautiful Flint hills, ... With all the interesting sidelights, it may take him a week to get here
  20. I'm just getting tired of looking at the same headers in this forum and too lazy to post in the proper place. These tidbits were gleaned from the LJS this morning. Feel free to comment on any you find interesting. Piece on the Bluejay's new practice facility says it is now one of the best in the "Big" East. Please note it does not state it is the best in Nebraska. Bet OWH gave a different spin. Looks like Korver stepped up to make this happen. Roy Williams and UNC took a hit on academic fraud and keeping players eligible who have no academic skills. Best to not become too sanctimonious since this has been going on at every institution including those in this fair state for decades. All it takes is someone like McCants to get bitter with regret at missed opportunity and spill the beans. KU students pushing for lowering seat prices to bb games from $25 to $6. Administration obliges by giving prime student tickets to donors and putting more students in the crappy ones near the rafters. This one goes in the "careful what you wish for" category. OK, I did my best to break the monotony. I'm out.
  21. Interesting but irrelevant off season fodder. About as accurate as making a call on the presidential winner in 2020.
  22. Lightning strike knocked out my computer last night. Turned out ok since I was watching the Red Sox game and went to sleep thinking they would win. Thank goodness I had one of those "surge protector" thingees. Worked just like the pocket protector I used to wear in high school.
