Prayers for a safe recovery/treatment and good health in the future!.   Much more important than seeing the Huskers in person.   Hopefully we can get to a point like the short run in the mid-90's when tournament births were the annual expectation not viewed as generational events :).

Big Ten officiating is embarrassingly bad at times. The inconsistency from game to game and even half to half is so frustrating. And there's zero accountability. So, they can remain bad and never get called out. Who among us can be that shitty at our jobs and still be confident that we will be protected from criticism?

At the end of the game I understood why Lawrence was called for his offensive foul.  But then on the very next play,.that same call is not made against Battle.  That summed up the officiating for the game.

We need Williams and Josiah to stay out of foul trouble this half.  Offense was more efficient with Brice.  We have to rebound.

Now they make a traveling call on Keisei that they could have called 5 times on other players already this game.

I can't believe they actually called somebody for fouling Keisei.   Thought there had to be blood and an arrest for that to happen in the Big 10.

Honestly this is what I expected from Hoi-ball from the jump, well, it took 3+ years to figure it out in the current landscape in the B1G.

Biggest reasons are the quality and depth of 'fits' on the roster, and same can be said for the assistants as they're really, really good culture fits at NU. Next is that Freddy acquired and honed the shooting prowess of so many dudes on this team. I had my doubts on cranking up 27' shots early on by anyone not named Keisei. Well, they proved me wrong on that aspect as NU has a solid seven dudes who make 33.3% or greater on threes, and more than half of 'em are upper 30s to mid 40s.

The other reasons are the schedule laid out perfectly for this team to gel. And, even with Mast's surgery being when it was, it allowed the guys to face a struggle against North Dakota and prevail without their big leader. The Dutch Oven has dragged a lot of dudes in the Big Ten, including Zach Edey, and how many thought that possible? And then you have Juwan Gary, we all thought it was Isaac Copeland 2.0 when J.G. went down against Rutgers. Well, it sucked to lose that one (and Minny too), but guess what, NU got payback in Lincoln for Minny already & will do so again when Rutgers is in Lincoln on Senior Day. The schedule down the stretch has been perfect, whenever has that been the case for Nebrasketball? Almost never.

The stars are aligning, and the team is a cohesive, locked-in unit, which is another factor. This group is a team that loves each other, wants each other to do well, and that's a rarity in Fred's time in Lincoln. We have a lot of things going right in 2023-24, just need to FINISH. That, too, has happened, when a lot of B1G road games didn't go that well. Even at Illinois, the final score was an L, but this team went on an 11-0 run to push ahead of the #2 B1G team, and that wouldn't have occurred earlier on this season. It was a sign of growth, and then they busted down the road-woe door with the performance at Indiana. That's positive growth.

The other big factor is our schedule.
We had a cupcake non con for the most part and avoided playing Purdue, Sparty and Illinois twice.
KenPom has us ranked 69th in strength of schedule which is 13th in the Big Ten.
Honestly, we probably had the easiest Big Ten schedule in terms of matchups.

I'm just glad we took advantage of it!

Navigating the site has become a chore when it once was easy to breeze through the basketball info before. Too bad they lost a lot of valuable historic info in trying to change it. Bummer.

Obviously the NCAA does not make this easy.   I have talked about this in other threads as well - but I am an advocate of using Southwest to book multiple flights because you know you can cancel and get full credit for future flights.   But I am also someone who flies on SW quite often so using the credit is not an issue - FWIW it used to expire in a year but they now don't have an expiration on the credit.   Even better though - I accumulate SW points just for this reason because you can book a flight with points and cancel it and you just get the points back (and $5.60 of credit for the little portion you have to pay in cash even when you book a flight with points).  But obviously that is not something you can do now if you don't already have the points built up.    I would also say your window for this is already likely closing.   Would have been better to book the SW flights a month ago probably when you might have caught a sale price.   But if you wait until the selection it is almost certain the flights will be far more expensive even than they are now.

Maybe to limit the flight bookings you can combine them in fly/drive packages.   For example book a flight to Salt Lake and figure if necessary you could use the flight for Salt Lake - or as a base to drive the rest of the way to Spokane.  Or maybe better book a flight to Boise and figure you can drive from there to either Salt Lake or Spokane.

On the ticket thing I would say in most places you can wait and buy the ticket as soon as the selections are made as long as you are willing to bite the bullet and pay whatever it costs.   But Omaha might be an exception to that for reasons others have noted.  First Omaha is a venue that is going to be well attended regardless just because that is what Nebraskans do - tickets always sell well here.   But also if Nebraska does get to Omaha the ticket price will explode - and even more so if Kansas and/or Iowa State are also there.   So I think it is best to buy the Omaha tickets now and figure you won't lose money as long as at least one of those three teams are there.    For others I would probably risk it knowing there is a risk involved if for example BYU ends up in Salt Lake with Nebraska.

I would say that I think that if buying tickets ahead you are actually less likely to lose money if pay for the good seats now.   People are always going to want lower bowl tickets and will pay a premium to get them even if there are no nearby teams.   I always get lower bowl NCAA Final 4 volleyball tickets and have always made money on those when we did not go even if Nebraska doesn't go and the venue doesn't sell out.

Should be very easy to book hotels that you can cancel without penalty so I would go ahead and do that to any location you are certain you would go to - but at the same time for larger cities you will be able to find a hotel somewhere without paying an outrageous price - so that really depends about how picky you are about hotel location or quality.

If you are buying tickets in advance I would probably just buy the first session - particularly if you are not certain you would want to stay for round two (if god forbid NU loses).   Omaha might be an exception but again kind of depends.   If the nearby teams happen to lose in the first round then lots of 2nd session tickets will become available all of the sudden.   That maybe is not likely with ISU or KU in Omaha - but could happen with BYU in Salt Lake maybe.

I also noticed that Boogie's body language was better yesterday.  I am sure he is disappointed not to be in the rotation but I think he is at least starting to accept that and enjoy the run his teammates are having and his less visible role in helping make that happen .

Well that was a fun one to be at.  Those 2 hour drives back are a little rough though.  A few notes from me.

    - There were a couple of times where I thought the roof was going to blow off the place.  We missed the big shot, but overall crowd was great.

    - To overcome the shooting start we had was big and the way we did it was partly due to D.  We certainly made the gophers uncomfortable and didn’t give them many clean looks.

    - Being in house, I didn’t notice the refs much yesterday which was a good thing.  Surprised to see so many comments about them this morning.  I thought they were consistent (for the most part) at least which is all I ask.  There was only once (on an and-1 drive for Minny in the 1st half followed by a KT drive and no call) where I was upset.

    - Happy that Fidone didn’t blow an ACL at half and wouldn’t mind seeing the dude who won the dunk contest do one of those over the goal posts after a pick-6 this year lol.

    - I thought Ben was relatively calm considering what was on the line for Minny.

-Huge kudos to the students.  Our Students really are great for not being known as a basketball school.  They’re loud, keep the energy, and the “NIT” chant made me laugh (even though the NIT probably saved Johnson’s job) lol.

    - The OSU game now is really a “nothing to lose” type of game.  We’ve already assured ourselves a .500 conference finish.  We can beat OSU but it won’t be easy.

    - This team man.  Love them.  Love the fact that we can beat you with multiple players.  Love the fact that we can beat you inside at times and from outside.

    - KT had a struggle game.  CJ couldn’t get going.  But Gary and Williams picked up the slack and it was never in doubt after we pulled away.

My boy was in the hospital due to something outside of his control when the two of us sat in that hospital room & watched on a 20" TV that horrible gut-punch of a ballgame against NW, with opposing guards Boo Buie & Ty Berry htting dagger 3 after dagger 3 whilst mocking Keisei every chance they could. I was livid for a lot of reasons outside of our control. I was just mad and everything sucked. But God's good all the time. My son is starting to heal from his ordeal and on the road to recuperating, and we've been able to attend every single game this season together.  It's been a remarkable time to be resilient and have so much resolve, just like the NU team we cheer for.

To be honest, my 16 y.o. son is my hero. He hasn't blamed anyone or anything for his misfortune or any of his trials or troubles, instead he bucks up in the midst of pain & anguish and keeps his chin up even though he hasn't been able to fully participate in his H.S. sports thus far in the spring season. He is able to start back to his spring season, albeit generally from the sidelines, but his upcoming surgery has finally been set for about two weeks from now, after the regular season, coincidentally. And, after that, then he ought to be able to slowly get back to doing what he loves, soccer, he's played it since he was around 3!!

Not to have this post become too personal, sorry about that... but it is kind of personal to us, I'm saying all this here because I realize that Nebrasketball has been kind of a God-send in a time of fear & unknown circumstances in our lives, and we have made sure to be there at PBA for everyone else we sit by & we cheer our little hearts out for the 2023-24 Huskers -- and watch all the away games together -- because we freakin' care. It's been a fun ride. let's keep this rollin'!! GO BIG RED!! Let's buy our dancin' shoes!! GBR - and we love HHC !!!

That was the best defensive performance I have seen in a long time.
The guys were flying around and made Minnesota earn every point.
We did a tremendous job limiting Garcia and Hawkins.

    Gary had a phenomenal night.
He shot the ball with a lot of confidence.
We easily could have scored 85+ points if we hit some shots we usually make.

This team is so much fun to watch.

I remember every year of the Nee era very well - but that is a fair statement.   We have had teams with more talent but this is a group of very likable players who work hard and are fun to cheer for.   I would have to think for a while before I decided on my favorite Husker team (first one that comes to mind for me is actually Iba era - Dave Hoppen's freshman season team that went to the NIT Final Four back in the era before the NCAA tournament was 64 teams) but this is definitely one of my favorite teams.

I don’t think there’s a problem between them. They both look to get their own shots first. But Keisei threw a lob to Brice and he got fouled and went to the line on the play. They each like to hunt their own shots, but they are team players and I don’t see any animosity between them.
