Enjoyed watching Creighton miss 3 free throws in a row in crunch time after being 20 for 20 up to that point.   See if Providence can hold on.

I bet Williams and Gary are about to go off in the Big 10 Tournament.  Gary for sure should be on the list somewhere for his ability to do everything.  Without Williams and Gary this team is a bottom dweller again this year.

4 Iowa players (5 Total) on the Media Honorable Mention, but no Gary or Williams.  I hope they both take this personally

Not sure if this is the place to put this  but was curious so looked up our seeding in each of our NCAA tournament appearances and thought I would share:

             Seed    Opponent
    1986    9       Western Kentucky
    1991    3       Xavier
    1992    8       Connecticut
    1993    10    New Mexico State
    1994    6      Penn
    1998    11     Arkansas
    2014    11     Baylor

So only been the higher seeded team 3 of the seven times - and probably only a clear favorite in 1991 and 1994.    Other interesting thing I noticed was that until Baylor in 2014 all of the teams that we lost to got beat in the next round.   Baylor beating Creighton made them the first team to beat us in the tourney and go on to make the Sweet 16.    (Of course we also have never played a top 4 seed in the first round that would be favored to make the Sweet 16).

Today a was fantastic performance from Keisei, and we aren’t the team we are without him. You’re right.

But we aren’t the team we are without Williams either. Or Allick. Or Mast. Or Gary. Or……

This is a TEAM, and they are playing better than sum of their parts. And everyone is doing it. Coaches and players.

I don't think he likes to come in at the end of games like that - and I think Fred has decided to defer to his wishes.   There was a game at home earlier where I saw Fred ask him if he wanted to go in at the end in that situation and he said no so Fred did not put him in.   I think Boogie ultimately just accepted that his role with this team was as a practice player and to do what he could to help from the bench and decided he was done playing absent an injury to the guys in the rotation.

Brice going 0/2 at the line is beyond rare.  If we come out and have a good first 5 minutes in the second half we can put this away.

Part of the success this season is a stat that hasn't been discussed much:  team FT percentage.  I think it currently is almost 76%.  That's far and away better than the past few years which hovered in the mid 60s.  In general, in games that have still been up for grabs, the Huskers have made FTs.  That wasn't true in the past.  Props to Wilcher for leading the way.

Norm -  I think this is a great idea - but I also strongly suspect that the NCAA has some rule against what schools/teams can hand out at games (for example when you host an NCAA event like we often do in VB you can't do the kind of standard give aways that we frequently do for home games - pretty sure they don't even let our VB girls throw out the balls during player introductions that they do at every other home game).
I am also almost certain they would have a strict permit requirement before you can sell something at the games.  I hope I am wrong about the give away part - but my expectation is that the only way to do this would be for a private person to sell the t-shirts cheaply somewhere nearby (but  outside) the arena.

I have definitely noticed and commented to my friend at the game Sunday about it.   This team is very good at breaking presses and they do it by really great spacing and passing.

Is it just me or has anyone else noticed that, for a team not exactly flush with ball handlers, our press break is actually technically pretty sound?

I remember with past coaching staffs, this was not a strong suit of ours. Too much dribbling. Too much dribbling into trouble. Too much dribbling into traps. It was always an adventure when we'd face a pressing team. And maybe my memory is off, but it seems like Dana Altman's Creighton squads would sometimes make us look silly. And I can still remember Lance Jeter trying to break the press all by himself, one against the world.

This team seems to know how to find the spots in the zone and where the next pass needs to go. Rienk will hit the spot at center court, for example, and know that CJ will be streaking down the sidelines for that next pass before he even gets the ball.

We've gotten stuck sometimes when we've tried to dribble too much. But, by and large, I've been pretty impressed with this team's ability to break the press.

The best news is we're finally winning enough and in position to hold leads that other teams are having to press us. And we're responding pretty well.

Hoiberg created a team in 2023-24 that's capable of winning in the Big Dance, when the first 3+ seasons the Hoiberg-led Huskers seemed fairly incapable of winning much at all. How these next 3+ weeks go is immaterial to how crazy good this home basketball season's been, a record 18 home wins is a remarkable achievement. Get that first ever win at Crisler, and we'll all be wearin' our dancin' shoes in March Madness. GBR Always.
