  1. I'm with you Norm. I think that Kye is a better player than Serge right now and that is based off of what I have observed in practice. You can just see that Kye is more aggressive and has put in work in the weight room. By no means would Kye be a huge contributor but if you are looking for a more aggressive player around the hoops and one that is physically better then Kye would be the one. But they can't redshirt Serge this year....no way would or could that happen. What will be sad is if Coach Miles feels he can't play him later in the year because he isn't ready. That would be a wasted year. I do like his jumpshot!
  2. Gallegos can slide into the point if needed. Mike Peltz....Menke....could get dicey. My guess on first guy off the bench is Shields. I wish it would be Rivers because then I would feel like he's made a move for more playing time. Buckle in boys and girls! It's almost showtime!
  3. We will rebound. Mostly on the defensive end. Don't see us getting much on the offensive end though.
  4. Structured patterned offense - Doc Sadler Motion offense predicated on how your man is playing you - Tim Miles Doc's teams ran the same sets and patterns 1-4 set looking to get the ball entered into the post. Weave action, etc. A ton of high low action and the determination that the shot clock was going to be used as a weapon to slow down the other team. Coach Miles wants the players to see how they are being played and then react to it. If they are playing you tight - go backdoor. If they are playing behind the screener or low on the screen then flare instead of cut. There is no true set pattern, but rules that players are to follow within the flow. So I really think that in 5 possessions you might look at this offense and see something different all 5 times down the floor based on how the defense plays and where the initial pass goes.
  5. I think many people believe that a less structured system would be easy for the players to pick up on but its really the opposite. Giving players freedom puts more pressure on them making the right decisions and playing to their strengths more. Biggs is not behind Parker. Benny is going to play this year so Coach Miles is going to tell you where he's at. Right now, with Biggs not playing, Benny would have to be the guy.
  6. Slow it down...as in get the guys to their spots. Not slow it down and milk the clock. Benny played in a system that was all about run and run and run. I agree....we can't run and gun with this group. But in no way are we going to stand 40 feet from the basket and run the clock to 9 seconds and then go try and get a shot. They want him to slow down...not milk the clock. Big difference in the two systems. Think of it this way. In high school Benny was fast and they wanted him to go 1 on 1 against anyone in transition...maybe even 1 on 2. No way can he do that in college. Slow it down and get it set and rely on the motion offense to attack. If we get an open look at 20 seconds left on the shot clock...we are firing away all day.
  7. Talley and then Andre (if semi healthy) and then Ray. Unless Biggs plays then it likely shifts him into the top 3.
  8. Entirely up to Biggs. Coach Miles wants him to play. Wouldn't you want your best PG on the floor? There is a great deal of communication going on during practice between Coach Miles and Biggs...and its all good. There is a trust there and I think they are on the same page as to what they are trying to get accomplished. But....why would Biggs really want to play this year when he can see what Pitchford and Petteway can add to the mix for the next two years? Can't blame the kid on his part. Can't blame Coach Miles for wanting him to play either. Biggs just seems to have the "it" factor at that position...gets into the lane and can get their motion offense started with penetration. They are trying to attack the lane and they really need a PG that can consistently pressure the defense into having to slide somebody in to help, which leads to open players on the perimeter. With him they at least have one guy who can consistently do that. Without him.....its just not the same. My guess....we don't see Biggs this year. Or maybe we do....who knows!
  9. Trending on Twitter thanks to his picture from B10 Media Days....kids check Twitter. Love his game plan. It's such a smart strategy. The media guys are all picking up on it and he's already in the back of their minds as a guy who's going to take a new approach to things. This guy gets it!
  10. There are a couple of questions that need to be asked that might change how we do this year. Is Biggs going to play or not? At practice he is running with what I see as the top group....but will he end up playing or not? Will Andre be able to make it through the year with his knee? He is a HUGE key in the middle...also...how much will he play? There isn't much depth in the middle. How will the youngster Shields play? Will he or David Rivers step up and give Coach Miles quality minutes? How many of the group of Menke, Kirkowski, Tyrance, etc..have to play? Take nothing away from those guys but it could be an issue if we have to rely on them for too many minutes. I'm going to say 8-5 and 5-13 with a first round loss in the B10 tournament. 13-19 overall. Then we continue to recruit and add the transfers and build from there. My concern is with scoring and getting enough of it. I think they will hang in there on the defensive end. Injuries to our team and to other teams could impact and having or not having Biggs at PG changes a lot. He is clearly our best option there. Now...if we get it rolling a little on the offensive end of the floor I would be willing to go to 16-16, which would be pretty darn good for a program in major transition. GBR!
  11. As I watched practice I was somewhat impressed with how physical we were, especially the post drills. There are no easy reps in the drills. Coach Miles is intense as well! I love what they are doing in terms of taking the time and building the system as it is clearly not the same as anything our guys have seen in recent years. Defensively, without giving away exactly what they are trying to do, is similar in scheme but very different in how they approach different situations or scenarios. I really expect us to get alot better as the year goes on as alot of habits that were formed, both good and bad, need to be changed. It's all going to take time! I mentioned how Coach Miles is intense...but he also has the ability to break up practice with a joke or a jab at a player that gets a smile on everyone's faces. The kids seem to really want to work hard for him and the entire staff. He has them doing pushups for turnovers, bobbles, mistakes..etc. The kids drop to the ground and do them on their own for every turnover. Funniest moment of practice was when Coach Miles asked Dylan Talley if he had made anything yet today...Dylan said no and Coach Miles told him to give him 20 pushups cause he wasn't on scholarship to miss. Talley seems to have bought in big time...always talking to coach and trying to get things right, especially on the defensive end of the floor. Love what they are doing....just need to be really patient!
  12. I was at practice yesterday and thought that the biggest thing is the change in systems and how difficult it is going to be for the current players to switch gears. You can tell that they are being asked to play more of a freelance motion now and it looks like they can't believe its ok to fire away and create on their own. I thought that three of the best players on the team won't play in a game until next year in Petteway, Biggs, and Pitchford. That's a good thing for us though as you can see they have solid abilities. Ubel is working his butt off as is Kye Kurkowski....Sergei has a long ways to go to be physical enough to contribute as they had him at the 5 when they did do some team things. Love the effort and the intensity and the fact that you can tell there is a relationship built...also thought the assistant coaches worked their butts off throughout practice. It will be interesting to see the defense as Coach Miles said they are starting over and many things are opposite of what was taught with the previous staff. It's a hard working group....but I still am trying to figure out who's gonna score???
