The kid from North Dakota St sure came through for Alabama last night.  His skill set would have fit very well in our system.  Plus, he blocked shots.   Plenty of players have stepped up from smaller schools and have thrived.  Of course, they have better players around them.

They are all also taking advantage of a fifth season of playing due to the extra year of eligibility.  The extra year of development makes a  much bigger difference for some than for others.

That’s exactly right, as the saying goes, you don’t get a “little bit” pregnant. 

That’s True, I took the question to mean what one player would you add to our Roster today. 

NIL was good in theory but was rolled out too quickly and with no real direction. That’s led to where we are today and it’s too tough to dial something like that back.  So now it’ll be about adapting where we are to what probably needs to happen.
 
Someone mentioned contracts and I think that’s a fair way to go with where we are at.  Making players sign multi-year contracts and having a penalty for breaking that contract would be fair for all parties. You could still offer one year contracts if you wanted to, but could also off more lucrative multi-year deals to ensure you keep someone around.

I'm usually not to worried about the starting 5 being good.  It's the next 4 off the bench that determine how good of team you will have.  In the past, we have had a great starting lineup until you have to sub in and then it as a pretty big drop-off. This year, we were fortunate that wasn't the case.

There is a 45 day period for entering the transfer portal which closes May 1st. An exception is that when a coach is fired there is a 30 day window for that team, regardless of the time. 
 
NIL collectives can directly communicate with transfers in accordance with state law. (Unsure about the laws in Nebraska).  An issue in the past is that all of this was verbal contracts so you could either have NIL groups not doing what they promised or kids and their families could make up numbers.

The only counter point I'd make, because I agree with you, is in professional sports EVERY contract isn't up EVERY year.

You're not alone. I've had conversations with fans of blue bloods like UNC, UCLA, etc. and they're losing interest as well. Spans beyond basketball as well.
 
And I think one part of it is that fans latch onto some of the players who are consistent 3-4 year players for the team. If 90% of the roster changes every single year, the only common thread is the one on the front of the jersey.
 
The number of times I've heard "I don't even know who's on the team anymore" is becoming far too common these days.

Five of our top 8. The only rotation player to portal was a non-starter.
 
We honestly wouldn't have to do a ton in the portal to improve our standing. At this point, Brice probably slides back to his 3 spot, Gary to the 4, Jamarques re-enters the starting rotation at the 2, and Ulis probably starts at point.
 
Land that trio of Bellevue West guys, though, and I would feel pretty good about things, provided we keep those other five guys.

1(a) - Brice
1(b) - Mast
3 - Lawrence 
4- Gary

I'm glad that CJ stuck it out the last three years.
He won us a couple games this year especially the Wisconsin game. 
He is a guy we should all be rooting for in his final collegiate season. 

A lot of people on this board are over analyzing one loss to a red-hot Texas A&M team.
