  1. I don't want to speak too much on it, because I know we see it happen more and more today with people you'd never expect.  With that said, knowing Marcus as long as I have and knowing the type of man he is, which is a hell of a father, loves his wife, such a family man.... I just have a very hard time believing this is actually true.  Someone like Marcus wouldn't do something like this.

  2. A couple notes on Zion Williamson.

he does have a jump shot.  You can find it in a lot of his highlight reels.

Also, not taking anything away from how talented he is (because my goodness is he a freak athlete), but if you watch every single video, the competition is absolutely pathetic.  He looks like he's playing with Freshman and sophomores in a very small class.

You don't really have a PG-- I guess Jaylin Bradley would qualify

    PG- Bradley

    SG- Hollins

    SF- Thomas

    PF- Daum

    C- Patton

    Bench: Agau, Thurman, BIllingsley--

Thats an NCAA team for sure

How far are you going back?

    Gesell would be your PG

  4. Speaking of Husker Power, it would be entertaining to see this fivesome on the basketball court. Personally I'd love to see the Davis twins from MO bang around inside. No doubt they'd clear the lane!

    PG Chris Jones

    SG Alonzo Moore

    SF Cethan Carter

    PF Kevin Maurice

    C DaiShon Neal

After the football season, three of those guys will likely play in the barnstorming tour of Husker Senior players, I'd imagine.

Alonzo is the only player you need on that lineup. Zo could start for our hoops team and its been like that since the day he walked on campus.  Unbelievable athlete and one hell of a basketball player.

  5. I coached Hannah throughout middle school actually.  She was probably the most developed/skilled player i had seen at that age group to come out of Lincoln in a long time.  She has a lot of work to do on her shooting touch but very high IQ, very skilled, and is a great person to be around!

  6. I believe Doc thought Gesell was considered a tweener.  Gesell wanted to play PG and Iowa provided him that promise and opportunity.  Doc would not commit to him playing PG and wouldn't make that promise.  That is the way I understood the situation.  So it certainly would/could be construed that Doc sort of passed on Gesell.  It could also mean that Iowa wanted him much more than Nebraska and Gesell knew that.

This is completely accurate, and still frustrates the hell out of me.  At the time, Mike was the #9 rated ESPN PG in that class.  (I know some people don't care about rankings, but that's still an important fact to mention).  He made it very clear to Doc that he wanted to strictly be a PG, and Doc wanted him to play more SG.  Mccaffrey straight up told him he could play PG so he chose Iowa.  It was as simple as that.

Andrew wants to get a job and start earning a living.

That's very apparent...any team tells him they're picking him and he's gone.

The question is whether or not he's going to do so without a guarantee of being picked.

Terran left without a guaranty of getting picked, and he didn't get picked. He took a risk, and things still turned out well for him.

The question is whether Andrew is willing to take a similar risk. Looks to me like the answer to such a question is, "Yes."

I wouldn't say things necessarily turned out "well" for him.  The D-league definitely isn't where TP wanted to end up at.

  8. Game:  Based on their natural gifts, who do you think would be a great player for each of our players to model their game after?

    My thoughts:

    Watson -- Allen Iverson

    Gill -- Nick Van Exel

    Webster -- Jimmy Butler

    White -- Bruce Bowen

    Roby -- Kevin Durant

    McVeigh -- Eric Piatkowski

    Horne -- Jared Sullinger

    Morrow -- Dennis Rodman

    Jacobson -- Paul Milsap

    Tshimanga -- Zach Randolph

Watson has very similar qualities to AI.  Also i love the Nick Van Exel comparison for Anton.  In Nicks prime, he was unstoppable.

Also, although Jordy is left handed and will play the center position, i would love to see him add some Lamarcus Aldridge to his game.

Here is a list of 40 guys invited to NBA camps so far.  No AW III

It's up to 60 now. No AW III

    No Shavon Either :-(

Yup. Shavon was a great college player but he's either going to play in Europe or go pro in something besides basketball. I wonder what the level/pay of play is in Denmark, where is mother is from?

i still think Shavon winds up on a d-league roster or even a NBA Roster next season.

I don't see any way possible that Shavon ever winds up on an NBA roster

    Interesting:

Seems like we'd have the inside track, assuming we're interested. :)

Here are highlights from this year:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3MiiXGUR0bY

I don't remember much about him at Lincoln High, just the name.

If I remember right he was mostly a banger at Lincoln High.  Looks like he has improved a lot.

Merill has improved tremendously.  He came back last summer and played pick up with us a few times.  Solid player now.  Still not a big 10 caliber player.  Definitely athletic enough to play here, but skill level would be slow.  Not saying he couldn't be good enough to play in a power conference though.

  11. I know for a fact that other people on the staff and some players didn't like Beckner at all. The guy came off as a jerk a lot of the times. Doesn't look good, but maybe it's for the best.

Yes, i had been hearing the same thing from someone since the first couple weeks Beckner got here.  One of the family members of the staff had been telling me that since before the season started.  This isn't much of a shock and not really much of a loss in my eyes when it comes to trying to keep a close knit bond within the program.

  12.

I was listening to a national sports talk show today and one of the talking heads said that moving to a quarter system is all but a done deal.  I guess I am still a fan of two halves, but I doubt my vote counts.

If they do move to quarters, I hope that the men's game doesn't do what the women did in that when a team reaches five fouls it is a two shot foul.

The college game is trying to become identical with the NBA game so this will most definitely be the case. a two shot foul after 5 fouls in a quarter will almost definitely be the new rule to go along with it.

  13. So, my question about the end of the game is this: Leading by 3 with UNC throwing it in why wouldn't Nova defend hard up to the half court line and then foul? As exciting as it was for UNC to hit that crazy 3 pointer, he should never have even got the shot off. Foul him before the shot gets taken. Broadcasters often pose the possibility by coaches seldom do it. Why not?

Every coach has different philosophies about fouling when up 3.  Some coaches are all for it and some are against it.  Not saying Jay Wright is against it but not all coaches agree about fouling late when up by 3.

  14. A new name to keep an eye on. According to Nebraska hoops Northern Iowa has been in touch with Kanon Koster a G/F from Kearney High in class of 2018. He is the son of Doug Koster aka Mr. Basketball.

Koster is solid, especially for only being a sophomore.  Never really dominates a game but is just very smooth and doesn't really get rattled. Very under control and has a nice overall game.

  15.

Man, I thought it was going to show Isaiah PoorBear Chandler out of Omaha Central.  He perhaps is the most "under the radar" big man in our State.

He's under the radar because of how lazy he plays

I tend to agree with you.  My son goes to Central so we go to the home games.  If you notice, against any team with size that can match him, he doesn't do very well.

I coached at a class A school this season and we played central midway through the season.  They dominated us in the second half because we were very young this season, but i was hardly impressed with him.  He had a great FT stroke, but outside of that he was just lazy.  Behrens yelled at him more than once because he threw him a perfect lob and he either didn't want to go get it, or didn't jump high enough to put it down.  Half the game he was focused on standing out on the perimeter for some reason.

The kid definitely has potential with that size, but he's gotta find some sort of motor in him if he ever wants to go anywhere with his game.
