She also annoyed the refs, as she got Teed up.  Great player, but extremely demonstrative.   Has never committed a foul, and has never taken a shot in which she wasn't fouled.  She could be Lisa Bluder, I'm not sure.

Jaz has undoubtedly more than just help transform the  Huskers.  It has lifted the weight off Sam, and she can just do her thing. PLUS The other added ingredient is the 4 new freshman. Coley, Markowski, Weidner and Kendall M. We don't even know yet what Popa will add to the package.

They thrive on the speed and intensity of Jazz's play. The whole team feeds off of it.   The nearly perfect match.  All of this changed the teams dynamic.

This is what has transformed the team this year. This  team knows they can win.

    Isn't it great !

This should allow Ed Morrow to slide out to his more natural position and play the "3" next year... ?   Im expecting him to light it up from outside next year!!!

thriller reacted to jimmykc in Fred Hoiberg
On a more serious note, I have reached a personal conclusion that if Hoiberg does not come, a long-term Miles would be the only acceptable alternative. A perusal of the latest coaching carousel reveals only two possibilities which would be able to surpass UNL in attractiveness to Fred. Texas A&M has more money and a better recent basketball record and recruiting base. But it is still a "football school" and well, it is in College Station Texas. UCLA has the history, money, and location but has been the graveyard of coaches not named Wooden. Thank goodness Hoiberg is a Midwestern guy with Lincoln ties. I would think we have a bona fide shot to get him. So let's just get on with it, one way or the other.

I just hope the next coach, whoever it is, works as hard through adversity as Tim Miles does.

The writing has been on the wall for awhile.  It would have been easy to just cash in his chips and phone it in the last few games of the season.

Thomas Allen is out with injury; Nana Akenten chooses to repeatedly violate team rules and you're forced to suspend him; you're down half a dozen players across the season and now you're down to 8 players available, including just three of the original starters and three other guys who weren't even rotation guys.

And yet he's still arguing with the refs in the Iowa game and doing whatever they can to gameplan for Rutgers.

We might get smoked by Maryland today, but it won't be because Miles and the staff quit on the team or on the season.

He has a lot more character than a lot of the guys who are calling for his head.

"Hey, Kenya, I know this seems like a good career move, but we have decided to take a new approach with Husker basketball.  We are "all in", like we are in football.  Here's what that means to you..
Coach Miles is getting a 3 year extension. We want recruits to know he is our coach and we believe in him (and you). His assistants will be getting significant raises with extra term guaranteed We will make recruiting travel easier for the assistants, like we are for the football coaches Did I mention we are giving you a raise? We understand you want a career path, and we are on board with that.  Tell us how we can help. We think you and Coach are going to be successful and we want to give you whatever support we can."

I guess I am making the assumption that this would have kept Hunter here.  Maybe not.  But if Moos (or whomever is making the call at the University) wants to tell us fans that they care about basketball and are dedicated to make us relevant, this discussion should've happened then and, more importantly, should happen with whomever comes in next.

If the actual plan is call up the 4-5 guys on Moos' notepad and then just start cold calling people who made the NCAA tourney I feel like I haven't been harsh enough for the last couple of weeks.

I think you nailed it. From listening to Kent a lot before and after games, I get the sense he is a big Miles supporter and I suspect he is frustrated by the lack of commitment the last two Ad's have shown Miles in regards to his contract and how that has impacted the team.  This has been debated for 30 pages on another thread so no need to have that debate here.  This is just my humble opinion on it and Kent has earned the right to voice any opinion he has on Nebrasketball however he wants to air it.

We could do a lot worse, winning is all that matters but it would be nice to have someone that actually plays an exciting brand of basketball.  Weber does not fit that mold IMO.

I will go down with the ship because I bleed red and am a fan.  I won't have revisionist history here.  I expected a special year and have been very disappointed in the last several weeks.  If the season doesn't turn around, then I will reluctantly be on board for a coaching change despite how much I like Miles and how I feel he has elevated this program.  Make no mistake, Nebraska is better off now then we were when Miles took over.  However, for all of you that are adament we fire Miles, just be careful what you wish for.  There is no guarantee of a home run hire...we could have another 10 years of Collier/Sadler and our talent base could drop off considerably.  Which, by the way, Sadler was a great guy and like @hskr4life said, that termination press conference was brutal to watch.  Really hope we beat Maryland, get on a little roll and not have to watch Miles go through something similar.

thriller reacted to Norm Peterson in Eichorst Out
I sometimes lurk on other boards and this Eichorst thing has been interesting to me.

There is a group of people who seem to think this is a catastrophic move by the university that undercuts a potentially very strong recruiting class that Riley has been putting together.  Those people seem to think firing Eichorst essentially cuts the nads off of Riley and dooms him to failure when they thought he was well on his way to success. It's almost like a funeral for some of them.

These same people, over the years, typically:
Express contempt for tradition (i.e., the "Husker" way) Express contempt for Tom Osborne because he ... Forced Bill Byrne to replace him with Frank Solich Hired Bo Pelini based on his (tenuous) connection with the Husker past Failed to fire Mike Anderson the moment they turned on him Hired his former punter to replace Mike Anderson (more inbreeding from their perspective) Is viewed with reverence by the so-called "Tradition Coalition" who value the "Husker" way Give men's head basketball coaches about 3 seasons to turn things around before bailing on them Mock other fans who continue to support head basketball coaches longer than 3 years into their tenure Mock the current men's basketball coach by, for instance, calling Doc Sadler "Kenneth" or belittling Miles for his tweeting Are conspicuously silent after big Husker hoops wins and conspicuously noisy after big Husker hoops losses Think that having Tom Osborne in charge of hiring coaches or ADs is a very bad idea (see above) Think that hiring any AD or Coach who has a previous Osborne connection is a very bad idea (so no Trev Alberts or Dave Rimington) Given the above, it is mystifying to me why they seem so distraught about Eichorst getting fired.  And not so much because they like Eichorst as much as they think the Eichorst firing is really the death knell for Mike Riley's coaching tenure here.

It's equally mystifying to me that they're so willing to remain supportive of Mike Riley in the face of a profound lack of progress at the helm of a program that still has some legitimate national cachet even as they turn on basketball coaches in charge of programs that manifestly lack that national cachet.  I mean, why are they so supportive of Riley and willing to give him a pass on the abysmal end to last year and the beginning of this one even as they express outrage that the boom wasn't lowered on Miles back in March?

It just makes me glad that the average fan has no input on coaching changes.

I understand the sentiment that Ed's transfer is viewed as a move to jump a sinking ship. It may be.  I get that the transfer is viewed as an indictment on Miles and the program. This may be proven in the coming days and weeks or maybe not. But just thought i would offer this up...

I'm glad my job doesn't depend on managing the happiness of 18 and 20 year old kids. In general, it's very easy these days to flee when things don't go exactly your way instead of digging in and doing work. It's easier to find a better situation than it is to make a better situation with what you have.

Ed wanted to transfer after last season. He never told the coaches or his parents. His main reason/complaint at that time was playing time. He thought he should play more. He was a true freshman AND he was injured. He still got minutes. He had to be convinced that he should come back and give it another try. And he did.

Now this season comes and goes. More frustration, more losses, more of being injured. He wants to transfer again. Tells very few people, doesn't tell his parents until last week, and now he's gone. Wanted more time at the wing to promote his NBA game. I get having dreams and can't fault him for that at all but c'mon.

    Time will tell.
