HB posted in a different thread that Lloyd is locked in. Consider him as N as anyone else on the roster.
Sounds good to me!

I'm wondering if this changes the narrative at all that there is no hope for next year if Fred is retained because we lose Sam, Derrick, & Bando. If those 3 young guys continue to improve, add a healthy Gary & Keita, plus Keisei, Wil, Lloyd, and whatever newcomers we bring in, and there isn't any reason we couldn't have a competitive team next year.
I've been dubious about the "complete flip" comments I keep hearing. Filling Walker's role will be a very, very tall task. He leaves a giant hole, but Kieta and Wilhelm will be a big part of that equation. It's also a big ask for two or three freshmen to be asked to fill the PG role. Probably need a transfer for that spot. More in the SG mold and not AV type. They have a lot of solid role players for next year, they need to find a dude, though. If they do, it could be a fun year next season.
That said, I'm not sure I'd bank on Lloyd being here. A player of his expectation almost never redshirts. Maybe he'll be the exception, but I don't think I'd hold too tightly onto that one.

Out of curiosity, is this still a possibility? Has NU filed an appeal or some sort of paperwork for this?
No idea if it's possible or likely, but I don't believe he filing process comes until after his regular eligibility expires.

Winning is fun.
Some clutch free throws down the stretch. Was also interesting to see freshmen Oleg, Dawson & Lawrence and sophomore Wilcher the group to make an important push late in the game.

I agree he did what was not done before, but again do you just settle and have a defeatist attitude? There is no reason this univ shouldnt demand more from one of its revenue generating sports. Too much money and support to keep a guy cause he's funny and qwirky and a salesman. Ultimately it needs to come down to wins and post season wins. My opinion, feel free to disagree, but I expect more results overall after several years.
Defeatist? c'mon man.
I think the Nebraska job is actually a lot harder than people want to admit.
10 hours ago, Craytonhater said:Xavier was gone cause Kenya was gone. Roby most likely would of been gone due to NBA. The last wasnt a player that was going to elevate the program above the previous year IMO. As far as SJSU, lets wait to see where that goes. Again, its SJSU. If he was such a good coach why is he there?
Kenya was gone because Miles didnt get the support from the AD's office. If Miles' job was more secure he may have been persuaded to stay. The bigger blow was Lewis had made great inroads with instate recruits. Very likely Chucky would be in Lincoln, not Madison. Sallis had a great relationship with Miles. With the caliber of offers he ended up getting, perhaps he still leaves the state, but TM and ML were in a really good spot there too.

I'm also not ready to say Fred is out after the season. I think there are a lot of peaks and valleys left in this year before we can say what Freds fate is.

I believe it was mentioned somewhere on here that he has been on record in the past expressing his extreme hatred for NU and the Huskers. Those folks are indoctrinated.
Cool. I'm still making the call if I'm Trev.

FTR, I don't agree with @Craytonhater's reasoning. But if you follow his reasoning to its logical conclusion, the only coach we had this century who left the program BETTER than he found it would have been Barry Collier.
But I think Craytonhater is wrong.
Tim Miles inherited a program that won 12 games the year before he arrived. And only 4 games in conference. In his 2nd season -- and I DON'T CARE IF IT WAS LIGHTENING IN A BOTTLE, IT WAS STILL AN NCAA TOURNEY APPEARANCE -- he lead us to the Dance. His last two seasons, we made the post-season both years. He turned the program over on a high note. He delivered the most conference wins in a single season in the history of the program his penultimate year here. Two consecutive post-season appearances before he was shown the door.
Oh, but there wasn't much talent in the cupboard when Fred took over, so they say. Hey, friends, let's be honest, FRED BLEW THE CUPBOARD UP! He wasn't planning on keeping any of Miles' guys. He was going to fill his own cupboard with his own players and he liked Thor and Dachon Burke and had the room so he let them stay. It wouldn't have mattered who we might have had. If you recall the discussion at the time, it was noted he did the same thing when he took over from McDermott at ISU: he flipped the roster and basically started over from scratch.
So, don't tell me about the shape of the roster at the time Fred took over as though it's some excuse for what's happened since. Matt A was hired to go out and fill a roster and that's what he did. It's not like Fred showed up in September and had to hit the floor with whoever was still there from the prior regime.
Anyway ... if you agree with Craytonhater that he left the program in worse shape than when he arrived, fine, but I look forward to your compelling explanations.
100% with you on all of that. Also, in the 13 win conf season, I've seen bad Husker teams have bad seasons in down years. I don't care what state the conference was in when it happened, it'd never been done before.
That said, the roster was a mess after that season. Nobody was coming back, there wasn't much coming in. Miles had been in survival mode. That last season was a win or else situation. At the beginning, he was winning. At the end, it was or else. He was recruiting to survive, not sustain. It would have been a big job to make that next season competitive.

I'm not sure DeVries would be able to hang up the phone, he would be on the floor convulsing in laughter at the mere thought that Trev had the temerity to even attempt to dial his number.
Yeah. DeVries would absolutely not be an option for us...ever.
Craig might actually seriously listen to Trev's pitch at least. But yeah, he's not really a realistic option either.
That would be my guess on DD in terms of his CU/NU ties, too, but I'd make the call of I was Trev.

Let's say Beard is cleared of any wrong doing. LEt's also say there's an opening this year or next at NU. Let's also say Trev is still the AD. I don't see Beard fitting the criteria he laid out when hiring the football coach, which I would expect to be similar to what he'd look for in hiring a basketball one. I don't think Beard will be a serious candidate here in the near future. Probably ever.

Thx. Frankly, I'll believe it when I see it, though I could see an argument that would be the best case scenario for all parties involved.
If we're looking at serious candidates if that were to happen, *my* first two calls would be to Craig Smith and Darian Devries. Both might hang up the phone, but then again, they might not. If not them, I'd love to see the basketball team break the color barrier at NU.
WRT to the condition Miles left the program in, there's a definite argument to be made that the program was in a bad spot. I'm of the opinion that has more to do with the athletic directors than it did Miles but I won't go into all that here. Miles was able to do things (NCAA Tournament appearance and most conf wins in a season) here that nobody else was able to do this century. That should have counted for more than it did, IMO.

Given what @HB said today about Hoiberg and his ticker, it may be time to bump this thread.
What thread are these comments in?

Well, that went about as expected. Walker made a legit 3, so there's that at least...

Been a rough year for getting chatter's started. Thanks y'all for picking up the slack!
How great was last night! Creighton and Iowa in the same month!

I guess back-to-back good performances is too much to ask of this team at this point...
I did like the contributions from Lawrence and Briedenbach. Get the rest of the regs to get back up to par and we'll be fine. Tonight, on the whole was disappointing, though.

I only got to see overtime of this one but twitter tells me the refs had a rough day. If the foul on Wilcher at the end is any indication, that's a tough pill to swallow.
Walker is a load. Sam is fearless. Tominaga is too.
This team may just have something here.
Rest up, take it out on KState next week.

Tough night. Hungry opponent, hangover from Sunday, point guard puking up his guts. Flush it, regroup and take a swing a Purdue.

Sounds fun. Maybe it happens, but future opponents will be more than willing to play Big Ten basketball, something Creighton wasn't. NU's a better *team* than they were last year, but they're still under talented relative to the conference. The adjustments Hoiberg and co have made have me really encouraged, but the mountain is still tall they're trying to climb.

The other adjustment they've made is to slow way down. According to Kenpom, this year's is exactly as efficient as last year's. The offense was horrific the first month or so of the season then really pick things up. Hopefully that happens again. But last year, they were top 20 in tempo. This year, they're 291. Creighton made adjustments to take Tominaga and Wilcher out of he game. Walker and Griesel made them pay big time. I'd expect future teams to adjust to try to slow down SG and DW. That should open up things for the shooters again. It'll be up to them to knock down those opportunities. We're not going to do this with a regular guy who makes dynamic plays for himself. Walker will probably be the closest thing we have to a steady scorer, but he's not going to create his own offense like Bryce did last year. It's going to be by committee.

There were some technical free throws right after that. Was that what it was called for? I thought I saw it was called for a flop warning. I just saw a highlight package and it didn't show it. I'll see if I can find a broadcast tomorrow.
