Jamarques has shown he belongs at this level. Hope we keep him for his career. I've heard Ramel Lloyd was the best of the freshmen in November. He's obviously going to be a little behind in development for having sat out compared to Jamarques. There were concerns that he was sitting out in order to save a year of eligibility to transfer, but I've heard Ramel plans to return. Which is nice.

The general consensus on Gary is that surgery should take care of the problem with his shoulder and that he'll be back better than ever.

And I've heard the names of one or two guards to keep an eye out for in the transfer portal.

If all of that comes to fruition and we can find a suitable replacement for Derrick Walker, we could actually be OK next year. I certainly think we have some pieces to build around.

This is an big offseason for Wilhelm. I think he's got the talent to be a consistent performer at this level. Would love to see him take a big step this offseason. I think some combination of him and Kieta will be a big answer to how they replace Walker.

If CJ sticks around, I think he'll be poised for a big bounce back next season.

  2. Nu currently sits in the 10 seed spot after both Wisconsin and penn st lost.

interestingly, playing around with bracket scenarios, I noticed for scenarios where the canceled MSU/MINN game was not made up, nu lost the tiebreaker. In scenarios where it was, and MSU won, nu won the tiebreaker. Not sure if these is  how that would play out in reality but something to keep an eye on.

I could see Michigan joining the race as well. They are 8-7 and their last 5 are vs MSU, @ Rutgers, vs Wisc, @ Illini, and @ Indiana. Of course the head to head over us makes it a bit tougher to pass them

Possible. PSU and Wisconsin are the immediate focus. Let's see how the next week goes and regroup after the Minnesota game. I'm hoping tomorrow is not the classic Nebrasketball clunker we've all come to know and love.

According to the bracket generator at http://bball.notnothing.net/big10.php?sport=mbb :

A Maryland win puts us in position for a 10 seed facing Michigan State.

A loss puts us at 11 against Minnesota, then Indiana.

Winning out still leaves us at a 10 seed, but against Iowa.

I didn't do all the many configurations to get us to a 3 seed. This was enough thinking for one day.

As I ran it, 2 wins, however they come, put us in good position for the 10 seed. That also assumes the rest of the games go according to the favorites, which they won't, so there are a ton of variables at play.

  5. I got curious about what NU needs to do to get out of the Wednesday games. In short, Pass Penn St. and Wisconsin. Huskers are .5 games behind PSU and 1.5 back of Wisc. NU owns the tiebreaker over the Badgers. PSU owns the tiebreaker vs NU if they end up tied. If all three are tied, NU would be the 10 seed, I believe.

    • Penn St. has 5 games left, 3 on the road, but two of them are at Minnesota and Ohio St. The rest of their schedule is vs. Rutgers, at NW and vs. Maryland. Challenging.
    • Wisconsin has a tougher slate, though 3 of their 5 remaining are at home: vs. Rutgers, vs. Iowa, at Michigan, vs. Purdue, at Minnesota. Also challenging.
    • NU as you all likely know, get three home games in a row vs. Maryland, Minnesota and Michigan St. before finishing at Iowa.

If anyone stumbles vs. Minnesota, it could be the difference in playing Wednesday vs. Thursday.

it's a dream, alright. But for some reason, the big a$$ pinch I just administered didn't change that chart a bit.

    3 seed? us?

okay, I definitely need to lay off the crack pipe.

I mean, not only would we have to win out, but Minnesota would too except for the game vs. us, so...

More realistic, win two and we should have a decent shot at 10th. Win 3 we'll be sitting pretty for Thursday.

The painful issue for CJ and quite honestly for Keisei as well are their limitations beyond being a shooter.  Keisei has now developed his game to be a scorer as well as a shooter.  He can drive and cut to the hole and is creative around the hoop allowing him to score against the biggest of the bigs.  He has quick hands and good anticipatory skills. He lacks in lateral quickness and strength but does have decent hops and good handles.

CJ has seemed to regress in nearly every category.  He is particularly frustrating when dribbling into the crowd and literally any time he puts the ball onto the floor.  My son calls him the 2023 Lat.

I guess I still have hope for CJ, but Fred needs to use him very selectively until his game returns.  Heck, that could be against Rutgers...who really knows.  But he cannot be trusted with extended minutes at this point.

Right now it appears the most trusted rotation may be - DW, Sam G, Keisei, Lawrence, Wilhelm, Dawson, Sam H and Blaise.

Except Lat never had a season like CJ did last year…

At some point the “extended” opportunity needed to be “ok, we are living in the current, not last year”.  Kind of like having a FG kicker go 14-16 and win conference kicker if the year and then keep having him kick the next year when he’s 4-10…

Which is why he got removed from the starting lineup and had his minutes reduced…
