Does the Nebraska media ever offer a recruiting pitch for a prospect to come play Nebrasaka that is aimed directly at the prospect as blatantly as this?  Maybe they do and I just don't realize it, but wow...

Sipple / Christopherson / Rosenthal better have an article from the "Nebraska perspective" later on today...

I see nothing wrong with the writer trying to convince the kid Marshall is for him.  I would hope the LJS and OWH (most are to busy bashing the program to do something constructive for it) would do the same.

Can't see the OWH ever doing that.  Maybe the LJS.  Maybe.  But I think that's outside of that they'd normally do.

  2. If it's a school with a significant name as nearly everyone has been alluding to, that leaves Clemson, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, Xavier, St. Joseph's, Temple, FGCU, Boston College, Virginia, Georgia TEch, Cincy, Pitt, Providence, DePaul, Rutgers, Seton Hall, South Florida, St. Johns, Syracuse, ASU, Cal, Oregon st., USC, Utah, Wash, WSU, Memphis, BYU, St. Mary's or UNO.

I was 100% joking when I included them on the list...

Miles needs to find someone to fill this last scholarship, even if it is for one year. I am going to be upset if Menke is on scholarship for a second straight year when those 2 years wasted on Menke could have been given to a juco guy for 2 years.

    Why?

our 3 bigs are going to have a combined 5 min of d1 experience.

That doesn't mean you have to take a guy though.  You only take him if he can help the program.  You get in trouble when you start handing out 'ships just to have them all filled.  I'd rather reward a guy like Peltz or Tyrance or Menke  for a year than take a guy  just because you still have an open scholarship.  these are valuable commodities, can't be casual with them.

  4. I haven't seen enough film on him to know if he is a stud or not, but my initial reaction would be that I would rather Nebraska go after a Center, so that Pitchford, Smith, and Rivers can play the PF spot.  If the kid has the same kind of skills as Tummala (which would make him too good for Nebraska not to sign him if they can), then I will likely change my tune, but my initial reaction is that Nebraska currently has 3 players that can play the 4-Spot, but no legit contributors for the 5-Spot.

I think that both Pitchford and Smith could do some good things at the 5-Spot, but I think the more natural position for both of them is the 4-Spot.  Like Ubel, I think they could manage at the 5-Spot if there is no true Center, but their potential is much greater at the 4-Spot.

I think with Miles' plan for the offense, we're going to see a lot more of two 4's on the floor a lot rather than a true 4 and 5.  That also seems to be a trend in CBB in general.  A true center who fits what Miles wants to do will be very difficult to find.

  5. Yes, i meant block.  I'm with you.  I've been saying for a while now that make the defenders defend.  The thing about the Craft play is that he wasn't even in the play until it was basically over.  He slid across the lane, the ball handler had already beaten his defender and started his upward movement and never saw Craft.  I agree, I think the rule is to get rid of that undercutting slide.

  6. Finally doing something. Gotta think opening up the floor and allowing guards more freedom of movement will only help the Miles motion offense. College basketball needs this real bad.

The block/charge call was also a big deal this last postseason. I don't understand the difference between the current rule and the proposed one the article describes. There's not much difference between starting an upward motion and lifting off the floor. I would like for them to get rid of all "taken" charges where a defender just runs to a spot to get ready to flop backward. Force the defense to actually play defense. Get rid of the flopping backward charges and only call a charge when an offensive player creates/initiates contact by lowering a shoulder or extending an arm.

Well, for instance the charge call in the Ohio St. vs. Iowa St. game would have been a charge.  Take away the controversy about whether the heels were in the circle or not, he slid under the ball carrier after he had started his upward motion.  That call happens quite a bit.

Video of the call comes in about 20 minutes into the clip.

I guess my hope is they've tried too hard to give it to a player they don't really want.

If a transfer (1-yr grad or 2-3 yr undergrad) happens that will generally upgrade the talent on the roster in the coming season(s), then that's a positive development. Otherwise, a late add could wind up being more of a crap-shoot than a well-positioned move.

Of course, but I don't see them taking a player just to take a player, at least I hope I don't see that happen.

People, groups, companies, etc... rebrand successfully all the time.  Heck, HHC's done it twice!  Personally, i'd love to see us move out of the dungeon.

It will occur organically, if it happens.

the organic movement is big these days.
