  1. From what I remember, "one" of the reasons he went to Louisville was to get away from Omaha and his parents. Not that his parents were bad, he said in an interview, he just needed separation from them. Would 50 miles be enough? If he decides to move on, hopefully it would be. He said that. And 50 miles was plenty for me. Could get home easily when I needed/wanted to and was far enough to have my own life. Each person handles that their own way, but when situations change, so do viewpoints, often times.
  2. Couple things. Teams need role players. But why are we assuming he can't be more than that? Just from what I've seen out of him. He looks like a 6'9 PF who will be a good defender but most of his offense will be from cleaning up on boards. We could use a guy like that.

  4. Not necessarilly. They don't do home and homes.
  5. Absolutely, this is Nebraska, they'll pay their respects when those opportunities are called for. Oh, I agree that the Nebraska fans will do that. I was just curious who would be another official that they would recognized the way they did Hightower if the opportunity would arise. Higgins, when the time comes in 20 years. I bet they would have for Welmer, too had he not retired due to injury.
  6. Is there any bad blood between the two on the basketball side of things?
  7. Sorry to further digress by responding. I think you get four years for transition, the NCAA has guidelines for making sure things progress, presumably because they don't want Joe's University throwing up a "Now NCAA Division I" sign out in front of their admin building. I'm pretty sure UNO has one more year in purgatory and is eligible in 1915-16. btw, they looked pretty tough against Minnesota (tied at half), they're one big man away from being a pretty darn good team. Sounds like a common theme for all D1 teams in this state...

  9. - Pretty frustrating start to this one. The Citadel was clearly the aggressor and NU gave them every reason to believe the first 15 minutes or so. - That said, after NU went on that run to end the half, hey controlled the action for basically the rest of the way. - Petteway doesn't seem to me to be forcing the issue as much. I like how he's fitting into the flow right now and I like that every time on the break he's looking to take it to the rim. We haven't had a guy do what he can do in transition in a long time. - Webster's in his own head right now. Exhibit A: The kickout with a wide open layup (or maybe dunk...) available to him. I'm betting this is the first time in his life he's ever struggled or not been the best player on the court or team. He'll get it figured out, but he's fighting it right now. - Ray didn't score much tonight, but I thought he did pretty well in a variety of other areas tonight. Looked to take the ball of the dribble more and finished with, I think, 3 assists. - Shields got overshadowed by Petteway, but his play in the first half of the second half might have been the difference in the game. - Solid night from Smith that could have been a huge night if not for a few turnovers and missed opportunities at the rim. Double double from the big man. - Big crowd tonight, which I was pleasantly surprised by, but not much energy (except when the guy hit the half court shot and at halftime). - Not Pitchford's best night. It happens. - Huskers had 9 turnovers at half time and 13 for the game. Just not much was good in the first half. Played, I think, pretty well in the second. - Liked that they brought back the press in the second half. - They did a better job of attacking the rim tonight, as evidenced by shooting 52% from the floor despite going 5-17 from 3 and the 34 free throw attempts, but they've got to do better 65%. Honestly, I was shocked they shot that high a percentage because they were hovering between 50% and 55% most of the night. They hit them down the stretch, which, is good, sometimes it's when you get them as much as anything. - Also, we've said it before, but rebounding...oof... That's all for now. Merry Christmas, everyone!
  10. It's going to be a bigger issue on the defensive end for Fuller. In an ideal world, as I understand it, Miles wants four guys, at least, on the court that can play on the perimeter. If Fuller's the shooter we all think he is, if he can learn to play the post, too, look out.
  11. It's a bit of a chicken and egg deal. While there's been a lot of buzz about the arena and this team, it's still a mediocre team that hasn't done much. It still comes down to winning. Beat Michigan and Ohio State those first two games and the energy in the building will ratched up the rest of the way. But you can't force college kids to be interested in your product. You have to give them something to be interested in. Otherwise, they'll move onto the next thing and not give it a second thought. Call 'em out all you want, but in the end, the product on the floor will determine the support given to it.
  12. Well, yes and no. They did build a 28 point lead and every time ASU tried to make a run, they'd get five or six quick points to squelch any comeback. ASU never really threatened. It was similar to what Creighton did on Sunday.
  13. Had other obligations this evening which prevented me from attending this one. Wierd watching a home game on TV. Here are my real time thoughts. - Fast start was nice. Hot shooting from Pitchford and Gallegos. Nice 15-2 run to start. - Played with great energy and focus, clear they wanted to put the Creighton game behind them as quickly as possible. - Still liking the 3 a little too much early. I'm guessing Miles mentioned that during the first media time out because the started attacking more after that. - Nice to see Hawkins get on the board. - The block by Biggs was sweet. - Arkansas St. was ice cold. NU defense was pretty good, active, but they really had a tough day shooting. - When Biggs can get into the lane, he's so difficult to defend. - Man, we had some young lineups on the floor today. - Nice to see Rivers get back in there. Not sure he played that great, though. - Van Slyke had a nice game. https://twitter.com/CoachMiles/status/411980337493721088 - Huskers didn't do this. Miles called the time out and chewed them out (I assume) and they got things fixed. - Good to see Shields get back into rhythm, basically since halftime of last Sunday. - NU is going to struggle in the post, we are expecting this, but they've got enough everywhere else, they should be able to stay in a bunch of games. I'm a little concerned they have to be reminded to play well and what the game plan is seemingly every half, but when they're attacking they're a very good basketball team. - This was one of the better transition games I've seen NU play in a while. - Couple of really nifty assists from Webster. When he gets comfortable scoring at this level, look out. - Biggs makes some iffy decisions on his drives sometimes. Dribbled right into a triple team at least twice. - There must have been something building, because I didn't see enough for a technical on Petteway. - Webster still playing a little fast at times. - Huskers couldn't bury ASU, not dissimilar from what happened in Omaha on Sunday. This post has been promoted to an article

  16. Biggest Hawkeye booster chapter is in Council Bluffs. It's probably a good move for them.
  17. If he's including Rivers in the post rotation, your other post would be Shields.
  18. I guess. But they're supposed to play hard to the end. I don't get excited to see them do that all the way to the final buzzer of a blowout. Sorry. But I was at the game, and Creighton was clearly not playing with the same intensity at the end of the game that they had at the start. I understand it was their first game and they're learning how to play at this level and with each other, but to not come out with any fight in the first 15 minutes of the game, I'm sorry, I just don't see much excuse for that.
  19. Nebraska Starters: Fr, So, So, So, Sr Creighton Starters: Sr, Sr, Sr, Sr, Jr First road game Give them a chance to learn from this. I think they did… see my original post I read the original post. I'm just saying I disagree. I don't find much consolation in out playing a team after they jump out to a 30 point lead. I'm sure they will learn from it, but it still doesn't excuse the mess they put in the floor yesterday.
