  1. Talking about who has played together and who hasn't. Not class year. Even so, five of those guys were in the program already and contributors at 10 minutes a game or more. They're not really that close to us in terms of experience. I realize they've got a new coach and are learning a new system, but they've got much more experience both in terms of games played and playing together than we do. Hollins 1021 min - Gallegos 1237 min Hollins 1013 min - Shields 804 min Eliason 452 min - Rivers 829 min Ahanmisi 357 min - Parker 681 min Osenieks 284 min - Peltz 213 min Walker 198 min 3325 minutes 3083 minutes. FWIW. Peltz. lol. You just listed almost all of Minnesota's rotation. You're missing about half of Nebraska's. Minnesota's core group is vastly more experienced than Nebraska's. The Hollins kids have more experience playing together. The rest of their players are not vastly more experienced than what we returned when it comes to playing together. Two of the players listed primarily played mop up minutes last year as well. JMO. Laugh if you want. But they had some. Six guys had experience on that team last year and/or the year before. We had three guys in our rotation that had played together depending on who gets playing time from game to game. That's a considerable difference.

  3. You can parse the semantics however you'd like, but that's the start of the journey to writing the kid off.

  5. You don't think he has the potential to be All-B1G in a couple years?
  6. Which is part of the learning process...
  7. Uh-oh...pet peeve alert... Don't write off the freshman half way through his freshman season... Yeah, really. Webster is the best freshman PG we've seen around here in a LOOOOONG time. .Webster will be just fine, sorry he isnt wiggins, or ennis, or parker and is just dropping 20 every night (even though they are not even doing that) im willing to bet Lue had his struggles, good luck find a juco guard who is 6'4 204 and has better potential than Tai that will come to NU. Lue averaged 8.5 PPG, 3 RPG, 4.1 APG, shot 68.8% from the line. His shooting percentages on FG and 3's stayed fairly constant through his career, but his FT% jumped big time from his FR to SO years. So far Tai's averaging 5.7/2.2/2.3, shooting 60% from the line. He's also playing about 3 minutes less per game than Lue did. So many variables to Tai's situation. Coming from overseas, being away from home for the first time, not family. I think sometimes we forget the human element to these kids and expect them to be robots that are programmed exactly how we think they should be. He's talented and he will get better! Anyone who has ever played Division 1 athletics will understand the growth that takes place. Oh, no doubt and it's not necessarilly a parallel progression with Lue either. I think it's too early to even hint at a verdict on the kid.
  8. I get what you're saying, but this is year two. We had everybody by Webster and Smith in the program last year. It was a foundation laying season. Now they're learning how to translate that onto the court. Now we're seeing the framing go up.

  11. I don't see a selfish team. I see a team that's still learning how to play together. Selfish is a team that is trying to do what's best for them. I don't see players doing that. I see players that do actually want to win and do as much as they can to help in that effort.
  12. If Biggs is the home run hitter he's been described as, tonight he struck out looking with the bases loaded. He looked devastated at the end of the game, understandably.
  13. I had a prior committment tonight that kept me from watching it live. I fired up the DVR at about 8:30. I know we had the lead at the time, but it was precarious...and I just saw on twitter what happened...I may or may not post more thoughts...fire away... - First five minutes of the game might have been some of the stupidest basketball I've seen in a long time. Rushed, deep, just not smart, both teams. - Liked Smith had a nice, strong move when he got in the game. - For as bad as NU was offensively, PSU was worse...goodness this is some terrible basketball. - Even with the concerted effort to stop Frazier and Newbill, they're going to get theirs. - Pitchford's not your normal big man, we know that, but I like that he's not afraid to throw it down when he gets a chance. - So, Penn St. goes 9 minutes and NU can only manage a 7 point lead...awesome... - Webster was basically nonexistent - I just, I don't know...this was just an uninspired effort. I was afraid of this. This is what it always is with this program... - That runner by Frazier after the 6-0 run should have been the first clue. - 43-37: Gallegos missed a 3, Frazier hits a runner to cut it to 4. Huge swing in the game. - Two terribly missed threes for PSU an offensive rebound and lay in to tie it up...ugh... - And then they went up 4 with 2:19 left and still gave it up? Good lord... - The shot clock violation...Petteway had no idea...GAWD - Smith MUST get that board... - Biggs, man... - What the hell was Pitchford thinking with that shot? - So, they went from up four to down five in a minute and a half? - If NU shows up with the focus and resolve they did on Monday, they win this one going away. They didn't so they didn't. - I think I'm gonna go throw up now.
  14. Well, there's one guy who's not scared of that five point spread.
  15. I would argue that only the Creighton and first OSU game weren't contests. In the Iowa game, we were only down 7 at the half and with about a minute and a half I think it was we were only down 5. If that poked ball would have gone our way, who knows how that game would have turned out. Maybe, but we got worked over most of that second half. Don't get down 20 and then there might be a better opportunity to win that game. it was definitely too little too late, and maybe to a casual basketball fan we didn't really get back in it, but I think that Iowa game really helped our guys grow up and show some resiliency. It very well may have, I think that's a separate conversation, though.

  17. Yeah, sure there is, but we're not to that bridge yet. When (if) we get there, feel free to cross it. Also, I was at that Creighton game. We did not remotely keep that a contest. We played well enough in the second half to make it respectable and frankly, I'd make the same argument for Iowa. I like this team. I think they've got a lot of grit and character to keep fighting in those games, but we weren't in them, at least not the Creighton one.
  18. It's not that it can't be discussed. It's that every time this team gets a "big" win, everyone gets so excited only to be let down when things come crashing back down to earth. For me, it's just a bit of a "here we go again" thing. If they go on a streak, that might change, but that's the issue for me.
  19. After reading this board the last couple of days i figured we had a really good shot to beat PSU. I was somewhat surprised to see them favored by 5 last night. Just because we can win doesn't mean we will. Coin flips don't always go your way. After doing some research it seems one of the reasons that our RPI is so high is because we have lost to so many good teams. Don't disagree. I really think it's just as likely that we win as it is that we lose.
  20. I don't really care what the line is. I think Nebraska has a touch more talent and is playing decently well right now. I think this is the most coin-flippy game we've had all year. I don't think it's more likely that we lose.
  21. Fair enough. I guess I don't see much distinction between warranted and legitimate, but that might just be semantics.
  22. Win tonight and we'll start having legitimate NIT bubble conversations. Win tonight and we'll start having legitimate NIT bubble three game winning streak conversations.
