I spoke with Trevor's dad last week.  Asked him how Trevor likes "the new guy" and he shrugged and said "not bad."

I bet that answer would be a bit more positive if Trevor were to keep his schollie for another year.

OK, bringing up Standhardinger brings up another topic.  I want people to commit right now:  Should Tim Miles NOT recruit this kid because he should know that he's not a fit?  Just like all the people who said Doc shouldn't have recruited a talented Euro 4 because Doc should have known Dinger wouldn't be a fit?

I don't want people bitching 2-3 years from now and saying we should have known not to recruit him.  Say it now.  Should we be recruiting this kid or not?

    I say yes.

Good points, hooper. Nebraska has about a 3-year window to capitalize on the glam and glitter of the new facilities and momentum of our new coach. We've put a LOT of our trust in Miles, and he seems to be making progress. I would argue that the jury is still out on development, as well.

But, in reality, if we don't progress over the next 3 years to a point where recruits believe we can be a contender and make NCAA tournaments on a regular basis, we likely missed our window. Not saying it would impossible to progress after that, just that this little window where we have established momentum from new facilities and a new coach is a prime opportunity to make the proverbial jump a lot faster than a place like Nebraska normally could.

Apparently, Grant Gibbs (whoever he is) is petitioning for another year of eligibility.

Maybe 49r could find us a gif of panties in a wad.  He did pretty well on his last effort.

Yup.  If we want to get panties in a wad all we need are a few more Creighton threads in this forum and not in the College Basketball forum.

I imagine it wasn't an easy decision on his part.

And the decision he made very well might bite him in the tail.  He'll be playing against better opponents this coming year...if he doesn't prove up to the task, he'll cost himself some dough.

I may need to do some more research on this subject...

"Now, certainly, the Army wants people to serve and doesn't want to turn away the people who haven't been deployed overseas.  But if you've been through a war, you get a combat patch.

Those of us who've been around for awhile?  Who stuck around even when this team could barely reach double figures in wins?  Who suffered through all the recruiting mishaps and blown leads and roster turnover and coaching turnover?  Yeah, I kinda feel like we've been through a war."

So, you didn't compare yourself with veterans of wars?

One and done. Surprisingly, teams made up of freshmen no matter how gifted are not as adept at putting the ball in the hole as teams of talented seniors used to be. How may of Oklahoma's players would have been there the years they were averaging over 100 points a game. Tisdale, Grant, Grace, King, Blaylock, etc. (probably misspelled half of them).  College coaches used to have time to coach them up. Then the NCAA took away a ton of practice time and allowed freshmen to leave after that year and we are surprised that teams don't score as much? It's not rocket science. Clocks don't teach fundamentals and some NBA coaches were the best at it (Hubie Brown) and some because of the 82 game schedule don't spend much time on individual workouts at all during the season so NBA play has suffered because of the one and done as well.

Benard Thomas said he'd break the single-season sack record...and I think ended up with one sack that year.

I'd take Broderick Thomas and his mouth over Benard Thomas any day.

Officiating, yes.  And skill development -- what Miles was talking about with AAU kids playing too many games and not developing skills enough.  I think it's probably multi-factorial why we have lower scoring games than we used to, but the shot clock isn't among the problems.   Plenty of other things to address first.

There's no way the shot clock is the cause of the problem.  We used to score more points when there was a 45-second clock.  If cutting the shot clock leads to higher scoring, shouldn't scoring be up already?

Focus on officiating and the problem will be solved.
