Part of that no one else stepping up had to do with TP himself.

BDSC was a pretty good atmosphere for a while, before Bill Byrne ruined it. Re-did the seating, moved the students, tied seats down low to donations, resulted in a half empty B section, home court advantage disappeared, fired Danny Nee thinking he could get Bill Self, and when Self said "yeaahhhh...think I will pass" got stuck with hiring Collier. Then at the Collier hiring press conference he starts talking about the women's rifle team. Bill Byrne ruined the whole program.

No exhibit A of my eyes being completely opened up about our fan base. Been ignoring it for over 15yrs but the events of the last few years have shown me the truth.

I use that number because it represents butts in the seats vs actual number of seats available. Absolute attendance doesn't account for the difference in the size of the arenas. Throwing in other values as constants would require a higher level of analytics using tools like SPSS, R, etc. If there was a great disparity in the size of the arenas between the 4 schools then the absolute attendance wouldn't mean as much. That is why I made note of CU only playing 12 of the 25yrs at the Qwest when discussing my results.

Let me be clear Husker fans are more loyal than most, as pointed out by 49r when talking about Baylor and Mizzou, but we are not as great as we think we are. In football we like to brag about how loyal we are to the football team and that we sell out all of our home games which we do, but is that a product of our success? A few more 6-7 to 7-6 seasons might tell a different tale. I can say for certain that our current sell out streak at Memorial stadium is not a reflection of reality. Lots of seats bought up by large donor groups and companies to keep it propped up. Several games this past season had huge sections of empty seats. The next couple of seasons will be interesting.

Comparing ourselves to Baylor, a private Baptist school
How do we compare with our biggest competitor in the state.   Perhaps there is more at play here than the "awesomeness" of Husker fans.

How do we compare with other D1 schools, in large population cities, where there are no other P5 schools or professional sports teams? Creighton joined the Big East in 2013.

I went back starting with the year 2000 and took a look at the data and here is what I found.
The combined population of Ames and Iowa City is 100K+ less than Lincoln, with Omaha being the largest. All 3 arenas are relatively the same size now, with CU being the largest, although they moved into the Qwest/Link from the Civic in 2003. While Nebraska had 3 different coaches during that time period so did Iowa; and Iowa State had 4 different coaches, while CU had 2. Regular season attendance average had Nebraska in last place by almost 25%. CU had the largest attendance average including the Civic attendance. Regular season record saw Nebraska 1 game above 50%, with Iowa at 55% and ISU at 58%. CU has a nearly won 70% of their games including their time in the Mo Valley. What does all this have to do with Nebraska fans? Well it shows that there is nothing special about our fan base when compared to our most comparable competitors.

So what you are saying is that they are loyal when we are winning. I agree.

I don't think that it was losing to Creighton or losing to the Word, I don't think they ever recovered from blowing the 18 point lead against Ohio State.

Michael Jacobson has been listed at 6'8" on his team's roster since his sophomore year of high school. That, in 99% of all cases, strongly suggests that he is done growing.

Yeah, yeah, we played terrible, didn't deserve to win, yadda yadda yadda. But that foul call on White was absolute bull shit. And it decided the game by giving them a new shot clock.

Wouldn't have mattered. Don't kid yourself into believing that this game was on the up and up. There was no way the officials would have let Nebraska actually win. They were going to do just enough to give this outcome.

Lamont Simpson is blind as a f**king bat. How does he get these jobs? Big Ten basketball is crooked.

When you have a roster full of goons like OSU, does it help you more when the refs swallow their whistles?
If this is Big Ten basketball, give me something else. At least Wenzel isn't the color guy, that's the only thing that could make this product worse.

The key to jobbing one team is to make some bad calls the other way too, maybe on a three to one basis. Then when the desired team has a comfortable lead, you start calling it straight up both ways. That way, the settled opinion becomes that the officiating was bad, but fair, when in reality it pretty much dictated the outcome. Not that, for example, Nebraska was going to win an evenly called game tonight, but there were no chances taken.

If you go with Tai at the three for extended minutes, you have some problems. 1) It would necessitate getting some quality time out of Bakari - which he might be able to do, but who knows. 2) The Benny - Koenig matchup is a tough one, Benny had a hard time against him last year.  What Wisconsin does on offense pretty much neutralizes Benny's strengths defensively, and Koenig can post him up, back him down, or just shoot over him.  3)  Tai vs. Hayes does not look like a good matchup, they would isolate Hayes in the post quite a bit.

If you go with Jacobson or Morrow at the four, the problems you have are maybe losing a bit of offense (but if Fuller is the alternative and he's afraid to shoot you aren't losing much), and that you might have to get meaningful minutes from Hammond.  Jake has been around for a season and a half of Big Ten play and has a total of four points in conference play - with Shields out I don't know that you can have a non-threat at the five.

So, maybe you start Fuller (since he's from Wisconsin maybe it will get him going), tell him not to be afraid to shoot it, give him the first five minutes unless you start to get behind, and then go with McVeigh. Give Fuller and McVeigh some of the extra minutes, maybe go with Tai at the three for five minutes or so, and go with Morrow at the four for five to ten.

If AW III gets in foul trouble...I don't think there's any answers if that happens.

And as long as the season went well, TP would have been a positive asset. If things started to drift a bit for him, I could see him pulling the boat down with him. Seemed like a good kid, could hit some tough shots, I'm sure Miles would have great things to say about him, but for me he's not the type you want to build a program with. If you have a strong core both talent and character-wise then maybe he's a kid you take a chance on. That way if he doesn't work out you show him the door. Or if you are a building program hoping to maybe get lucky on a player, you take a risk on him. That's how he ended up here. I don't want to be a character assassin on a kid but I don't hold him in near as high regard as a player as many on this board. He was great for the program his first year and I thoroughly enjoyed the end of the season run. My hope is that Nebraska gets to the point where we are strong enough that we can take a flyer on that type of player but if he doesn't work out no one notices that he's not there the next year.
