  1. Postgame notes and quotes from UNL Nebraska Postgame Notes: *-James Palmer Jr. finished with a game-high 29 points, the second-highest total of his career and ninth career 20-point game. He has now been in double figures in 17 straight games dating back to last season *-Palmer’s 29 points were the most by an individual player at Pinnacle Bank Arena since Glynn Watson Jr. scored 29 points against Minnesota on Dec. 5 of last season. *-Isaac Copeland Jr. posted his fifth career double-double and fourth as a Husker with 18 points and 10 rebounds. *-Glynn Watson Jr. moved past Cary Cochran (1,081 points) for 27th on Nebraska’s career scoring chart. Watson, who also dished out eight assists, now has 1,089 career points. *-Husker seniors James Palmer Jr. (29 points), Isaac Copeland (18 points) and Glynn Watson Jr. (14 points) combined for 61 of Nebraska’s 80 points. *-Nebraska won for the 14th straight time at Pinnacle Bank Arena. The 23-point win was the Huskers’ ninth double-digit victory during their 14-game home winning streak and fourth straight. The 14-game home win streak is NU’s longest since opening the 2010-11 season with 14 straight home wins. *-Nebraska has scored 80 or more points in each of the first three games, the first time the Huskers have done that since the 1992-93 season. *-Tim Miles won his 100th game at Nebraska, becoming the fifth Husker coach to reach the milestone. *-With the win, Nebraska snapped a seven-game losing streak to Big East teams. The win was also NU’s first in the Gavitt Tipoff Games after dropping previous games to Villanova (2015) and St. John’s (2017). *-Nebraska held Seton Hall to 2-of-16 shooting from 3-point range. Opponents are now 6-of-48 (12.5 percent) from beyond the arc this season, and the Huskers have held each of their first three opponents under 18 percent. *-The Huskers held Seton Hall to 35.6 percent shooting, marking the 29th consecutive game Nebraska has held its opponent to 50 percent shooting or less. Seton Hall Head Coach Kevin Willard On Nebraska’s defense “(Nebraska) They’re a veteran, talented, tested team. They’re very good defensively. Our ball movement wasn’t great tonight, but I think that has a lot to do with them. You got to give them a lot of credit.” On what his young team can learn from playing a veteran team “I think you can learn a ton. We’ll get home, break down the tape and kind of see things that we did well. I like the way we battled, up until the 35 minute mark. I think there’s a lot of things we did well and I think there’s a lot of things we didn’t do well and we'll improve on them.” On what he liked from his team tonight “I loved their effort and I liked their attitude. I felt their attitude all the way through. Even when we got down 13 late, they were talking about how there was still a lot of time left and to keep their heads up. I was happy with their effort. Nebraska is a tough place to play and they're a good team.” Nebraska Head Coach Tim Miles Opening Statement “I'd just like to start and just say I think our students were ridiculously good tonight. They were so loud and provided so much energy and it made the game so fun. Thank you to our fans and our crowd. That was really cool to be a part of.” On his team’s performance “I thought they were good all night, but certainly after that 36-15 run, I thought there was this long pause and sometimes you worry. They’re at the monitor trying to figure things out, but I thought our kids really came back and played rock solid. James (Palmer Jr.) had a big shot that helped. That second half we knew that against Coach Willard, it’s the (Rick) Pitino kind of system that it will take awhile for us to figure out what they’re doing and when they’re man and when they’re zone. I’ve said in the pregame stuff with radio and TV that I thought we played better as the game went on. And we did. What was happening was you saw Palmer hit big shots and make big plays. (Isaac) Copeland made big shots. I think that Glynn (Watson Jr.) made a big three. Thomas (Allen Jr.) made a big three. Nana (Akenten) made a great pull-up. They were really important plays, all of them. Then you can see Isaiah Roby had the best 90 seconds of the night. That’s about all he had. People could see why we want him in there.” On the team's hard work and ability to adjust “There’s no doubt. What I feel comfortable with is how they show up every day to work. There’s not really a change in demeanor. They know what needs to be done. When you’re communicating with those top guys, we have smart bigs, which changes everything. Now you can scheme it up in the second half. We took Isaac Copeland and put him right in the middle of the lane to change their whole screen-and-roll game. Then we just switched out on the whole thing and it stopped all that screen-and-roll stuff. Most guys might not make that play. We say Cope 'go do it,' this is how we’re going to switch it out with Glynn or with one of the other guys. They handled it really well. They didn’t even give up an open look. I thought that was really important.” Nebraska Player Quotes Isaac Copeland Jr. On that run after Isaiah Roby picked up his fourth foul “That was a real test for us. We didn’t have the experience of playing through that in the first two games, so I think we really stayed together and made a push after that. That helps too (fans getting hyped). PBA has some good fans, and we appreciate them.” On [Huskers freshman center] Brady Heiman playing extensive minutes “Brady was great. I thought we had a taste of it in the first two games against other opponents, but I think he stepped up tonight. It was his night, and he helped us out a lot.” Glynn Watson Jr. On playing against scoring guards such as Myles Powell “He’s a great scorer. He moves a lot without the ball, and you always have to move with him. It was just a good test for me to move my feet and try to stay out of foul trouble. I did get into a little foul trouble (early), but I thought the guys stepped up to guard him, like James (Palmer Jr.) and Amir (Harris), and stuff like that too.” James Palmer Jr. On if tonight’s win makes them think less about preseason rankings “I don’t think we really worry about the preseason rankings or anything like that. We just focus on ourselves. Tonight, we just handled business.”
  2. Ed played 4 minutes for Marquette. Bad feet or was transferring to a school with 5 post players a bad idea?
  3. A combination of children and a poor choice in lane changes meant I wasn't in my seat until the 17:00 minute mark. How did we do?
  4. Felt like that whole clown show ignited the crowd and the team. We outscored them by 19 over the last 13 minutes. Taurean Thompson absolutely imploded tonight....part of the reason we were able to live with Roby in phantom foul trouble. Tanner and Brady had to step up tonight and they were up to it. It seemed like after Palmer had that FT bounce around to the point that Nana was running up the court that he settled in and started playing like JPJ. Had as many makes at the Pirates at the FT line. Copeland was the statistical MVP of the game. Double-double and his shot was wet. He's very good at defending without fouling. Watson is locked in. This is going to be a special year. It turns out that "shorten the rotation" is code for Thor isn't going to play
  5. Just wait until he's strong enough to lift his arms up. He's going to be good for us for quite a few years
  6. Anyone notice we were relegated to the BTN
  7. They don't tweet these out until the fax comes in
  8. It's a SOS hack because it's not counted anywhere except for the overall record. The question here is whether or not it was counted by the person putting together the study for the Huskers
  9. Not sure as it does technically count as a win.
  10. Kell and Sutt talk about Wednesday's test against Seton Hall.
  11. It depends on who we beat and the B1G bouncing back but yeah this is conceivable though maybe tack on 1 or 2 more wins for that high of a seed. Look at teams like Florida who went 20-11 (11-7 in conference) and earned a 6 seed or TCU who went 21-10 (9-9 in conf) for a 6 seed. The things these team have in common is that they both played Top 30 KenPom schedules (I assume this translates to RPI) 8 noncon wins (easier ones) 1.Miss Valley St 2.SELA 3.SW Min St. 4.W. Illinois 5.Cal St Fulerton 6. Missouri St (neutral) Choose two more from Seton Hall - H Creighton - H Texas Tech/USC (N) Okie St (N) Clemson (R) Look at our conference schedule and in this brand new year and everyone is good. Illinois and Rutgers are projected to be the worst teams and we're playing both of them on the road. It's not too far fetched to think we will have a top 15-30 SOS. Too bad Miles gets fired after earning that 5 seed, winning a tourney game but not hitting 22 wins. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
  12. #25 Nebraska Cornhuskers (2-0) vs Seton Hall Pirates (1-0) Date: Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2018 Time: 6:30 p.m. Arena: Pinnacle Bank Arena Broadcast: BTN Courtesy of twitter Seton Hall Head Coach: Kevin Willard Location: South Orange, NJ Conference: Big East Nickname: Pirates Mascot: The Pirate Last time out: Beat Wagner Shirt not to wear: Blue, puffy Opening Line: Nebraska by 9.5 Undefeated in football since: 1982 Players to watch: Myles Powell The confident 6'2" Junior guard is the star of this squad and is a threat to score from anywhere on the court. Last year Powell was had 3 senior teammates to share the load so what happens when he's the focal point of the defense? While others will take 3s Powell is the only one who has been proven to be a major threat. KenPom Lineup PG SG SF PF C Pct 1 0 Quincy McKnight 6-4 185 Jr 13 Myles Powell 6-2 195 Jr 22 Myles Cale 6-6 210 So 1 Michael Nzei 6-8 205 Sr 23 Sandro Mamukelashvili 6-10 230 So 14.8 The amount that this lineup plays together stat is worthless at this point but this gives you an idea about the size of the lineups that Seton Hall will roll out. McKnight is a transfer from Sacred Heart where he was a high volume (not efficient) scorer. He'll split time at the point with freshman 4 star Anthony Nelson. Soph Myles Cale started a handful of games for the Pirates last year and seems like the most likely candidate to add more outside shooting and/or scoring to the team. The two starting bigs have been efficient role players thus far and could cause problems for the Huskers on the boards. Not pictured here is 6'11" Syracuse transfer Taurean Thompson who coming off the bench for the moment. None of the post players shoot 3s well and Thompson is especially foul prone. ATM Thomas Allen is your backup PG and you could probably see anyone in the starting 5 bringing the ball up the court. 2. The rotation is going to be tightened for the Seton Hall game. 3. Miles always has the swankiest Husker gear Let's talk about #2 for a bit. For at least this game where we don't play again until Monday expect Miles to play all of the starters 30+ minutes unless there are foul issues. I'd expect Tanner to be in the rotation and then do you need Harris defense or Nana's offense? Who practiced well this week? The Skinny: This is a Seton Hall team with a lot of new pieces after graduating one of their best recruiting classes in recent history. Kevin Willard is a noted "gritty' and defensive minded coach so you'll see his new squad try to dominate the boards, make the Huskers work in the half court, and try to run in transition as much as possible for easy baskets. In some regards the Pirates' lack of continuity helps them as the Huskers excel at scouting and can struggle against the unknown. Seton Hall has had 8 days to prepare plus last season's worth of game tape if you're looking for something else to worry about. However, you cannot simulate the crowd that should be present tonight as Seton Hall has been playing in front of the amount of people the Huskers bring out to a practice. It's not hard to imagine the noise rattling the Pirates at times. What does a 3pt defending team like Nebraska run against a limited 3pt shooting team who will probably look to run inside tonight? Look for a decent amount of 1-3-1 and an experienced Nebraska team to switch defenses at will. The Huskers should generate easy points as well from the shaky PG timeshare that the Hall rolls out. On offense have you noticed that the Huskers have come out firing 3s the first couple of games? A lot of defenses will give this to you to start the game and in addition to it being an efficient way to score it serves the purpose of loosening up the defense even if we're not making them. Is this the game where we start hitting them? The Huskers are more talented, more experienced and have the sort of killer instinct you haven't seen since the Terran Petteway era. Look for the Huskers to make a statement tonight. Prediction: Nebraska 82 - Seton Hall 68 View full article

  14. I don't think it was reported anywhere but Seton Hall played an exhibition where they just did ok and let D-II New Haven make it closer at the end. https://shupirates.com/news/2018/11/9/mens-basketball-cales-20-points-leads-pirates-past-new-haven.aspx?path=mbball The big takeaway for me here is Myles Cale taking six 3s (made 4) The 4 star sophomore is probably the biggest scoring threat besides Myles Powell
  15. That made me think of this moment from Dazed and Confused
  16. Risky Roadz Podcast Caleb and Jake are back after watching the first two games of the season. They break down the first to husker wins and look forward to the huge match-up with Seton Hall at PBA on Wednesday! We also update how our first two Husker Hoops Central Challenge games went and make predictions on the third.
  17. How you finished is typically how you're remembered
  18. The injury occurred in early October and the recovery timeline is 6-8 months which puts him at April-June before he's good to go again. This is the same injury that Dez Bryant had and he's been given an 8 month recovery time frame. It's possible that Davis won't be physically 100% of what he was his last healthy year in high school.
  19. Gonna make this a catch-all for the year. Two takeaways 1. ATM Thomas Allen is your backup PG and you could probably see anyone in the starting 5 bringing the ball up the court. 2. The rotation is going to be tightened for the Seton Hall game.
