This kid is not a reach. He had offers from Texas, Georgetown, Marquette, Colorado, Oregon, NC state, and many more. He's averaging a double double on one of the top JUCO teams in a little over 20 min a game. NU need some big guys that can help right away because there is going to be a lot of talent on the perimeter next year. Atewe would not be a significant contributor until he is a junior.

Kevin Thomas seems like a better option. 10 pts and 14 rebs in his last game, and his team is 24-1. He can only play for 2 years, but I do not see Atewe playing much in his first 2 years anyways. Thomas had better offers in high school and would give NU a better chance at making the ncaa tourney the next 2 years.

I think it's 50/50 whether Sergej hangs around. 25% chance Parker leaves. 20% with Rivers. Probably about a 60% chance one player leaves.

Atewe: 30+ D1 offers. Sands: none that I know of. Atewe is being brought strictly as a defensive presence with the hope of developing some kind of offensive game. Atewe has the size to guard B1G centers. Kevin Thomas is the big man we want to help us out all around. He can do it all and is 6'9. If we don't get Atewe or Thomas, then NU will look for transfers at the end of the year. I can assure you the staff has looked at Sands, but I don't think NU will offer.
