If Nana figures out how to use the athletic blessings he has acquired and guard someone, he will definitely see the court, particularly because he can be an elite 3pt shooter on offense.  I've been hearing good things on this front.

I like Thor, but I'm not a believer in his athleticism yet.  Hopefully he's put some work in gaining some muscle.  He definitely has the savvy/IQ for D1.

It probably comes down to which one of these two won't be liability on defense.

Jay Wright is a believer in Universal Offensive Concepts...which means they have very few plays and his players read what the defense gives them and take advantage (imagine playing pickup ball with High IQ basketball players)...I do think that leads to players developing over time and learning and playing under those concepts is not something every first year player can accomplish.

I do think his system develops players much better than an offense that is run this play, run that play....as it teaches players to adapt to what is shown by the defense....You still need the DNA, but if I was in the NBA and comparing two similar players, i would lean towards a guy who has learned the concepts not plays.

Whatever Glynn brings to the table to the help the team, he has been excellent at taking care of the ball and is a remarkably good ball handler.  Those two things are easy to take for granted, but it's helped us tremendously.

    1.  Roby will be our poster child for the next tier of recruiting as he will likely log meaningful minutes in the NBA.  He'll end a, what, 20 year drought?

    2.  I picked Tai because he can answer questions about 4-year player development under TM.  Hopefully GWIII will finish with a great season--I will say his defense has definitely improved each season.

    3.  Terran provided the blueprint for unbelievable transfer success here.  This has been amazingly important.

#1 is a no-brainer in my opinion.  You gotta start with making the dance in year 2.  Terran Petteway was the single biggest factor in us making the dance.  Without him, we don't make the dance.  Period.  And, if we don't make the dance, we don't land transfers Andrew White, Anton Gill, Isaac Copeland, or James Palmer; nor do we land Glynn Watson, Isaiah Roby, etc.

Given how significant a factor I believe making the dance was in subsequent recruiting, I'd say the 2nd most important player in the Miles era was Shavon.  He started as a freshman and would have been a day-1 starter had he not injured his elbow, but his emergence as a sophomore was critical to that run to the dance, and he was just a solid kid and solid player all the way around.  If Shavon had been the player we all thought we were getting coming out of high school, Miles is probably coaching somewhere else right now. But Shavon turned out to be a 4-star caliber player in a marginal 3-star's body.  Shavon is definitely my #2.

James Palmer is 3rd.  The reason we were even in the hunt for a return trip to the NCAA tournament is because we had a guy like Palmer who could get us buckets when we needed them.  The reason we'll be in the hunt again this year is because opposing Ds will have to line up to stop him and it'll make other players on the team better.  He scores, he dishes assists, he's deceptively quick, and he's really long at the guard spot.  He's been ranked by whatshisname as one of the top 15 returning players in the nation.  That's not for nothin.  The fact that he returned for his senior year is HUGE for this program.

So, that's my top three and the whys and wherefores.

I don't agree that they folded last year.  They won 7 of their last 10.  Yes, they got curbstomped by Michigan in the BTT, but turns out that was a red-hot Michigan team.  Then they lost AT MissSt in the NIT.  Turns out MissSt was pretty good, too.

The year before that, they folded.  Lost 8 of their last 10, including a 5-game losing streak to wrap things up.  That team was very young and had a player or two who quit.  And I'm talking before they officially transferred.

We're going into this season with some seasoned veterans.  Not only is this one of our most talented teams, it's also one of our most experienced.

The 95-96 team should've been a dark horse national championship roster.  It started three NBA players in Lue, Strick, and Mikki.  Their underachievement makes me physically ill.

The 91 squad had Pike, King, and Farmer.  Three NBA players.  Farmer was a beast JUCO who actually played in the NBA for anyone who doesn't remember.

I think this roster is comparable to those two rosters in terms of overall talent.  Those teams had better offense and more top end talent.  I think this squad plays better defense and has a more developed identity and philosophy.  I also like the versatility (passing and shooting) of our bigs in today's game.

Win one game in the tourney.  But, really, continue to play hard and put a bunch of talented, high character athletes on the court.  Lay the foundation for the next decade of success with TM at the helm.

Crazy, and apparently the Lakers never offered.  Now based on all the one year contracts it looks like they'll clear about $80mil next year for Kawhi and one other killer without having to trade their young talent.  19-20 is also when GSW will likely break up as 4/5 of their stars will be FAs.  Bron may have that one chance to create a final dynasty.

Oh I agree in sentiment.. I'm just not sure anyone else wants Lonzo.  I would think he'd be gone by now if anyone did.  You could basically trade him straight up for any starting PG in the league and lose nothing, in my opinion.

Magic just landed Lebron, so I would consider the job Magic has done, to this point, as A++++++++++

It'll be interesting to see how they fill out the roster.  I think trading anyone this season would be quite dumb as Kawhi is coming to LA regardless.

My guess is this upcoming season's roster looks like this:

Tyreke Evans (in talks right now)/Lonzo Ball
    Caldwell-Pope/Josh Hart
    Ingram/Lance Stephenson
    Bron/Kuzma
    McGee/Wagner

^^^ This team can actually match up pretty well with GSW's death squad if you put Kuzma at the 4 and Bron at the 5.  I think they're working with more than most people think.  I think they should definitely let Randle go and pick up Evans with the loot.  Also, watch out for Chris Bosh... rumor has it he's got new blood clot meds.

Nicole Cousins?  I thought I heard Edwards was dating someone out there, speculation that the break up of the relationship was related to him leaving.  Coulda been local medias biggest power couple since Ken Siemeck and Deb Collins.  Or Ken Hambleton and Ryley Jane.  Or Colby Mach and an EIB fleshlight.

Those have to be earned. They aren’t random and they aren’t worthless. Sociology is a science. Not many people could handle the math or suffer the tedium needed to successfully complete a sociological study.  This field has offered great insight into the workings of society and explanations and possible solutions for many disfunctions. I think a great sociological study would be the connection between the susceptibility of people to believe lies and misinformation in this country and the debasing and  unappreciation of science and education  that exist here like no other  developed nation.

Yes, and if he's anything like Bryson, he's also going to be the highest character and hard working kid you can imagine.  It's absolutely criminal that they won't both be in a Husker uni.

Fullbacksympathy reacted to Swan88 in Bill Moos and Basketball: Ernie Kent, Miles, Roll over contract, and old ideas
Wow.  A poster’s 13th post is to trash Bill Moos?!  That’s a new approach.
But that post is incomplete—it leaves out some solid stuff about Kent.
For example, it leaves out this:

    “While at Oregon, Kent led the Ducks to seven postseason appearances, including five NCAA Tournament Appearances (2000, 2002, 2003, 2007, 2008) as well as a Pac-10 regular-season (2002) and  two conference tournament (2003, 2007) titles”;

    “Kent took two Oregon teams to the NCAA Elite Eight (2002 and 2007) and guided the Ducks to the NIT Final Four on two occasions (1999, 2004)”;

”Kent helped produce four NBA First Round Draft selections and became Oregon’s all-time wins leader”; and

“Under Kent’s direction, the Duck men’s basketball team ranked No. 1 amongst Pac-10 schools in the NCAA’s Academic Progress Rate several times throughout his head coaching career.”

Let’s stipulate that we don’t want Kent at Nebraska—for good reasons.  But while trashing basketball Moos, let’s at least acknowledge the full picture—part of which is pretty darn good.
