  1. I don't think the contract is as important as the track record...Let's say you have a coach going into his 7th year that has five year deal and is about a .500 coach vs a coach that has a 3 year deal with the same record ...I think any sane person sees they are essentially in the same situation as far as job security...kids see that too...
  2. Also, there is no guarantee, Johnson comes here if Miles is extended to 5 years...
  3. I am not saying that Hoiberg would pick Nebraska...but I do think he would consider it...esepcially if he intends to go the transfer route like he did at Iowa State... If you are at UCLA as an example, i don't think the transfer strategy would fly. At Nebraska, it might be a perfect fit for the way for what he did at Iowa State.
  4. From Hoiberg I am not prioritizing one over the other in respect to the NBA and college,” Hoiberg said.“The jobs are so different that you cannot compare them, so I plan on evaluating whatever opportunities may come independently.”
  5. When you consider faciltiies each had at their disposal...Doc's record is even more impressive than Miles.
  6. Why do people think that Fred Hoiberg wouldn't consider Nebraska. Half his family is from Nebraska and his grandfather once coached at Nebraska. I think he could take a job at Nebraska and get 6 years, if he takes a job like UCLA...he might only get 3 years to turn it around.
  7. I don't think Miles should be fired...but I could see him leaving similar to how Steve Alford left Iowa for New Mexico...He probably can stay but would he be better off re-starting his clock in a new situation.
  8. I thought that Michigan State's defense made our shots a just a little further out than usual...being aggressive on defense forced 22 footers into 23 footers...those little differences changes things. I also thought that State's help defense especially on Palmer drives was was unbelievably great....Palmer would blow by his primary defender and run right into a wall of defensive help.
  9. I will never understand why coaches don't instruct the inbounder to hand the ball to the defensive player guarding the ball in a situation like Creighton was in...up 3 less than 1 second left...The defender is inside the three point line and he cannot score three points from that position on the court...instead Creighton threw it deep and gave Marquette two chances...one if they intercept beyond three point line and heave it in and the second chance was if nobody touches the ball and they get to inbound it. I have had an inbounder hand the ball essentially to the defender on the ball when I was coaching sophomore basketball in the 1990s and I have never seen a team do that since...to me, it seems like the most logical thing to do...but I have never seen another coach do it. I actually line up all four players at half court, so the other 4 defenders have to be 47 feet away from hoop...if a defender guards the ball inside the three point line, i just have a guy hand him the ball and if he can score 3 points in less than a second from inside the 3 point line, god bless him, I'll play overtime...although most likely, he will be so shocked he won't do anything with the ball. If all five defenders are outside the three point line...i have my guard sprint to the inbounder and they should be able to get a clean catch with that much open court with all four offensive players at half court.
  10. If we implemented the shot clock, i believe it would lower scoring especially in the smaller divisions...Remember the shot clock is ultimately a six defender, while it might increase possesions, the possessions it affects will result in less than optimal shots... When they implemented the shot clock in the NCAA, scoring went down, when they lowered it from 45 to 35, scoring went down...when they lowered it from 35 to 30, scoring ticked up, but they also emphasized freedom of movement, so I would say that you can't truly attribute the most recent shot clock change to the increase in scoring.
  11. I was listening to the Iowa State game on XM radio on a random drive across the city and the announcers for Iowa State mentioned that Jacobsen at that point (a couple of games ago) had eclipsed his high in scoring at Nebraska in every game so far. I expect he will have a very good year and the best thing that probably happened to him is not so much the transfer but sitting out a year as the transfer to work on his game and his body.
