I'm trying to figure out why I'm watching. Normally, at this point in a lost season I'm watching out of loyalty to the seniors who gave years to this program...and I am watching for the youngsters who are getting solid development opportunities to face B1G opponents. But neither of those feel accurate. If you go all in on transfers and free agents, you have to win, but if you have no continuity and no success, who am I cheering for? Some kid who will be around (maybe) one season? If we aren't going to transfer in NBA Talent, then we need to coach up kids for four years and make a GD team rather than a collection of individuals.

I'm not pissed they lost to Illinois at home. I'm pissed that, if they'd played like a team and given the kind of effort all season they did in the first 30 minutes of this game, we'd maybe be 11-6 instead of 6-11.

    That's what pisses me off.

As usual, just my opinion but I respectfully disagree with it being a red herring argument. There are lots of kids taking advantage of NIL money and there are programs positioning it in different ways. Some kids can do so and still be team-driven, some can't. It is very individual in nature, but the program & leadership play an integral role in how it affects the team environment.

I don't have a problem with NIL & kids profiting as long as it's kept in the proper perspective and the team/program come first. Some programs may be making NIL way too important in the recruiting process and as a part of the program, thus leading kids down the path of ME>WE.

Hate to say it, but there is likely a LOT more truth in this statement than most realize or are comfortable saying out loud.

Tominaga bashing now?? He’s in his first year at this level.  He doesn’t have the athlete or size of McGowens, but has shown a high level of basketball IQ. He’s also heavily contributed to a couple of our wins so far this season. In an established role, he absolutely has a place on the team and in the rotation.

I hate to say this. I REALLY hate to say this, but ...

At 72-67 with 36 seconds to play, I was still thinking to myself, we're nowhere near out of the woods and there's a good chance we're going to find a way to lose.

    And, sure enough.

So, I guess on the one hand, I was smart enough to maintain low expectations so that I wasn't crushed by the emotional impact of the loss. On the other hand, it sucks that I've resorted to expecting the worst in every situation so that I don't build myself up for disappointment anymore.

One thing that pissed me off is that we couldn't inbound the ball on that 2nd-to-last possession in regulation and had to burn a timeout, WHICH we really could have used after Liddell hit that 2nd FT to tie the game.

At that point, we had 8 seconds left and, if we'd had a TO, we could have gotten the ball across half court, called time, and had Hoiberg (or someone -- Abdelmassih?) design an inbounds play from the sideline to get literally anyone open. I think the last play of regulation was Kobe Webster trying to drive and missing and then Walker missing the put-back? I just don't think that was the shot we probably would have wanted. But, maybe it's as good as anything they would have designed if they'd had 5 seconds from the sideline. Maybe it's too much to hope that they could have designed something for a sidelines out-of-bounds play with 5 seconds left that would have given them any better of a look.

Anderson was a baller.  One of my favorite Huskers of the last 20 years.  I’m not sure he’s even shoot well with this offense

No analysis needed. This is simply a really bad program, top to bottom. I am about 70% off the FH bandwagon. The coaches recruited these players without doing the requisite homework or brought them in spite of the flaws that are glaringly obvious to anyone paying attention. Either way, until there are serious consequences for the lack of team play, effort, etc. these are the results to be expected. Based on the available evidence to this point, it won’t change.

This has to be the most unlikeable Nebrasketball team I’ve ever watched.

May not be all that popular, but I liked Moos. He made 2 hires that for most, were the best possible hires he could make at the time (although I was the opposite of most - hesitant on Frost and all in on Hoiberg).

I don’t know details of day-to-day and to be honest, don’t really care. He was a hands off guy and I get it - if you are going to pay someone millions of dollars to do a job, there should be some accountability on those you hire to figure it out. He may not have been a great long term fit and I’m sure he made mistakes. But he won’t be the last one to do so.

For what it’s worth, I am all in on Trev - he won’t be perfect but I do believe he is the right guy to bring everything together. Will that manifest in wins? Who knows? But the coaches and players will be put in the best possible position to succeed.

Pretty good summary for me, @Norm Peterson.  I'll give a shit about this team once they prove they give a shit about themselves.  Until then, college hoops is pretty low down on the priority list in my life.  I'm pretty grateful for that too, TBH.

Not saying I'm running out of steam, but I'm reminded of a comment from a social worker I used to know who used to lose sleep worrying about things other people repeatedly kept doing to themselves, and finally resolved, "I'm not going to care more about their problems than they care about them themselves."

Well Norm - I’m there. I was out working in my shop and listening on my phone. It started buffering just after halftime. I didn’t care. It doesn’t matter to me at this point.

I appreciate your points and yes, I've watched every game to this point in the season. You see it a bit differently than I do and that's fine.

For the record, I'm blaming players and coaches. Just my opinion but I believe the pattern was set in the first few games of the season and it quickly embedded in the psyche of the shooters.

I do think Verge has gotten better in the past couple of games - this is not an attack on him specifically at this point. If this is the offense the coaching staff wants, it's not an offense I will invest time watching.

I have not jumped off the FH bandwagon just yet - but I am much closer to doing so than I was at the beginning of the season.

I've made my stance clear in other posts. I won't continue to watch teams where one or two players are going to do their very best to make sure the ball has air in it every chance they get - even if they stuff the stat sheet. Unless those players are exceptionally good, that approach leads to more losses than wins and that can't be argued. And, selfishly, it is not entertaining to watch for old, curmudgeonly traditionalists like me.

The risk with continually turning over the roster has always been getting the chemistry right. It is a critical factor and difficult in the best of times. To this point in the season, the chemistry is not close to what it needs to be on this team and the evidence would suggest it won't happen soon enough (if at all).

I hope I'm wrong on the last point, I truly do. I would love nothing more than to watch a good, quality basketball TEAM have success at Nebraska.

You have touched on something that I haven’t been able to crystallize in my mind just yet. I did not follow his ISU days closely and I didn’t watch the Bulls at all. Did his NBA experience fundamentally change the man? Not only make him robotic in how he deals with players but skew him so far toward the NBA hero ball mentality that he now actually coaches to it?
